As the year 2014 drew to a close, it was only natural that I reflected on my past year and some of the highlights. What kept coming to mind were the many trips, rides, rallies, and vacations that all revolved around our Goldwing friends. It was a good year for riding even if it did get off to a slow start. Our little chapter continues to grow as does our circle of friends. We say it a lot but then we can never say it enough, and that is what an amazing bunch of bikers we call Chapter C. Our riding destinations have been varied but what seems to be more important is the journey. We all say it s about the journey, not the destination and this could not hold more true for me. I don t think it would really matter where we ended up just as long as we are able to retain the camaraderie and fun factor along the way. We love to tease each other but we all seem to get along great, we can throw together a gourmet dinner for a large group with the contents of our coolers, we have burned more firewood at our campouts than Paul Bunyan ever cut and we can set up camp faster than it takes to chug a PowerAde. We laugh long into the night and then back at it again early in the morning. There is always a pot of coffee somewhere and you can always, always, always count on Ken to bring brownies. This past summer we added Sunday day rides to our schedules and have had a good turnout for all of them with some great destinations. I have probably had more picnic lunches this past year than I have for the past 20 altogether. Some of the lunch locations were so scenic and relaxing that we had to force ourselves to get going. Again, this was another opportunity to get to know some of our new friends better. How does one top a riding season like that. I think we will just have to do it all over again this year and the challenge is to make it better one ride at a time. I am so grateful that we chose to be a part of this dynamic group of motorcycle enthusiasts. It truly has changed our lifestyle and our life. 3 Migration RideDay 4-Polson Mt. to Lewiston Id. Hi my name is Mountie Bear. Those of you who followed Chris&Anne Travels this summer will already know me. For those who didn t, I ride on the luggage rack of Dad s bike. You may think I can only see what happens behind Dad, but just like a real Mountie I have eyes in the back of my head and see everything that happens around me. Let me tell you my version of the goings on during Day 4 of this so called Migration these people took me on. My day started an hour earlier than everyone else s, you see, we crossed time zones the day previous and lost an hour. As we were travelling back across time zones early today the group decided to remain on Pacifc Time for our start time. Kick stands up was planned for 8am and Dad set the alarm for 6am, however, failed to notice his cell/alarm had switched time zones and when he uncovered me and the bike at 5am I tried to tell him he was an hour early, BUT WOULD HE LISTEN? So Mom made him do laundry while she enjoyed her morning coffee. Kinda glad he did that as the aroma coming from the front of the bike yesterday was pretty ripe! Good start to the day!. Uncle Kevan & Auntie Robyn were the designated leaders today and Auntie Robyn was determined to keep everyone on schedule. I could have sworn I heard a whip cracking, then saw it was just an App on her cell phone, but everyone was ready on time even the couple with the huge tent trailer. This couple have a new to them tent trailer and it has a King size bed in it which they seem to have a hard time getting out of in the morning. Don t know what there up to in there cause I m a Mountie not a super-hero but they are always last one s ready in the mornings. The funny old guy riding single and towing a tent trailer even managed to go get breakfast at McDonalds before we left, but did he bring anything back for me? NOT A CHANCE! (grumpy old bugger!)

4 Migration Ride Day continued The temperature was great for riding this morning and with Uncle Kevan & Auntie Robyn in the lead we were soon flying down the highway at the speed limit (+10 mph) At some points during the morning Uncle Kevan was sooo far ahead of the group I thought I saw him catching us up from behind. Cousin Glen & his co-rider Angela were following Uncle Kevan & Auntie Robyn today. Kevan & Robyn don t have a CB radio so Glen & Angela were relaying messages and keeping the group in line and formation with Dad & I bringing up the rear. I think Cousin Glen has something else in his mouth besides his CB mike as whenever he talks Dad asks me do you know what he s talking about? cause we can t understand him, but when Angela talks on the same CB she is crystal clear. I m sure it s got to be Cousin Glen because I ve heard him talking around the campfire at night and others asking the same question do you know what he s talking about? The ride went very smoothly throughout the morning, however, I heard it mentioned that Uncle Kevan & Auntie Robyn had Iron Butts (whatever that means?) and by the second fuel stop Uncle Kevan had lost half of the group he started with. Three bikes (4 people), including Dad & I, had to make an emergency bathroom stop and rejoined the group at the gas station. Cousin Glen could have told everyone where we were but he just has such a hard time making himself understood. We had lunch at the Information Centre at LoLo Pass, man was it hot! I couldn t help but notice that the group split into two separate groups to eat 1.Those riding single 2.Those riding 2 up. What a strange bunch these GoldWinges are. The information Centre is right on the Montana/Idaho border and traveling west from here the sign says Winding Hwy for 99 Miles I could see the grins on Mom & Dads faces getting bigger and bigger with each passing curve. I however felt quite nauseous swaying back and forth for hours!

