1 2018 Parent Information Packet Please read the enclosed information carefully. We ask that you retain this packet for reference throughout the summer. Thank you for enrolling your family in the St. Margaret s Family Camp. The following information should answer a number of questions concerning Family Camp. CAMP OVERVIEW: At St. Margaret s Family Camp, your family will explore new things, make exciting discoveries, and have quality camp fun together! Arts and crafts, water activities, games, sports, and making new friends are all part of this family weekend. REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT: Please be aware that we will not be able to confirm your registration until all paperwork is properly completed. We require a $250 deposit per family when registering for St. Margaret s Family Camp. All deposits are non-refundable. The remaining balance is due no later than May 4, Register in person at St. Margaret s anytime Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. You can also visit the school website to register online at CANCELLATIONS: A partial refund will be given if your family is sent home due to illness with verification from the family s physician. Refunds are not issued in cases when the family is sent home for negative behavior or elects to voluntarily withdraw from camp after arrival. St. Margaret s retains the right to require that a camper be dismissed from the premises should that camper not abide by the guidelines, rules, or policies in force. CAMPER INFORMATION: We will need a copy of the physical exam for each camper before your registration can be complete. Physicals must take place within the last 12 months. NO CAMPER WILL BE ADMITTED WITHOUT A COMPLETE HEALTH INFORMATION FORM. CAMPER HEALTH AND SAFETY: At St. Margaret s Family Camp, camper safety is our first priority. All staff members undergo intensive training on how to prevent and handle a variety of emergency situations. If an emergency does occur, the safety of campers will be secured and the appropriate authorities and parents/guardians notified. It is essential that we have accurate information for the parents/guardians as well as a separate emergency contact. The Camp Director will be available for first aid and distribution of over-the-counter medications. Should any camper require outside medical care, all expenses will be the financial responsibility of the family. Health insurance coverage is the sole responsibility of the parent/guardian. Given our great location on the Rappahannock River, parents please make sure any child under the age of 13 is with adult supervision at all times. Teens are allowed to wander on their own but must abide by all rules and follow staff directions.

2 WATERFRONT: Anyone on a boat, kayak, or paddle board must wear a life jacket at ALL times. Anyone under the age of 18 must wear a life jacket if in the river swimming. Anyone under the age of 18 must wear a life jacket if on the dock. No one under the age of 13 is allowed on the waterfront without an adult supervisor. No swimming or boating without a life guard on duty. Fishing and crabbing on the dock is allowed. POOL: Anyone under the age of 18 must pass a swim test to go into the deep end. We will provide a wristband for those who pass. Anyone under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult supervisor. Follow pool rules at all times. CAMP: St. Margaret s is a tobacco and drug-free campus. No pets allowed during Family Camp. Camp fires can only happen in designated areas. HOURS OF OPERATION: Friday, July 13 from 4:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. to Sunday, July 15 at 1:00 p.m. CHECK-IN: Check-in is from 4:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. the first day of camp. Our buildings will not open until 4:00 p.m. Staff will assist you with parking. The check-in process will take about 15 minutes and will include room assignments and completion of any missing paperwork. CHECK-OUT: Check-out is 1:00 p.m. on the last day of camp. CAMP SCHEDULE: All activities are by choice and optional. You will have the opportunity Friday, during check-in, to sign up for activities you would like to participate in. Saturday: 6:30 a.m. Workout 8:00 a.m. Breakfast 9:00 a.m. 12:00 noon Activity Session 1 12:30 p.m. Lunch 1:30 p.m. 5:30 p.m. Activity Session 2 6:00 p.m. Dinner 7:00 p.m. 8:30 p.m. Activity Session 3 9:00 p.m. Camp Fire Sunday: 6:30 a.m. Workout 8:00 a.m. Breakfast 9:00 a.m. 11:30 a.m. Activity Session 4 12:00 noon Lunch 1:00 p.m. Departure WHAT TO BRING: Please see the What To Bring List for a complete list of suggested items your family will need at St. Margaret s Family Camp MEALS AND NUTRITION: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served for all campers and counselors at regular times in our dining room.

