We are happy to have you as our guest during your years of study. Please read the following information and the house rules carefully, it helps making your lif e easier and settling down in your new home. Our residence is offering a number of amenities like Sauna, Sanarium, steam bath and fitness room with solarium, guest lounge, studying rooms and rehearsal room, bike storage room, internet as well as cable-tv without additional charges. Furthermore each room will be cleaned once a week. Therefore it is obvious to take care of some restrictions and the house rules! This should make the common live of around 300 students easier and guarantee a pleasant stay for everyone. Following you find the important information. 2 I. Additional information about the house and daily routines 1. Opening hours of the administration office If you have any questions, suggestions, wishes or complaints, we will be at your disposal. You can find the opening hours on the office door and on the following website: => Wien 1050, Spengergasse. Please note that we don t provide any porter or reception service. That means you can only reach us during our office hours. During weekends the office is closed. Individual appointments beyond the office hours are possible but have to be made personally, via telephone or mail before. In urgent cases you can reach us under the number or via the address spengergasse@stuwo.at. For written reports you can use the administration mailbox right next the glass door. Outside the office hours please contact our maintenance supervisor, Dr. Höfler. You can find next to his working room an information board in the basement of stair 2. The information board will be checked on a regular basis (even on weekends) and you can leave your notes there. You can also send us an information about defects via stuwonet (see below). 2. Permisses and keys All staircases can be entered through the courtyards or the garage. In each staircase you can find an elevator. Your residence key is locking the following public areas: main entrance, small door next to the garage, bike storage room, laundry, fitness room, sauna and steam bath area and your mailbox, your room and the food locker in the kitchen. You must not hand out your keys to any third party. In case you lost your keys you have to contact the administration immediately. Costs for broken or lost keys and thereby emerging costs for new lockers have to be paid by you. For your own security you have a safe in your room. How to use it: Think of a code (number-combination). It shall contains three numbers at the least, eight at the longest. Open up the safe (shall be open) Press the red button on the inside next to the hinges of the safe-door. Three noises will be heard and the yellow LED flash up/illuminates. 3 Enter your combination selected before and confirm with the button B. Afterwards the green LED flash up and affirms the effective coding. How to open up the safe: Enter you code and confirm with B The green LED illuminates and you have 5 seconds to open the safe, with the rotary handle. 3. Room number and telephone The numbering of the rooms sounds quite complicated, but it is easy to explain: The first place is the staircase (1-2), The second place is the floor (1-9), The next 2 places are the consecutive room numbers on the staircase, The last place is the place in the room (apartment; 1 = left, 2 = right). With the telephone in your room which is also part of the intercom system you can be reached from outside/extern every time. Please find your telephone number directly on the phone. For making calls outside you need a phone card which you can get in two special offices (see paper in the info center). Intern phone calls to other rooms can be made just dial the last three numbers of their phone number. Also the office downstairs can be called that way ( ). Visitors can dial your phone on the intercom system at the main entrance and will be directly connected to your room telephone. The room numbers are listed in the intercom system at the door. 5 7. Post In case you are not present, we are happy to receive your post for your. Excluded are packages where charges have to be paid. In case we receive a parcel for you, you will be notified with a short note on your mailbox. You can pick up your post in the administration office during opening hours. In case you are not able to pick up you parcel during these times, please contact us via telephone. We can not deliver packages directly in your room. The next post station is in Jahngasse Network and internet In dorm Spengergasse internet access is available with WiFi or with ethernet cable. Important: Your computer must be configured so that the IP address is detected automatically (DHCP). When triying to reach internet you will be redirected to the registration page To share the bandwidth fair to all users the down- and upload is limited to 50 GB/month per user. If the data limit is exceeded the down- and upload-speed on network socket in your room will be automatically reduced to 3 Mbit/sec. until the end of the month. If receiving an upload from 15GB your port will be locked (you can check the data volume at Service is out of order). Please pay attention to programs like Drop-Box- or torrents-programs. Those costs enormous upload volume. (You can limit them to a certain upload limit). Please note that the internet is set up for university purposes and that we can t support file sharing. Please note, that skype and youtube needs a lot of your up- and download volume! In case you have any questions, please contact the network administrator. 9. Heating and airing All windows in the rooms are equipped with an automatic fresh air supply. Therefore please make sure that your windows are closed in case you are leaving the room (please also check the hostel statute). During winter season Information sheet Spengergasse Page 5 of 10

6 we recommend to air your room approximately 3 times a day for 5 to 10 minutes, and keep the windows closed the rest of the day. None of the bathrooms in our hostel Spengergasse has a window. When switching on the light next to the door, the ventilation will be started automatically. After using the bathroom you can keep the ventilation on and switch off the light directly on the lamp. In case of massive steam it will help to rinse the shower with cold water. 10. Laundry You ll find the laundry in the cellar of staircase 1. For using the machines you ll need a bankcard with quick.-chipfunction OR you can get just a quick-chip-card for 10,-- deposit in the office. A washing or drying process costs about 1, Sauna, sanarium, steam bath, solarium and fitness room You ll find the fitness room and the sauna in the cellar of staircase 2. The fitness room is open the whole day (Please keep the nighttime peace). The opening hours of the sauna are written on the door and in the info center! In case you want to use the sauna or the steam bath, please note that due to security reasons minimum a second person has to be present. The therefore installed emergency call facilities are exclusively for emergencies! We have a limited number of lockers available. Therefore please don t block any lockers if not necessary if you don t use the sauna, samarium or steam bath. Token coins for the solarium cost 5,00 for 10 minutes and are available in the administration office. Insurance To get a contents insurance is not necessary. If you only announce the student s hostel as second residence, the parental insurance / insurance of first residents could count for your room here two, please inform yourself at your insurence (but not with foreign residence!). 7 II. Supplements & Additional information to the dormitory rules Smoking is forbidden in the whole house! Smoking is not allowed per law in all public places of the hostels. Smokers have the possibility to use the dedicated smoker areas in the courtyard as well as on the terraces. The handover of keys or rooms to another person is not allowed. Loosing the key has to me told the management immediately. Costs arising through the loss of the key (re-order of the key, changing closing system) will be charged to you. Taking over the key through third parties can only be accepted in exceptional cases and only with a written confirmation. When moving in or out, the room will be inspected together. In case there is any repair work necessary, this will be documented in the protocol. In case there are any costs you have to pay, we want to discuss this with you personally. For movings you have to arrange individual appointments with the hostel administration. Movings are not possible Mondays to Thursdays after 5.00 p.m, Fridays after 2.00 p.m and on weekends. Please have in mind that by internal moving another additional cleaning has to be done. Therefore we take 50,-- service charge. The weekly cleaning of the rooms will be organized by a periodical cleaning plan. This weekly professional cleaning donme by our cleaning staff is due to the contract with you binding. The valid schedule is available in the information center. Our cleaning team will try to respect your needs and preferences. But please make sure that nothing is strewn at large to make the work for our cleaning personal easier. Our cleaning staff is also directed to close open doors after cleaning without exception also if they were open before. It should be obvious that public facilities especially the kitchen have to be left clean after using it. We are providing high-quality equipment and want to ask you to make sure that this will stay in good shape. Please note that you must not remove any equipment from the kitchen. Cleaning the dishes has to be done by yourself. We also appreciate if you clean the table after your meal. In your own interest, you should check your kitchen locker regularly for corrupted food and remove it if necessary. Our cleaning team is also asked to remove any corrupted food especially during the holiday season. In case of pest infestation, the costs for the pest control will be charged to the causer. In case you need to empty your rubbish bin several times a week, please note that we separate waste in our hostel Spengergasse. This means that plasctic, paper and glass will be collected separately. Please use the dedicated bins in the rubbish room. Visiting sauna, sanarium and steam bath is only allowed with two persons minimum! You are not permitted to have any pets in our student hostel Spengergasse. This also includes small animals like Fishes (= NO aquarium, terrarium, aquaterrarium), hamsters, mice, spider or any similar creatures. The deposing of bikes in the hostel is ONLY allowed in the BICYCLE-ROOMS (in the garage). The deposing of bikes in the entry area, the inner cort, the floors and rooms is NOT ALLOWED. 