5 After lunch the single rider they call Brian decided he was going to ride his own ride for the rest of the day and would meet us in Lewiston. Brian is a very quiet fellow, his mancave is not on wheels like everyone elses, he sleeps under a sheet held up by sticks. There were plenty of caves around I just don t understand Brian. Another couple also decided they would ride alone for the start of the afternoon. Friend Terry and his co-rider Donna are very interesting people. I hear Terry telling the rest of the group all kinds of information, he s a walking encyclopedia and Im sure his eyebrows are a built in GPS cause he knows way before the rest of us when we are lost. Donna s job, on the other hand, seems to be to follow Terry around with a roll of Duct tape and stop Terry from getting himself into trouble by imparting toooo much of his knowledge onto the group. We hadn t gone more than a kilometer when the grumpy old guy, passed everyone like they were standing still and we never saw him again until we got to Lewiston. I guess he wanted to ride his own ride as well. Brian stayed well behind and we didn t see him again until we got to the campsite. About 45 miles along the trail we came to an accident scene where a truck had gone into the ditch. We were held up for awhile and Friend Terry& Donna caught up to us and decided we weren t such a bad bunch afterall and stayed with us for the rest of the day. While we waited at the accident scene the gals decided a little Highway Yoga was in order to keep them from taking an afternoon nap. We travelled 417 miles today and by the time we reached Lewiston I know my butt was sore, although the luggage rack on Dad s bike isn t quite as comfortable as a Goldwing seat. Mom was sure enjoying the seat on her new Goldwing but Im sure everyone was suffering from the effects of a long, hot ride. We made a quick stop at the Ralley grounds and had a hot dog and chilli dinner then it was off to Hells Gate Park to set up camp. The day ended with a compulsory game of campfire botchi then everyone slept soundly, I know cause they leave me outside and I can hear ALL the snoring. Submitted by Mountie Bear (Chris Hazlewood)

6 December Happenings Our December meeting was cancelled due to folks just being busy with Christmas stuff. However, Terry and Donna hosted a pot luck dinner at their house on Dec. 5 th with a marvellous turnout of 31 people. Donna was a fantastic hostess, moving around the kitchen like a little tornado getting things organized and all laid out. She also put together a few fun games that we all had a blast participating in. She was certainly testing our GWRRA knowledge with one of the games. The winner(s) of the toonie draw were Donna and Doreen-they decided to split the pot when it got down to the two of them instead of going for just one winner. I think we were all winners that evening with full bellies and lots of laughter. On the 7 th, the rain stopped and the sun came out so Kevan and I took a spin on the bike for 2 ½ hours. It sure was good to get back in the saddle so to speak. As we were riding out of Chilliwack, Kevan spotted Neil pulling his bike out of his garage so we did a u-turn and went back to see if they wanted to join us. Unfortunately it was maintenance time for Neil so we continued on our way. What a glorious day for a ride. There were lots of bikes on the road taking advantage of the break in weather just like us. Hopefully we will have some more days like this over the next few months. Our post Christmas-Christmas Party will be on January 17 th at the Well. Tickets are $25 per person and payment can be made at the Expedia CruiseShipCenters at Southgate Plaza. (Angela and Robyn work here) Mon- Fri 9-5 or Sat Cash or cheques please. Come and join us for great food, entertainment, prizes and dancing. There is a maximum capacity of 40 so get your money in to reserve your spot. The motorcycle show is coming up on the weekend of at thetradex in Abbotsford. Traditionally, Chapter C mans the GWRRA booth on Saturday night of the event and then we all go for coffee at Timmies afterward. Let Angela know if you can put in a little time in the booth. Our purpose is to let folks know that we are out there and what we are all about. Chapter Shirts As most of you know, most of us wear a red chapter shirt to meetings and events. If you would like to purchase a shirt, please let Angela know of your interest. Once we have shirts, we can place an order. I know that there are a few new members that would like shirts. These are a golf shirt style in a moisture wicking fabric with a goldwing embroidered on the front, Chapter BC-C on one sleeve and your first name on the other sleeve.
