At Check-In you will receive a slip of paper with your dorm and room assignment, as well as your ensemble assignment. Please allow your child to go through the registration process alone. If you have your roommate with you, it is best to go through the line together. 2 IMPORTANT!! GETTING TO THE DORM FROM THE PARKING DECK - LEAVE LUGGAGE IN THE CAR UNTIL YOU HAVE REGISTERED! Most dorms are within easy walking distance of the parking deck including Grogan, Reynolds, Guilford and Mary Foust dorms. However, North & South Spencer dorms (many of the female campers) may be accessed more conveniently by driving. FEMALE campers only: before taking any luggage out of your vehicle, please go through the registration process to get your room assignment. Then, determine whether you will be walking or driving to your dorm. MALE campers will be walking to Reynolds, Guilford, and Mary Foust, which are nearby. So, MALE campers may unload luggage and bring it to registration. Parents should assist with the "moving in" process. Also, please wear comfortable shoes and clothes, and bring an umbrella! RECEIVE ROOM KEYS & ENTRY CARDS AT THE DORM ON YOUR FLOOR After you have gotten through the check-in process at the McIver Street Parking Deck, collect your suitcases and belongings, and proceed to your floor in the dorm. You will receive a room key and an entry card from a Camp Counselor on your floor. Be certain to save the Registration Slip received during check-in which tells you the dorm and room number in which you will be staying! On Sunday after check-in, make specific plans for a time and place to meet your child on Friday during the 4:00-5:30 p.m. pick-up time. This is important decide on Sunday when and where to meet your child on Friday, such as on the dorm patio, in the dorm lobby, on the sidewalk in front of the dorm, or at the dorm room. 3 ARRIVING ON TIME IS ESSENTIAL! 1:30-4:30 p.m. for Overnight Campers Please understand that it is absolutely essential to arrive on time and have your child be present for the first rehearsal and orientation session at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. The first rehearsal and orientation session at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday is essential and cannot be missed! You must be checked-in to the camp and moved into your room before that 6:30 p.m. meeting begins. We will hand out the schedules at the first rehearsal and spend a considerable period of time going over important information about the camp goals including many safety items. Simply put, overnight campers must arrive between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. to check in. LATE REGISTRATION 4:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. in GROGAN DORM LOBBY If you happen to have car trouble or some other emergency on Sunday and find that you will arrive after 4:30 p.m., you'll need to report to the lobby of Grogan Dorm for late check-in - both boys and girls. (See the map in this Handbook to find Grogan Dorm which is next to the parking deck.) PLASTIC I.D. BRACELETS FOR ALL CAMPERS Each Summer Music Camp student must wear a colored plastic I.D. bracelet for the entire week. We will attach it to the wrist of each student at registration in the McIver Street Parking Deck. This serves as the camper's meal ticket, general camp I.D., access to the dorm, etc. The bracelet is waterproof and will not be affected by the shower. The I.D. bracelet also has information about the private lesson (if you signed up for one) including day, time, and room. So, you'll be leaving the bracelet on all week! MUSIC CAMP STAFF MEMBERS (will be wearing Red ID Bracelets) The Summer Music Camp employs more than 170 teachers, counselors, and conductors. All of the music camp employees are music education professionals and include UNCG faculty members, graduate music students, undergraduate music students and the finest public and private school music teachers from the southeastern United States. If you have a question during camp, please ask any of the music camp staff members. ELDERLY PERSONS ON CHECK-IN DAY & DORM ELEVATOR ADVICE Bringing a music camp student to check-in is not well suited for elderly persons (such as grandparents) or those with infirmities. Walking one to three blocks on a hot summer day and carrying musical instruments, suitcases, bedding, etc. requires at least a moderate amount of physical stamina. The high-rise dorms do have elevators, but the elevators will likely be crowded and hot! At the dorm, we suggest using the elevators for the trip up, but taking the stairs for the trip down! MUSIC CAMP T-SHIRTS $10.00 & THE MUSIC CAMP STORE Camp T-Shirts are $ All shirts are premium-quality medium weight (pre-shrunk) in adult sizes: Small, Medium, Large, Extra-Large and XXL. We know that you'll want to buy one. The Summer Music Camp Store has accessories available for most instruments including reeds, valve oil, polishing cloth, spray bottles, cork grease, neck straps, bow rosin, swabs, strings, ligatures, etc. These accessories will be available for purchase on Sunday afternoon at the McIver Street Parking Deck during registration. We will also have Music Camp lanyards for sale! DINNER FOR CAMPERS ON SUNDAY 4:15-6:00 p.m. IN THE DINING HALL Dinner Sunday evening for all campers will be served in the UNCG Dining Hall, just one or two blocks away from all the dorms. Dinner will begin at 4:15 p.m., so be certain to go and eat sometime between 4:15 and 6:00 p.m. Following dinner, return to your dorm and get your instrument and folding metal music stand. Then, head to your rehearsal location for the 6:30 p.m. first rehearsal for all campers. SUNDAY EVENING 6:30 p.m. - ALL CAMPERS REPORT TO FIRST REHEARSAL ALL CAMPERS will report to their first rehearsal at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. 