1 Hello friends, During the past month, our Unit has covered quite a bit of ground. Literally we traveled to Wilder, ID and River s Edge RV Park. We had a very nice time with the river right in front of us and the nice people who run the park fixing food for us; thank you River s Edge. On a more figurative note, your executive committee approved a new Unit 35 flag design using the new logo (see page 8). For the first time since the charter of the Idaho Unit of WBCCI in 1965 our Unit now has a flag/logo design on its way to be sanctioned by the IBT. The International Board of Trustees will hold their biannual meeting at the WBCCI International Rally held in Escanaba, MI on July 22-29, At that meeting, our motion will be presented by Bob Caldwell, our Region 10 President. Bob will argue in favor of our proposal and hopefully be successful in the endeavor. It is difficult to predict the outcome of an IBT meeting. The actual name of our Unit as shown on the new logo does not exactly meet the name description of our unit as described in our Constitution and Bylaws. If the flag/logo are rejected by IBT because of that discrepancy, our unit will have to revisit this issue again next year and either change our unit name, or change the logo design so they match. As your President, I apologize to you for not being aware of this issue. I simply did not know about it until our process was finished and I was sending it to the IBT. This is a small example of what makes WBCCI such a longlasting great organization. The skeletal structure of this organization, the bureaucracy, takes work and respect to uphold what has gone before. It is that structure that holds us together. We each make choices to honor that or we fragment and fall apart. I sincerely hope the IBT can find a way to accept our new logo. I look forward to visiting with you at one of our upcoming rallies join us if you can. Thank you, Your President Fonny Davidson Idaho Unit of WBCCI a word from our president Idaho Unit Officers President - Fonny Davidson 1st Vice President - Peter Goedeking 2nd Vice President - Tom Usselman Secretary - Mim Davidson Treasurer - Earl Brace Past President - Michael Archer Trustees - Ben Campbell, Andy Falk, Charlie Burke, Pete Petersen 1!! 3 WELCOME NEW MEMBERS!! Kent Gardner, Ketchum ID Kevin & Marsha Golding, Boise ID Phil & Debbie Jimenez, Nampa ID Danny & Dorthea Robinson, Nampa ID Jeff & Susan Selle, Hayden ID John & Stephanie Thuerer, Boise ID Liz Woelfle, Eagle ID From New Member Liz Woelfle: We have a 27' Tommy Bahama Airstream. I named her "Stella". We have two doggies, we are retired, in our early 60's, living the good life in Eagle Idaho. bits, bites & rivets A big THANK YOU to former Idaho Unit Members MARK & SHERI ANDERSON for donating a new 10 x 10 self-supporting sun shade to the Unit! GO CHECK IT OUT!! URBAN RALLY COMMEMORATIVE BRICK AT THE GROVE PLAZA submitted by Charlie Burke For those who remember our Boise Urban Rally in 2014 on the Grove just before they started the latest round of construction...we have a commemorative brick on the plaza. Our brick is located in the 4 East group. That's northeast of the new fountain. So the next time you're in downtown Boise, maybe at the farmer's markets, it's an easy walk on the way between them. Steps for a TPT (toilet paper test) submitted by Mim D. aaaaaaaaaaaaa Grab a canning jar with a lid Pour in one (1) cup of room temperature water Place one (1) sheet of TP in the canning jar with the water Tighten the lid and give the jar one (1) shake Let stand on the counter for one (1) hour Check the jar every few hours to see how the TP is breaking down, there should be significant results within 12 hours Extra shaking of the jar isn't required, your RV isn't doing a lot of shaking unless you are traveling along a very curvy road Expected results will vary. Some three (3) ply TP will break down faster the one (1) ply TP. Some RV brands of TP do not break down very well at all while others break down very quickly. Some TP brands that were originally 'RV Friendly' are no longer 'RV Friendly' due to the manufacture changing something in how it is manufactured. (Note: you can find variations on-line. The goal is to confirm your toilet paper will disintegrate in the black tank.) 3

4 member spotlight Ben & Peg Campbell from Boise, ID Tell us about your family (including 4-legged members)...we have three sons and one daughter, two grand kids, and one great-granddaughter. One son and his family live in Arizona and the remainder live in Treasure Valley. Tell us how you met. We met on a blind date through the efforts of a friend of Ben s and the friend s girlfriend. It was a casual encounter resulting in sixty five years of marriage as of last Valentines Day. How long have you been members? We joined in 2000, so 17 years. What kind of Airstream do you have? Have you ever owned any other trailers/airstreams? In the early years our recreational vehicle/equipment consisted of a 1950 Plymouth loaded with two surplus government issued shelter halfs which, when buttoned together, formed a very small tent; an air mattress, a two-burner Coleman stove, Ice chest, etc. In 1971 We purchased a Kit trailer. Later we acquired a 24 ft Terry trailer. In 2000 we bought a used ft Airstream from a member of the local Airstream unit. In 2002 we purchased our current 31 ft Excella Airstream. Why did you join/who asked you to join the club? One day while returning my Terry trailer to the storage area I encountered a gentleman by the name of Bill Grange doing the same thing. I told him if he ever wanted to sell his Airstream to please give me a call. Three months later he called and the rest is history. What have been your favorite trips/rallies as a part of the club? Tough question so many! However, memorable moments include the 2007 North Idaho Caravan, Steens Mountain Rally, Bozeman MT International Rally, and the two Oregon Coast Caravans. Thanks for the memories. What is the most interesting place you ve visited (can be a field trip experience that was part of a rally) as part of a trip/rally? The Maple Leaf Caravan involving the Canadian Provinces of Alberta and British Columbia. Any places that we haven t gone as a club that you would recommend to others (campgrounds, parks, etc) Glacier National Park, Zion National Park, Yellowstone National Park. 4

5 by Marilyn Usselman The warm May weather that opened our Silvers 2017 Olympics Buddy Rally was so welcomed a>er a cold start to the month. CounAng Buddies with SOBs (some other brand of RV) and Unit 35 members we had 26 folks gathered for food and fun at the River's Edge RV Park in Wilder, ID on May The Ostyn's son and family were our Buddy guests. As folks arrived throughout Friday, we assembled a delicious potluck supper with foot long hot dogs and visited in the grassy area overlooking the Snake River where we had wonderful views of nature, birds and large shade trees. Saturday morning started with a biscuits & gravy and fruit breakfast. The members then joined together down near the river for our Olympic games. A>er the Olympic torches were lit, three teams were formed: the Bullets, the Silvers and the Rivets. The teams paracipated in games such as egg toss, disc throwing, marshmallow golf, cup stacking, cookie stacking, towel volleyball, and the ever hilarious washer- down- your- drawers and panty hose golf. A>er all paracipants received their Gold, Silver or Bronze medals, the torches were exanguished by designated sharp- shooters with water pistols. Everyone was a winner! And team spirit ruled! We enjoyed a do- it- yourself sandwich lunch with the fixins that a>ernoon. We also assembled our Parts, Pieces and Book Exchange; items from home that were brought to trade, sell or donate. Especially popular were the items related to Airstreams or the club. Le>over items were donated to the Homedale Senior Center thri> store. The beauaful day le> Ame for everyone to mingle, walk the beach, nap, visit or catch a fish. Our Becy Burke caught a very fine smallmouth bass which she cooked for us to taste. Going to nearby Alejandro's Mexican Restaurant for dinner was enjoyed by everyone. A>er a potluck breakfast Sunday, members visited and enjoyed the sunshine. Before heading home all of us looked forward to a delicious BBQ lunch with hamburgers and hot dogs provided by River's Edge RV Park managers, Turk and Megan. They were helpful and so gracious to us through the planning and implemenang of our weekend! Thanks to all for bringing used eyeglasses and aluminum can tabs that will be taken to the internaaonal rally. Rally hosts Duyane and Judy Canada and co- hosts Tom and Marilyn Usselman would like to thank you for a large turnout of folks that are so willing to help out and have a good Ame together. AUGust 18th-22nd We ve had great response and only have a few sites left for trailers 24 or smaller. We are hoping Smiley Creek RV Park will find more space for our rally. We hear indications that this will be an intense weekend in Stanley! Two pair of eclipse glasses will be provided. We are planning to build pinhole viewers too. If you want to photograph the eclipse, protective lens covers are strongly recommended. Check the web for recommendations. There is a lot of information available for viewing preparations. Looking directly at the sun can be dangerous, especially thru camera or telescope lenses. As we are preparing, I read a suggestion to practice for the eclipse by taking photos of the full moon. You will be ready to take better photos. 9