3 The food is primarily made in-house and includes fresh vegetables and fruit whenever possible. There is always a sandwich station available at each meal and a salad bar at lunch and dinner. MEDICATION: The infirmary provides some non-prescription medications, such as Tylenol and cough drops, to be administered as needed. LOST AND FOUND: Please label EVERYTHING! This helps us return items that are found. Misplaced items will be placed in a box near the parent table. All items left behind without a clear indication of to whom they belong will be donated to a local charity after August 10, St. Margaret s Family Camp is not responsible for any misplaced items. FAMILY CODE OF CONDUCT: St. Margaret s expects all campers, parents, counselors, guests, and other members of camp, to be respectful and considerate to everyone at all times. Appropriate behavior promotes inclusion rather than exclusion, collaborative problem solving, seeing mistakes as opportunity for growth and striving for appropriate conflict resolution. 4 St. Margaret's School Summer Camps 2018 Water Activities Waiver and Release of Liability (Adult) In consideration of being allowed to participate in any way in the St. Margaret's School Summer Camps, the undersigned acknowledges, appreciates, and agrees that: The risk of injury from activities involved in this program are significant, including potential for permanent paralysis and death, and while particular rules and equipment, and personal discipline may reduce this risk, the risk of serious injury does exist; and, I knowingly and freely assume all such risk, both known and unknown, even if arising from the negligence of the releasee or others and assume full responsibility for my participation; and, I willingly agree and hereby release and hold harmless St. Margaret's School, their staff, other agencies, sponsors, and other participants, and owners and leasers of premises and equipment used to conduct the activities, with respect to any and all injury, disability, death, and loss or damage to person or property, whether arising from the negligence of the releasee, or otherwise. I understand this waiver can and may be used for all water events that I will participate in this summer. I have read this Water Activities Waiver and Release of Liability agreement and fully understand its terms. I also understand that I have given up substantial rights by signing it, and sign it freely and voluntarily without inducement. Water activities that I may participate in include swimming in the river and pool, sailing, kayaking, canoeing, riding a jet ski, wakeboarding, paddle boarding, water skiing, tubing, and knee boarding. 6 WHAT TO BRING TO FAMILY CAMP 2018 The following is a list of suggested items your family should pack for camp. Please label everything before arriving to camp. This helps us return lost items once they are found. We suggest that campers leave jewelry at home and refrain from bringing unnecessary articles of expensive clothing. Clothing: Shorts Shirts Long pants White t-shirt for tie dye shirt night Pajamas Heavy sweatshirt, sweater, or jacket Pair of socks Underclothing items Raincoat Pair of water/river shoes Pair of tennis shoes Pair of flip flops/crocs Swimsuits Linens: Pillow Pillow case Fitted twin bed sheet Flat twin bed sheet Blanket Bath towels Pool/river towels Bathrobe/towel wrap Hand towels Washcloths Toiletry Articles: Soap/body wash Toothbrush Toothpaste Hair brush Shampoo/conditioner Plastic bucket to carry toiletries Necessities: Flashlight Extra batteries Hat Sunglasses Sun block (SPF 30 or more) Bug spray Water bottle Optional Items: Waterproof watch Portable camping chair Books/games Personal life jacket (if you have one) Do NOT Pack Expensive jewelry, clothing, or anything you would be upset if damaged or lost Candy, gum, or snacks Animals Candles or other flammables Weapons, alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, or any other illegal substance

7 St. Margaret s is not responsible for items that become damaged, lost, or stolen. Participants are responsible for making their own arrangements to pick up any items left at camp. PERSONAL LIFE JACKET AND WATER SHOES: All campers must wear a life jacket when around the water. Campers are asked to bring their own life jacket if they have one. This will ensure you and your family are comfortable with his or her jacket. Please make sure your name is on your jacket before camp starts. St. Margaret's will provide life jackets to those campers who do not bring their own but will NOT provide water/river shoes. NOT ACCEPTABLE: ACCEPTABLE:
