Gabriel's tiled stove models range from traditional turn-of-the-century models to present-day, modern styles, which fit in with contemporary architecture and interior design styles. The same principle of a 5-channel flue design that was developed in the 1760s is still in use today. Its high level of efficiency and its ability to retain heat for a long time is what makes the tiled stove one of the best options for achieving low energy costs, high environmental standards and safe heating. Gabriel Burmeister had help from skilful tiled stove decorators, among them Hjalmar Dahl from Gagnef in Dalarna, who was considered to be one of the foremost ceramic decorators of the time. Before coming into contact with Gabriel Burmeister he had been painting tiled stoves at Boivers tiled stove factory in Uppsala. Gabriel Burmeister In 1925, Gabriel Burmeister acquired Tillinge Faience Factory in Timmernabben, which dated back to 1859, and formed Gabriel Faience Works. Hjalmar Dahl and a number of other former employees moved with the company to Timmernabben, where they helped develop Gabriel Faience Works into one of the foremost ceramic manufacturers in Sweden. Gabriel Burmeister took the initiative for a new industrial art movement by inspiring leading artists to raise the artistic standard of industrially produced goods. Stockholm Gabriel Keramik, as the company is known today, is still run by the Burmeister family. Production comprises tiles and tiled stoves, as well as functional and ornamental stoneware. 25 Technical description The stove is constructed using an ingenious system of modules made from a refractory heat accumulating material comprising an inner core and an outer shell which are separated from each other. The inner core absorbs a large proportion of the heat expansion and moderates the stove's thermal movements. The efficient five-channel flue design helps ensure an extremely high efficiency rate and distributes even and comfortable heat to the room over a period of more than 24 hours. Gabriel's tiled stoves are connected upwards or to the rear to an existing, approved chimney. If there is no chimney, a modular chimney in brick or steel can be mounted on top of the tiled stove. For a new installation or change in type of stove, planning permission is required. Before the tiled stove can be used, it must be approved by a chimney sweep. The tiled stoves have received CE marking from SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden and meet the environmental and safety requirements that apply to installations in a built-up area, according to building regulations BBR, BFS 1993:57 with amendments up to and including 2008:6 issued by the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning.