8 III. Appendix and information for the hostel statute** When signing your contrict with us you agreed on the rules of the hostel statute. Here you find some more additional information, especially for paragraph IV, 1-15: Every resident is liable for self-caused damages. For damages in double rooms, both residents are liable for the same part in case it is not possible to identify the causer. This is also valid for any public areas. In case there are any damages in public areas and the causer can not be identified, we reserve the right to charge the whole community. Please have in mind that you do not onlöy have active rights and dutiers but also passive ones. We therefore say that you should also inform your neighbores if they break a rule. If the person continues to misbehave you have the opportunity to tell the management! 1. Nighttime peace (point 3., paragraph. IV) We ask you to respect the night time peace between p.m and a.m. During this time avoid any unnecessary noise and keep your TV and radio devices at a proper volume level. 2. Visitors and obligation to register (point 15., paragraph. IV) Don t forget after your moving in about your obligation to register with the police. Registration forms, which have to be signed by the administrator, are available in the administration office. Further information is also available on the intranet. Bezirksamt Margareten - 4. und 5. Bezirk / Registration office 4th & 5th district AT 1050 Wien, Rechte Wienzeile 105 During the day you can welcome guests at any time but please don t forget to show consideration for your room mate. In case someone will stay overnight this has to be registered every time at the administration office. You can register guests either via mail to spengergasse@stuwo.at or in a list in the administration office. Overnight guests are only allowed for maximum 3 nights for maximum 1 person. (Austrian registration law!) The Austrian Registration Act requires that you have to register at the Municipal District Office (= Magistratisches Information sheet Spengergasse Page 8 of 10

9 Bezirksamt) within 3 days after moving in. When moving out you have to de-register likewise within three days prior to or after moving ATTENTION: If you have a secondary residence, it is not de-registered automatically with it. Even if you just move to another room you have to de-register and register in time with the authorities reporting the new room number. Not complying with the residence reporting requirements carries a penalty - see the Austrian Registration Act 1991, 22 (1): Strafbestimmungen 22 (1)* Wer die ihn treffende Meldepflicht nach den 3, 4, 5 oder 6 nicht erfüllt oder eine Anmeldung vornimmt, obwohl keine Unterkunftnahme erfolgt ist oder eine Abmeldung vornimmt, obwohl die Unterkunft nicht aufgegeben werden soll oder bei einer An-, Ab- oder Ummeldung unrichtige Identitätsdaten ( 1 Abs. 5) angibt oder als Inhaber eines Beherbergungsbetriebes oder als dessen Beauftragter Gästeblätter unvollständig ausfüllt ( 7 Abs. 5), gegen die Vorschriften des 10 Abs. 1 oder 6 über die Führung der Gästeblattsammlung verstößt oder der Meldebehörde oder einem Organ des öffentlichen Sicherheitsdienstes trotz Verlangens nicht Einsicht in die Gästeblattsammlung gewährt oder als Meldepflichtiger gegen seine Verpflichtung nach 12 Abs. 1 verstößt oder als Unterkunftgeber gegen seine Verpflichtung nach 12 Abs. 2 verstößt oder gegen 16a Abs. 5a verstößt, begeht eine Verwaltungsübertretung und ist mit Geldstrafe bis zu 726 Euro, im Wiederholungsfall mit Geldstrafe bis zu Euro, zu bestrafen. In Fällen der Z 8 kann neben der Verhängung einer Geldstrafe auch über den Entzug der Abfrageberechtigung gemäß 16a Abs. 5 für die Dauer von höchstens sechs Monaten erkannt werden, wenn dies erforderlich erscheint, um den Betroffenen von weiteren gleichartigen Verwaltungsübertretungen abzuhalten. Please note: The registration form can be found and printed online. You further need the signature and company stamp of the landlord, the STUWO AG, which you get at our administrative office. You don t need a confirmation of the landlord for de-registering. 3. Fire prevention In our house we have (almost) exclusively fire doors. Also your room doors are. Fire doors have to stay closed. Blocking doors with wedges or anything else are in case of fire lethal. Also taking the doors off its hinges is not allowed and can be prosecuted in case of damage. For illegal or randomly triggered fire alarms the causer has to pay full costs for the fire brigade and the police. For triggering illegal the internal housealarm you will be charged 50,-. In case of anonymous alarms, the costs have to be paid by the hostel representatives! In case of recurrence, the administration reserves the right to cancel the contract with the resident! 10 4. Hostel representatives Especially important for the protection of your interests in the hostel is the hostel representation. The representatives are responsible to organize a active, social life in the hostel as well as represent you as resident against the hostel administration. Every year in autumn, minimum 3 people out of all residents are elected by the residents. More information will be available on the intranet. The current representatives want to inform you about the Facebook-Group Studentenheim Spengergasse. You will find many information from other inhabitants concerning the house and operations going on in the house. *with signing contract and moving in protocol you confirmed also to accept the house rules.
