3 Hose Structure Inner tube The inner tube is in contact with the conveyed product, and must therefore meet certain requirements in terms of permeability, resistance to the fluid, resistance to high and low temperatures, resistance to abrasion, electrical, food properties, etc Reinforcement Reinforcement gives the hose its resistance to pressure and depression. Cover The cover is exposed to external stresses. According to its conditions of use, it must withstand ozone, UV radiation, temperatures, sprayed substances, abrasion, etc 3

4 Preparing the mixture Elastomer and the vulcanization system (sulfur, activators, accelerators) constitute the basis of the mixture's formula. The formula is often completed by fillers, softeners and various other substances to obtain the desired characteristics. The proportion of each of these items will determine the characteristics of the resulting mixture and also the properties (flexibility, resistance, etc.) of the fabricated hose. The mixture is used to manufacture the hose, certain types of reinforcement (rubber coated fabric) and the cover. 4

5 Hose manufacturing processes Inner tube The inner tube is manufactured using a mixture specific to each hose. Two tube manufacturing processes: Rodless manufacture, diameters 4-28 mm, Rod manufacture, diameters mm, max. length 40 m Reinforcement The reinforcement is made from: textile or metal threads, fabric, rubber-coated fabric, bracing wire, plastic rods, etc. Various types of reinforcement: spinned, braided, layered, metal spiral, special construction. Cover Like the tube, the cover is manufactured using a mixture specific to each hose. Some hoses have colored strips produced by co-extrusion. Various aspects of the cover: smoothness, fabric impression. Marking Most hoses are identified by marking that gives the name of the hose, the Trelleborg brand name and, if necessary, various characteristics satisfying the standardized identification requirements (reference to the standard, service pressure, food quality, maximum service temperatures, etc.). Marking production techniques: ink, embossed tape, transfer strip. 5

6 Curing Curing is essential. This gives the rubber mixture its final characteristics: elasticity, resistance to fluids, abrasion, temperature, etc. It makes all the hose components (inner tube, reinforcement and cover) finally solid. Curing is carried out with steam, pressurized in horizontal or vertical autoclaves, at a temperature between 140 C and 170 C for minutes 6
