Members can pay their bills over the phone with a debit card, credit card, or check by using our new Pay by Phone number, With this automated service, you enter your payment using the buttons on your phone s keypad. You can also use the system to change your phone number. Why is NFEC using the Pay by Phone system? Our Cooperative is switching to this new system in order to comply with the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard. PCI requirements represent a worldwide standard for processing payments that prevents credit card fraud and other data security breaches. NFEC is committed to the protection of your personal information, and the Cooperative must switch to this new automated phone system in order to keep accepting credit/debit card payments over the phone. How will Pay by Phone benefit me? The new Pay by Phone system increases the security on your account, providing more protection for your information than ever before. Like before, there will be no Pay by Phone processing fees charged. How do I get started? Before you call, you will need your NFEC account number. After dialing, you will go to the main menu. You ll be prompted to press numbers for the actions you wish to complete. If you choose to pay by electronic check, you will be asked to create a PIN number to protect your account. Before creating your PIN number, you will enter the last four digits of your Social Security Number (SSN) to verify your identity. Shooting at Northfork Electric distribution facilities wires, poles and insulators is dangerous to you, jeopardizes everyone s power, and is a federal crime. A gunshot can make electricity arc to the ground or cause the wire to fall, with a high risk of serious injury or death. Never attempt to shoot through the wires or at anything that may be on the wires or poles. Responsible, ethical and safe hunters will always consider the environment where they are hunting. Make sure of your target, and what is in front and beyond it. If your target is skylined on a hill or power line and you cannot see what lies beyond, do not take the shot. General Safety Do not fly kites or model airplanes near the power lines. Do not climb or attach anything to any power line pole, including deer stands, climbing steps or blinds. Do report anything unusual you observe to help us keep our lines safe and service reliable. Downed and Damaged Power Lines If you accidentally shoot and damage any part of an electric utility s facility wires, poles, and insulators - or encounter a downed power line, stay at least 40 feet away and leave the area. Immediately call 911 and your local utility company. Do not go back for any reason until the utility company has safely disconnected and de-energized the line and repaired the damage. Using a metal ladder to access his metal stand, on a pole that has a transformer on it is extremely dangerous.

5 A Bright Alternative for Safe and Clean Energy We all share a responsibility for energy efficiency wherever and whenever we can. At Northfork Electric, we re committed to improving our members quality of life. By using renewable resources, we can offer our members viable and affordable options to voluntarily participate in renewable solar energy. In a new initiative meant to meet the needs of our membership, Northfork Electric has partnered with Today s Power Inc. (TPI) to offer ground-mount solar kits intended to provide cooperative members with a renewable and reliable mix of energy at their homes. We recognize that some members have an interest in solar energy, however, many times the information received may be confusing or incomplete. We want to ensure that our members know what to expect when considering a solar generating system and that is why we have partnered with TPI to offer these residential solar kits, says NFEC General Manager Scott Copeland. The 4 kw and 8 kw lowvoltage solar kits come installation-ready with all parts and easy-to-follow instructions for safety assurance. All TPI Solar Kits include the solar panels, racking, inverters, and system monitoring software to view the energy production in realtime. The TPI Solar Kit is 40% smaller than most solar kits on the market, and has been proven to produce between 303 and 785 kwh s a month. The NFEC member cost of the 4 kw kit is $14,995 and the 8 kw kit is $29,500. These prices do not include installation costs or potential tax incentives. Please note: energy projections are estimates only and will vary from year to year and by location. In many cases, system payback is roughly equal to the system life (approximately 25 years.) 6 Look for Black Friday Deals on Electronics Make a game plan before you join the line outside of your favorite store on Black Friday and you re likely to get better deals and spend less time fighting the holiday crowds. Here s some intel to help you create your strategy for buying this season s most popular electronics: Expect Apple to offer Black Friday discounts on most of its devices, as it has in the past. This year, the iphone 8 will go on sale. If last year s offer is any indication, you could save up to $100 on a new phone. Samsung also will cut phone prices for the occasion, including on its Galaxy S8. Last year, the manufacturer gave the S7 away for free with a contract, and threw in a gift card and a Samsung Gear VR headset. Prices on gaming consoles undoubtedly will drop on Black Friday; they usually do. The best deals most likely will be available to shoppers who buy a bundle that includes the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X. Expect rock-bottom prices on high-tech TVs. Expensive and sophisticated smart TVs could sell for half price at big-box electronics and discount stores. Before it Gets Too Cold Outside... Replace your old electric space heaters with newer models that feature automatic shut-off switches and nonglowing heating elements. And keep them at least three feet away from flammable fabrics, like curtains and sofa covers. Check around windows, doors and electrical outlets for air leaks, and around wall penetrations for cables and phone lines, where cold air can sneak into the house. Caulk holes and replace worn-out weather-stripping. Do this on the inside and outside of the house. Change the batteries in your carbon monoxide detectors and smoke alarms. Don t have any detectors? Get some now. Keep fire extinguishers around the house and teach everyone in the family how to use them. If your windows are drafty, double them up with storm windows or by attaching plastic film on the inside of the glass panes. Have your heating system inspected. This is an annual necessity. A qualified contractor can let you know if your system is in good enough shape to make it through the winter.