6 THE PROCESS FOR FRIDAY AFTERNOON - THE LAST DAY! PARENTS OF OVERNIGHT STUDENTS MUST AGAIN PARK IN THE McIVER STREET PARKING DECK NEAR THE DORM (Allow some extra time. It will be very crowded at the parking deck!) 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Parents of students staying in the dormitory should plan to meet their child between 4:00 and 5:30 on Friday. Park in the McIver Street Parking Deck and walk to the dorm where your child is staying. You may park in the McIver Street Parking Deck at any time after 3:00 p.m., but please don t go to the dorm much before 4:00 p.m. Make an agreement with your child on Sunday about a particular place and time to meet on Friday. For example, first agree on a time, such as 4:15 or 4:30 p.m. and then on a place to meet, such as the dorm room, or the curb in front of the dorm, in the dorm lobby, or patio area. By 4:00 p.m., the luggage will already be packed, keys turned in, and students will be dressed for the concerts. Parents will not be allowed to enter the dorm until 4:00 p.m. or when students are released. Load the luggage into the car at this time. 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Parents of dorm students should plan to eat dinner with their child on-campus or off-campus before the concerts begin. All family members are welcome to eat with the camp students on Friday evening in the UNCG Dining Hall. Since your child has already paid for this meal, eating in the Dining Hall is your most convenient and affordable option. Parents and other family members may eat for $8.50 and children ages 4 to 8 may eat for $5.00. Children under age 4 may eat free. This is an all-you-can-eat buffet style meal and it is a bargain indeed. Your child will be able to direct the family to the Dining Hall and you will walk there from the Parking Deck after loading the luggage into the car. (see map) 6:15 p.m. Concerts Begin (locations on page 5) Concerts will be presented by all campers in five different locations. Your child will know the location and time. Most concerts should conclude by about 8:00 p.m. or earlier. Housing is not provided on Friday night. Camp concludes with the Friday night concerts. DAY CAMPERS ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON 2:40 p.m. Parents of Day Campers should plan to meet their child along Administration Drive directly behind the UNCG Auditorium (see Map) or at the Music Building if in Piano Camp or Junior Mixed Chorus or Senior Mixed Chorus. Day Campers must remember to change into a white shirt (or blouse) and dark trousers (or skirt) and return for the concerts by 6:00 p.m. You are also welcome to eat in the Dining Hall between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. (Please read the information about the Dining Hall on Friday two paragraphs above.) RELOCATING THE CAR PRIOR TO THE CONCERT? If your child's concert is located in UNCG Auditorium or Taylor Theatre, you may want to relocate your car to the large lot south of the UNCG Auditorium on Tate Street (see map) after you have eaten. Do not park in the FedEx/Manhattan Subs parking lot across Tate Street from the UNCG Auditorium. Do not park in the Campus Police Station lot across from the UNCG Auditorium. Do not park in the spaces reserved for the Weatherspoon Art Museum! If your child's concert is located in Elliott University Center, you may want to relocate your car to the Walker Avenue Parking Deck after you have eaten. If your child is in the Piano Camp, Junior Mixed Chorus, or Senior Mixed Chorus, you will want to remain in the McIver Street Parking Deck for all of Friday afternoon (dorm pick-up, dinner & concert) since your concerts will be in the Music Building. COMPACT DISCS OF THE FRIDAY CONCERTS Compact Disc Recordings of the concerts may be ordered on Sunday in the McIver Street Parking Deck or in the lobby on the evening of the concert. Each of the compact discs will be professionally recorded by DESIGN RECORDING of Powhatan, Virginia, using state-of-the-art digital equipment. There will be four separate compact discs available each week - one for each concert location. Compact discs are only $20 for each concert location including postage and handling. Delivery is expected within one week. HOW IS CAMP ENROLLMENT THIS YEAR? Enrollment is at the max! With an overwhelming demand, we have been able to accept a large number of music campers again this year and 2017 will be our largest year ever! While on the campus of UNCG, your children will be attending "America's Most Popular Music Camp!" Staffed by 170 professionals and enrolling over 2,000 camp students, the UNCG Summer Music Camp continues to provide the highest quality one-week music camp to be found anywhere. Music Camp students this summer are drawn from 20 states, from California to Vermont and Minnesota to Florida as well as from China, Mexico, and India!

