19 19 Recommended cleaning when using ContiTech hoses for the food and beverage industry Cleaning before first use Elastomer hoses may have a slight odor of their own, which is technologically unavoidable and can be eliminated by proper cleaning. We therefore recommend the following cleaning procedure before first use: q Fill the hose with hot water q Store in the hose for at least 10 hours q Empty the hose We then recommend one of the following cleaning processes: Cleaning agents Water Steam Chemicals Caustic Soda (NaOH) Hydrogen peroxid (H 2 O 2 ) Nitric acid (HNO 3 ) Temperature and duration + 90 C max. 20 minutes 2x C max. 20 minutes Temperature and duration 2 % at room temperature max. 30 minutes 0,15 % at room temperature max. 30 minutes 0,15 % at room temperature max. 30 minutes Standard cleaning After use or at regular intervals, the hose must be treated with an ordinary cleaning and sanitizing agent. For detailed information and to choose a suitable cleaning and sanitizing agent, please refer to our complete resistance list. Please observe our recommendations on storing and maintaining hoses. In all cases the hose must be rinsed with tap water! If the hose still unexpectedly gives off an odor, several cleaning processes should be conducted consecutively. Special features of extended disinfection cycles In the case of extended disinfection cycles such as those at the weekend or on public holidays notwithstanding the concentration specifications of the disinfection manufacturer, the concentrations are to be reduced by at least 50%.