7 No matter if you call it Dressing or Stuffing It s not Thanksgiving Without it! Simple is Best Dressing 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter plus more for baking dish 1 lb. good-quality day-old white bread, torn into 1 pieces (about 10 cups) 2 1/2 cups chopped yellow onions 1 1/2 cups 1/4 slices celery 1/2 cup chopped flat-leaf parsley 2 Tbsp. chopped fresh sage 1 Tbsp. chopped fresh rosemary 1 Tbsp. chopped fresh thyme 2 tsp. Kosher salt Apple Pecan Stuffing 2 cups onions, diced 1 Tbsp. brown sugar 1 cups carrots, diced 1 cups celery, diced 2 Granny Smith apples, diced 2 cloves garlic, minced 8 oz. butter, melted 12 cups bread, cubed 1½ - 2 cups broth 2 cups parsley, finely chopped 2 cups pecans, roughly chopped 2 tsp. Beau Monde seasoning 2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. pepper Preheat oven to 350 F Place onions in a small bowl and sprinkle sugar over them. Let onions sit for about an hour. In a large skillet saute carrots, celery, apples, and garlic until softened. Strain the sugared onions and add them to the saute along with melted butter. Add mixture to the bread and toss in a large bowl. Add chicken broth to the bread mixture along with the pecans, parsley, and Beau Monde seasoning, slowly tossing until the broth is all absorbed by the bread. Add salt and pepper to taste. Spoon into a well-greased 3-quart or 13- x 9-inch baking pan. Cover with foil and bake at 350 F for 45 minutes. Remove foil and continue to bake for 5-10 minutes or until top is crusty and brown. Thanksgiving Office Closing NFEC offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24 to allow our employees to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with their families. Please call to report an outage or safety hazard. Happy Thanksgiving Preheat oven to 250 F. Butter a 13x9x2 baking dish and set aside. Scatter bread in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake, stirring occasionally, until dried out, about 1 hour. Let cool; transfer to a very large bowl. Meanwhile, melt 3/4 cup butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat; add onions and celery. Stir often until just beginning to brown, about 10 minutes. Add to bowl with bread; stir in herbs, salt, and pepper. Drizzle in 1 & 1/4 cups broth and toss gently. Let cool. Preheat oven to 350 F. Whisk 1 & 1/4 cups broth and eggs in a small bowl. Add to bread mixture; fold gently until thoroughly combined. Transfer to prepared dish, cover with foil, and bake until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center of dressing registers 160 F, about 40 minutes. DO AHEAD: Dressing can be made 1 day ahead. Uncover; let cool. Cover; chill. Bake dressing, uncovered, until set and top is browned and crisp, minutes longer (if chilled, add minutes). Note: Use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth to make this dish vegetarian-friendly.

8 Use Less Energy in the Kitchen on Thanksgiving By mid-morning on Thanksgiving Day, your turkey will be in the oven; pies will be baking; casseroles will be heating up and all of the burners on your stove will be covered with pots and pans full of holiday favorites. That s a lot of energy to use at one time. Dial it back a bit so you don t waste any electricity while you re preparing your feast. Here are four tips: 1. Use the oven light to check on your turkey s progress instead of opening the door to peek at it every now and then. Every time you open the door, the temperature inside drops by at least 25 degrees. 2. Choose oven-baked side dishes that can cook at the same time as the turkey and at the same temperature. That will cut the time the oven is on and save the cook some time, too. 3. Trade your metal baking dishes for glass and ceramic pans. Because those materials retain heat better than metal, you can reduce the oven temperature by as much as 25 degrees without sacrificing perfection. In fact, glass and ceramic pans continue to cook the food even after you take it out of the oven. 4. Place lids on all stove top pots. If they fit tightly, lids will keep heat in, so you can lower the temperature. Plus, your food will cook faster. 5. Turn down the thermostat. If the oven and stove are on all day, your kitchen will be hot and the rest of the house will feel warmer than usual. So dial back the heat substantially. You and your dinner guests will be more comfortable and you won t waste energy.
