6 WiTi (WIRELESS TRAILER INTERFACE) We proudly introduce to you our new caravan and trailer product WiTi (Wireless Trailer Interface and Anti-Theft device) and ask that if it would possible to please share this information with your club at your next meeting. WiTi (Wireless Trailer Interface) is a new Australian innovation that was launched in January 2018 and is re-inventing the way tow vehicles connect to trailers and caravans. WiTi replaces the 7/12 pin plug and transmits all lighting and braking signals from the tow vehicle to the caravan or trailer using WiFi. It is described by many as a game changer and the biggest innovation to hit the caravan world in 20 years. Traditional wired connections are prone to loose connections, corroded terminals and the plugs themselves are poorly designed, often falling out or getting damaged in poor terrain and off-road conditions. WiTi also replaces all the exposed wiring with two control units - one in the tow vehicle and a second in the trailer. WiTi uses the standard 7 core wiring harness so installation is relatively straight forward - if you can replace a 7 pin plug, you can install WiTi. WiTi supports all electronic brake controllers (RedArc, TowPro, Tekonsha, etc.) and we will be launching our own fully integrated proportional brake controller in the coming weeks, which is currently undergoing testing. The units are paired to each other and cannot be interfered with by other WiTi units or other wireless devices. WiFi was chosen as a technology due to it's range and signal stability and WiTi has a range of at least 40 metres. As WiTi already manages the electric brakes it was a natural progression to include a Break-away system. The WiTi Break-away functions as a normal breakaway by applying the brakes when the switch connected between the tow vehicle and caravan is pulled apart. The wireless communication also includes the most advanced Anti-Theft system for caravans and trailers that are fitted with electric brakes. The trailer module incorporates a gyroscope and accelerometer that is sensitive to movement. In the event an attempt is made to hitch up the caravan, WiTi sounds an alarm, flashes all the lights and, most importantly, WiTi locks the brakes - making it impossible to tow the caravan. The Anti-Theft system is supplied with two key fobs to arm and disarm the system and also incorporates a safety feature to prevent the system from activating whilst travelling. When armed the lights flash once and then there is a 3 second safety pause where WiTi checks for movement. If there is no movement, the lights flash twice and the system is armed. If there is existing movement, the system will not arm. This is to prevent accidental arming, for example, by sitting on the key fob or by a person accidentally pressing the button whilst travelling. In January 2018, the ACMA introduced legislation supporting Intelligent Transport Systems and wireless communication between vehicles. This is paving the way for many innovations in safety and driverless vehicles. Industry/Spectrum/Spectrum-planning/Aboutspectrum-planning/acma-introduces-newregulations-to-support-intelligent-transport-systems WiTi is ahead of the curve and is one of the first wireless devices designed to increase safety and enhance driver awareness of the status of the caravan or trailer being towed. It is our vision that WiTi is a single unit that performs the task of multiple units currently installed in caravans and greatly enhances the safety, reliability and the transmission of information back to the driver in the vehicle. The product road map includes a touch screen that is permanently mounted in the tow vehicle to warn the driver of failed tail lights, brake performance and whether the brake magnets are all working correctly, status of the battery charge, tyre pressure monitoring as well as various other inputs be they fridge temperature, the ability to turn on external lights as the tow vehicle approaches and so forth. The touch screen will also allow users to set the sensitivity of the Anti-Theft system, the low voltage warning and remotely switch on and off accessories in the caravan. WiTi is the culmination of three years of research and development. The announcement of the AC- MA s legislation was perfectly timed with the launch of WiTi. 10 FEATURE FROM POVERTY TO A KINGDOM A STORY AS BIG AND COLOURFUL AS AUSTRALIA ITSELF Two weary passengers a man and a boy step down from the Western Mail into a town baking in the fierce heat of summer. Dust rises from a noisy mob of cattle being herded down the street and horses tethered to cedar trees swish their tails against the constant swarm of flies. It is Two years earlier Harry Corones and his young nephew Jimmy left their tiny fishing village in Greece with only a few words of English between them and a plan to head for America. Was it fate that put them on a boat bound for Sydney, then a train to the heart of the Queensland outback? Charleville was an unlikely stepping stone to fame and fortune. But Harry would build a magnificent hotel, his Taj Mahal on the Warrego, and play host to royalty, rock stars and everyone in between. Together he and Jimmy would carve out a life in Charleville and Quilpie to rival any Hollywood blockbuster. What the Corones boys did in western Queensland and how they did it is the stuff of Australian history - where we have come from. If we stop asking and answering this question how will we know why our future continues to shape the way that it has? But they left a fabulous legacy, the Hotel Corones. In its heyday, it played host to royalty, rock stars and everyone in between. Together uncle and nephew carved out a life in Charleville and Quilpie to rival any Hollywood blockbuster. Their story encompasses most of the 20th century and it is full to the brim with life and death, celebration and sadness. Harry 'Poppa" lost a son when the boy was only 15; Jimmy, his nephew aged 11 when they came to Australia, died in 1966 and he lived on until '72. They had never re-visited Kythera their birthplace. Fran Harding ABOUT THE AUTHOR HOTEL CORONES CHARLEVILLE Here s a great story written by Frances Harding about the Hotel Corones in Charleville. The book is titled The Accidental Australians the story of Harry and Jimmy Corones and the hotel that Harry would build in Western Queensland. Frances Harding has been many things in her life, nurse, business owner, mother off eight, publican, and now author. When she and her husband Gordon bought a run-down hotel in Western Queensland, she had no idea of the extraordinary story that was hidden beneath the peeling wallpaper and ugly carpet. As she and Gordon slowly returned Hotel Corones to its former glory, Fran felt herself connecting deeply with the rich history of its colourful past.