Behavior which is disruptive will not be tolerated and may result in dismissal. 2. Each student is responsible for the condition of his or her dormitory room. Damaged property will be the responsibility of the student and parent. 4. 8 OUR CELL PHONE POLICY - IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS & STUDENTS We believe that there is no need at all for a student to bring a cell phone to camp and that there is some risk of it being lost or stolen. If you do elect to bring a cell phone to music camp, we have specific rules for campers with cell phones. On Sunday evening at the 6:30 p.m. first rehearsal of all camp students, our cell phone policy will be explained in detail. We encourage parents to review this policy with their child now. At that first rehearsal and meeting on Sunday, students with cell phones will be asked to turn their phone off. They will be asked to leave their cell phone in their dorm room for the remainder of camp. Camp students will be able to use their cell phone during free time and when they are in the dorm. Each camp student will be warned that answering a call, making a call or texting during a music rehearsal or class or evening activity will result in the cell phone being taken away and stored in the camp office until the end of the week. A special note to parents: Please do not call the Music Camp Office to tell us that My child is not answering his or her cell phone! Something must be wrong! On Sunday evening, for example, even after returning to the dorm, all students have a floor meeting with their counselors at about 9:30 p.m. This is an orientation meeting for the dorm and the cell phones will remain turned off during that time. Except in the case of an emergency, we will not attempt to deliver any "call your parents" messages during camp. Please remember, not hearing from your child is a very good thing. It means everything is all right. Should there be a problem, you will likely hear from us first. HEALTH CARE & THE MEDICAL HISTORY/PERMISSION FOR TREATMENT FORM In the event of an illness or injury to a student at camp, a staff member will escort that student to the Summer Music Camp nurse for prompt evaluation and first aid. If your child is injured at camp, we will contact the parents to discuss our plan of treatment. Should your child require the attention of a physician, we will take him or her to a nearby Urgent Care facility. In the unlikely event that a student would need hospitalization, we will arrange for immediate transportation. Costs resulting from prescription medication, x-rays, or lab work are the responsibility of the parent. Costs resulting from hospital or Urgent Care treatment are the responsibility of the parent. We have included a Medical History & Permission for Treatment Form for you to complete. This form does not require a physical examination nor does it require anything from your physician, since the UNCG Summer Music Camp is non-strenuous. Be certain, however, that a parent signs the Permission for Treatment portion of the Camp Health Form. Also, be sure to include your Medical Insurance Policy information on the Camp Health Form should your child require treatment, x-rays, etc., beyond the routine care provided by the UNCG Summer Music Camp nursing staff. CONTACTING YOUR CHILD AT CAMP (please read carefully) If you have an emergency or a vital need to get a message to your son or daughter during the week, please call the Music Camp Office between 8:30 a.m. and 9:45 p.m. We will deliver the message to your child as soon as possible. It is simply not possible for you to call the camp office or the dorm and have your child brought to the phone. Remember, not hearing from your son or daughter means that all is well! Music Camp Office or (local) only as a last resort, in case of extreme after hours emergency, call Campus Police at (336) SENDING MAIL TO MUSIC CAMPERS Mail sent to music campers should be addressed as follows: Your Child's Name c/o UNCG Summer Music Camp P.O.
