1 HAVING ONE of our silly conversations in the shop last year, we decided to have a competition to see where and how far our eco-friendly bags for life could travel. As an incentive, a small prize would be put up, yours truly being the sole judge and jury. What a response! I was thinking perhaps Oxford Street or even a trip to the Isle of Wight, WRONG! Our Manor Farm Meats bags have travelled the length and breadth of the UK from John o Groats to Lands End, deepest Wales, to the Isle of Lundy. Worldwide they have been photographed on every continent apart from the Isle of Wight! Europe, the Americas, Australia, Africa, India, China and the Isle of Man - a near impossible task to judge. Chocolates and champagne go to this year s winning entry - the Hyde family from Barford St Martin for taking their Manor Farm Meats Eco friendly bag for life for a walk along the Great Wall of China. Runner up: posh chocolates go to Diana Clarke, formerly of Wilton, for the wonderful holiday she gave our Eco bag touring India. I have decided that a third prize has to be given for a photo of New business group progresses JOINT CHAIRMEN of the newly-formed Wilton & District Business Chamber, David Parker and John Holt, pictured left, had lunch with Lord Bath at Longleat on January 15 and met other chamber organisers in the area. The criteria is originality and wacky, not just distance travelled. We are hoping to display all the photos in our yard once the weather improves. To mark the occasion, bank staff held an open event at the branch on January 5, with drinks and nibbles from 5pm to 7pm. It was informal but a good chance for the bank and businesses in Wilton to share their commitment to the town. 2 Staddle stones stolen STADDLE STONES were stolen from an address near Dinton. They are stone columns on top of which sits a second circular stone so that, together, they look like a mushroom, usually a couple of feet high. They were originally used to elevate barns from the ground so that vermin could not enter and eat the grain etc. Nowadays, they are ornamental and often seen lining driveways of mainly rural properties. With four reported incidents across Alderbury and Wilton sections, the offenders are not shy and have been known to go well onto a property to steal these items worth 100s each). The offenders were using something like a sack trolley to remove the stones and have takneed a substantial vehicle to carry them away. We know of one incident between 5pm and 9pm so they are active when people are still around and about. To help prevent these incidents, paint your post code and house name or number under the rim of the top stone. In addition, take some detailed photographs as this will help to ID any found. Any ideas of who these people are, please get in touch 0845 peter. jung@wiltshire.pnn.police.uk or anonymously on Crime-stoppers Many thanks, PC Pete. Winterbourne Stoke suffers from slow internet speeds because it is commercially unviable for BT to invest in infrastructure. It is also feared the area will miss out on Governaccess to 90% of the country by Stonehenge Broadband wants to secure European Union funding that will allow residents and businesses in Winterbourne Stoke to access higher speed internet. The village could act as wider area. Local Lib Dem MEP Graham Watson is backing the plans and urged Winterbourne Stoke residents to register support. He said: This community-led should support. It will create opbusinesses in the area and get our rural areas connected. Before an investment is made, residents from Winterbourne Stoke need to back the bid.
