1 thanksgiving A Week To Remember Monday the 19Th of November the Roberts and Troglins started for Lavic Siding east of Barstow to establish camp for our Thanksgiving Day festivities and rock hounding. We were met at camp by Dorothy and Garland Land; and Rob and Evonne Lind from Tucson AZ... then later the Goochs from Oakhurst and Neal and Doris Jacobson arrived. Tuesday we went searching for sites for the field trips, we went to Chambliss for trilobites, hematite, garnet and epidote. This would turn out to be our Friday trip. Wednesday we went to the Cady Mt's, to look for the elusive green jasper. We promptly had three vehicles stuck in the sand and didn't find any green jasper. We then tried plan B in a new location but didn't have any luck in finding new material so we opted for old sites for Saturday trip. Thursday was turkey day. A short trip for Lavic Jasper, and a return to camp for deep fried turkey and all the trimmings provided by many good cooks. Thanks for all the effort extended everyone to make this a good trip. Good rock hounding was had by all on Friday and Saturday with much material collected and good fellowship shared by all. We had approximately 24 plus people attending. Lots of new friends and memories shared around the campfire. Let me know where you would like to go next year.. AL and SHARON TROGLIN 9 MLMS Ghost Sheet DECEMBER 29 TH.MLMS Trip to Shark Tooth Hill! Coalinga is an area of California that was submerged under the Pacific Ocean during the age of dinosaurs, which is why fossils are found in the there. Be sure to contact Mrs. Mendoza to sign up to help with refreshments. If you are looking for something interesting to do during your winter break you might want to consider a trip to the Sierra College Natural History Museum to view some exciting rocks and fossils. Check out our website for additional information on places to visit and future field trips. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and have an opportunity to collect some interesting rocks. Please be sure to bring something interesting to share at the January meeting. Thanksgiving at Lavic Siding On November 21 st Part of our group, the MLMS went down to Lavic Siding for a great Thanksgiving celebration. The drive to Lavic Siding, which is on the outskirts of Ludlow was about 6 hours from Empire. When we got there it was out in the middle of nowhere. There were no towns or cars like you see in Modesto. All you could see is dirt and rocks for miles and miles! After we woke up the next day the club went out to collect garnet, hematite, and jasper. The garnet and hematite were near a mine at the top of a hill. We spent about a half day collecting some awesome looking rocks and minerals. Later we went looking for trilobites; I think most of the fossils were having lunch I just found some great new friends. Would like to give all our field trip leaders a special Thanks and WOW!
