2 There is simply nothing like it! Take a deep breath. Catch the scent of pine cones and roasting marshmallows, and you are ready for your summer camp adventure. There are leaves to rustle through, water to plunge into and trails to explore. There are campfire stories that make you laugh and shiver, like the night air causing you to snuggle deeper into the warmth of your sleeping bag drifting off to dream of the fun you ll have tomorrow. At summer camp you can come for the day, for 3, 5 or even 12 nights. You can bring a buddy or come on your own, but in no time you will know all the girls in your camping unit just like your friends back home. That is just the nature of summer camp friends made summer after summer often become your friends for life. You might even come to camp with your whole troop or with your favorite woman! Camp Evelyn is near Plymouth, WI. We have a beautiful lake, a flowing river and a sparkling swimming pool. Camp Manitou in Shoto, WI is on the banks of Serenity Lake in Manitowoc County and is graced with deep forests, rolling trails and even a frisbee golf course. Try your hand at kayaking, art, music, paddleboard, swimming and campfires, discovering the constellations, experiments, and archery. Summer camp is open to all girls entering 1st-12th grade. Not a Girl Scout? Simply add $25 to the camp fee to become a member, and join in the fun! Bring your friends and show them how to have a blast this summer! 1

9 Life at Camp Evelyn Delicious Meals There is nothing like activity and fresh air to make a girl HUNGRY! Camp meals and snacks are healthy and are foods kids like. Most meals are prepared by our cooks and eaten in the dining hall, and girls also cook at least one meal themselves outdoors, maybe more. Most diets (gluten free, diabetic, kosher, vegetarian, vegan, allergies, etc.) can be accomodated by contacting the director of camp and program two weeks prior to the stay at camp. Campers with dietary restrictions are welcome to bring a few alternative meals if they wish. Sweet Dreams You ll sleep on cots covered with mosquito netting in tents set up on raised platforms or in cabins. Counselors sleep in tents or cabins that are VERY close by, but not in the same tents or cabins as girls. Kapers Kapers are chores, important in Girl Scouting, to learn that everyone must do their share. In small groups, you ll take turns doing kapers like setting and clearing dining hall tables, sweeping, raising and lowering the flag and keeping camp beautiful. Special Needs Camp Evelyn can accommodate most physical, medical, developmental, dietary, behavioral or communications needs. Contact the director of camp and program to discuss the camp session and specific needs. Safety is priority-one at camp Our staff complete intense training in how to keep girls safe while still having lots of fun. Camp Evelyn is operated by the standards of Girl Scouts of the USA, which meet or exceed the standards of the local and state health departments. All staff pass a thorough screening process including criminal and sexual offender background checks. Each staff member is certified in CPR and first aid and many are lifeguards. A qualified health supervisor is on-site at all times, and a doctor is on-call. Those picking up campers must be listed on the transportation form completed by the parent and show photo ID. 8

10 Three varieties of fun at Camp! All-Camp Action Girl Scouts love the magic that comes only from a large group all together, so a few times per week the whole camp gets together for talent shows, campfires, kickball games, karaoke dance parties, capture the flag, carnivals, scavenger hunts, pool parties, guest presenters, skits and songs. If all the girls can imagine it, all the girls can make it happen all over camp. Unit Unity The girls who live together in your camp community, called a unit become your closest friends. They are close to your age, and you experience so much together. You choose the activities to dive into as a group. Maybe you ll stay up late and hear stories of the constellations, or form a noodle train in the pool, cook-out your supper, conquer an obstacle course, jump in Crystal Lake, or inspire each other with your art and science projects. Individual Adventures Because each of us is special, with special talents and interests, at least three times per day you ll get to choose an activity that is open to girls from the entire camp, not just your unit. You ll make new friends and try activities that might not be selected by your unit mates. River stomping, archery, unique arts, SUP, kayaking, cooking, outdoor baking, and games and sports are among the many choices. Keeping in Touch Letters and While campers can t bring cellphones to camp, a letter or from home can make the difference between a good day and a great day! Mail a letter to your daughter before the session or put mail in the camper mailbox at check-in. More info about communication is in the confirmation packet. Camp Photos and Newsletter Each week we post online a fun newsletter and photos of the awesome activities going on at camp. There is no cost to view the photos and newsletters however, you may choose to purchase the pictures. Information is in the confirmation packet. 9

11 Visit our Camps Experience camp with your daughter before her session. You ll meet the staff, make s mores, play camp games, sing songs, hike the beautiful trails, and have a campfire lunch. They ll be archery at Camp Evelyn and swimming in Serenity Lake and disc golf at Camp Manitou (bring your towel and suit.) Watch your for more information or logon to for more information and to register to attend. Camp Evelyn Explorer or Camp Manitou Magic Saturday, May 19 Saturday, June 9 Register by May 9 Register by June 4 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. $10 per person attending The We know you ll love Camp Evelyn Tour Thursdays, June 21, June 28, or July 12, 4:00-6:00 p.m. abby@gsmanitou.org to let her know you are coming. Camp Store The Camp Evelyn store is bursting with camp goodies including T-shirts, water bottles, toys, additional activity items and more. Prices vary from $1 to $30 so there is something for everyone. Camp Evelyn T-shirts, a most popular item, are $14. Help your daughter bring her camp memories home by depositing funds into her camp store account when you register her for camp. Cash, check, credit card, gift cards and program credits earned in the cookie sale are accepted. The remaining balance at the end of the camp session will be returned in the form of a Girl Scouts of Manitou Council gift card. Let your daughter know you will be thinking of her with a Camp Care Package Purchased when you register and given to her on her first day at camp (except Birthday Blast!)
