FREE COAL INTENT ISSUE: 42 It was with a keen eye that community members might have noticed the Application for Retention Licences in the Yarram Standard on November 20 th Unless one actually understands what they are reading, then little attention would ordinarily be paid. Community members need to be aware that in fact two such notices were advertised for the Gelliondale and Yarram districts. The Gelliondale application by Gelliondale Resources Pty Ltd covers approximately 7,002 hectares whilst the Yarram application, by Greenmount Sustainable Energy Resources Pty Ltd is 8,348 hectares. It is important to understand that Retention Licences are an intermediate licence between an Exploration Licence and Mining Licence. A Retention Licence does not exceed a period of ten years, however the mining company may apply for a further two extensions potentially tying up that land for the next 30 years. Upon enquiry with Gelliondale Resources Pty Ltd regarding the mineral resource that is being explored, Mr Dane Stewart, Manager of Resource Development advised exclusively coal. He further advised that whilst he appreciates it is very early days, he is more than happy to meet in the New Year and answer any questions we may have. The likely works proposed with the Retention Licence involves Exploration - drilling sampling, excavation of costeans or pits, surveying; Environmental - groundwater monitoring, heritage surveys and environmental impact assessments; Mine planning - geotechnical investigations, feasibility assessment; Engagement consultation with the local community, indigenous, government and other stakeholders. Objections to these applications must be made within 21 days of the advertised application. It is important that everybody actually understands the long term consequences of such activities and whilst the advertised gelliondalecoal.com.au website has just come online, community member are encouraged to visit that and communitiesovermining.org to understand the other side of the story.

He again pulls him out of the water and asks again, 'Have you found Jesus my brother?' The drunk again answers, 'No, Ah havnae found Jesus.' By this time the preacher is at his wits end and dunks the drunk in the water again ---But this time holds him down for about 30 seconds and when he begins kicking his arms and legs he pulls him up. The preacher again asks the drunk, 'For the love of God have you found Jesus?' (Are you ready for this????) The drunk wipes his eyes, catches his breath and says to the preacher, "Are ye sure this is where he fell in"? This newsletter is supported by, The Wellington Shire Council An elderly lady was standing at the railing of the cruise ship holding her hat tight so that it would not blow away in the wind. A gentleman approached her and said, "Pardon me, madam.. I do not intend to be forward but did you know that your dress is blowing up in this high wind?" "Yes, I know," said the lady. "I need both my hands to hold onto this hat." "But madam, you must know that you are not wearing any panties and your privates are exposed!" said the gentleman in earnest. The woman looked down, then back up at the man and replied, "Sir, anything you see down there is 75 years old. I just bought this hat yesterday!" 2 TATTLER ADVERTISING The Port Albert Tattler has been created to allow local Community members to have a voice. 3 Port Albert Tattler Lorem Ipsum Dolor PROGRESS NEWS Port Albert Progress is gearing up for the next big event, Australia Day, Picnic in the Park. The proposed venue is Rutter Park however, this is subject to Wellington Shire approval. Details should be confirmed soon! The Port Albert Australia Day is fast becoming a well loved annual event celebrating what it means to be Australian. Zorb balls, giant slide and Chair-o-plane will be in attendance as well as music throughout the day. The Make It, Bake It, Grow It & Collectables Market will be held at the Port Albert 10am. Stall Holders are being sought. Should anybody be interested in helping then please let us know at the next meeing. Memberships are now $5.00 for the 2013/14 year. Copies are available at the public notice section of the General Store. New members are welcome. Next Meeting is Tuesday, December 17 7pm. This will include Christmas drinks! PORT ALBERT TO SALE BUS The lack of public transport to Sale creates the feeling of isolation for many residents including visitors. This matter has been raised with the Wellington Shire who have advised that this issue was addressed in the past to no effect. Upon enquiry, it was approximately ten years ago! Much has changed in this area in that time and it is believed that as the population is ageing and the children are growing, this needs to be looked into again. A bus service to Yarram was identified in the Port Albert/Langsborough Community Plan however, a service to Sale was also raised. It is felt by addressing one, then the other can be included. Feedback is needed from the community and local groups regarding this matter. It is anticipated that the Wellington Shire will hold a forum in early Any comments can be directed to Port Albert Progress members or to portalbertprogress@gmail.com. It is essential that we have community support/feedback if we are to pursue this matter on the community s behalf. RUTTER PARK Issue [#] :: [Date] Most of you will be aware that a small survey was conducted regarding the Wellington Shire s proposal to move the RV 24 hour camping area to the end bordering Rutter Park. Progress put forward a proposal to use some of Rutter Park for this area. Responses that came back were promising with 40+ responses received. All bar 2 did not like the Wellington Shire s proposal and 1 requested it be left where it currently is. The remainder supported the Rutter Park idea. These results have been forwarded to the Wellington Shire for their further information and action. PORT ALBERT RURAL LIFESTYLE LOTS REVIEW The Wellington Shire has advised that a copy of the draft brief is not far away from being finalised. It will then be forwarded to Progress for our input prior to being sent out to tender HALLOWEEN DISCO It was with much surprise and appreciation that Woolworths, Yarram donated goods to the Port Albert Progress Association for next year s 2014 Kids Disco. Feedback of the disco afternoon has been much appreciated and all thus far has been good! Due to the success of the event, Port Albert Progress has included a kids disco in its Tarra Festival Easter proposal to the Tarra Festival organisers. The disco will be held on Good Friday. Stay tuned for more information in 2014! BUMPER STICKERS Bumper stickers are still available. All proceeds go directly to the cost of producing them. 4 Port Lorem Albert Ipsum Dolor Tattler [Issue] :: [Date] CREATIVE PLACEMAKING The Wellington Shire recently held a Placemaking Workshop held by Gilbert Rochecouste from Village Well that proved to be a dynamic and inspiring session indeed for those that attended. Unfortunately, there were too few from this area. As a result of feedback from the group regarding Port Albert two proposals are on the list for follow up in The Maritime Memorial (grant application is currently underway) and improvement of the water tower. Funding is available for both ideas, subject to approvals by all authorities. The idea is to make all parts of Port Albert interesting and fun. It is hoped that the Wellington Shire will hold this workshop again in As word spreads, one can be assured it will be a well-attended opportunity full of great ideas! Now offering Thursday Night Pizza LIGHT UP PORT ALBERT The Port Albert Progress Association wanted to bring a little bit of fun to the residents and visitors of Port Albert. It is therefore calling upon all locals to join in the festive spirit and put a little bit of light in their front gardens, windows or verandahs to show Santa where he needs to land for Christmas night! It is also hoped that it provides local families and visitors with a lovely Christmas experience of seeing Port Albert Up in Lights. It is acknowledged that such a request imposes costs on families at this time, so the Progress Association has put up a prize of $ with judging to be conducted between 22 nd 24 th December. So come on and join in the fun!! The Port Albert Progress Association wishes all members, residents and visitors a lovely Christmas and New Year! Stay safe STAR RATING!!!!!" You don t need to know anything about history, just be interested in meeting people and showing them our great Museum. It is very easy to do a half-day at the desk - you will have a committee member to help you and show you the ropes to start you off. And it is a good way to learn about the Port. If you are even slightly interested, drop into the Museum (we are open from to 4 each day), and talk to whoever is on duty. You would find that it is one of the most rewarding ways of contributing to the life at the Port.
