Sand sculpting has provided Meg with the opportunity to travel and work alongside international sculptors, whilst continuing her passion and love for painting. After working in the film and television industry for over 20 years, Jino decided to expand his skill set. Not only is Jino now a sand sculptor, he is also a watercolour artist, prop maker and interior designer. This jack of all trades started sand sculpting 24 years ago and has been active in the industry ever since. Peter s first 10 tonne sand sculpture was displayed at the Australian Sand Sculpting Championships here in Surfers Paradise back in Since then Peter has had the opportunity to create sand sculptures both large and small for educational organisations, festivals and events Australia wide. Clive started his career by volunteering at sand sculpting events to improve and perfect his skills. Clive enjoys carving in large scale sand sculpting events, workshops and displays. When he s not perfecting a masterpiece Clive spends his time running his successful landscaping company in the Mornington Peninsula. With a background in graphic design and illustration, Peter started carving in sand as a junior at sand sculpting events back in Since then, Peter has worked steadily around Australia as part of the Sand Sculpting Australia team working at festivals, events, shopping centres and on smaller corporate projects. Whilst studying a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Florida Daniel was asked to sculpt a scale model of the Raymond James Stadium in preparation for the Super Bowl in After its completion he was asked to represent the USA at international sand sculpting competitions. He has quickly established a name for himself which has taken him on countless world tours as a master sculptor. KEVIN CRAWFORD wa, australia DAE YOUNG JI south korea THE SEAHORSE RACES Kevin has been a professional sand sculptor for 37 years and has won over 11 Sand Sculpting World Championships. This multi award winner has worked internationally on large scale projects throughout Europe, Asia, America, Canada, the Middle East as well as in his home country Australia. REBOUND Dae Young Ji is an iconic sand sculptor in South Korea. He majored in sculpture at university and has been working in the art industry since He has participated in sand sculpture exhibitions as well as a broadcast program about sand sculpting and art education in Korea. JIM MCCAULEY tas, australia NATASHA KAMIENSKAIA moscow, russia KING NEPTUNE Jim began sand sculpting in 2001 and has been involved in sand sculpting events throughout Australia ever since. Jim regularly creates displays of his work in his retail business in Launceston and has taught workshops on the magic of sand. NEPTUNE S THRONE Natasha was a high school arts teacher who one day visited a sand sculpture display and fell in love with the unique form of art. Since then, the former teacher has spent her time traveling and improving her sand sculpting skills along the way. 8 9

Explore the precinct to find jellyfish floating in mid-air, an octopus inhabiting an iconic Surfers Paradise building and our family of squid enjoying the sunshine on our award winning beach. These works of magnificent inflatable art will enliven and animate public spaces and natural environments adding colour by day and making Surfers Paradise glow by night! The creative minds of artists Luke Egan and Pete Hamilton from Designs in Air, have once again come together to be part of Sand Safari Back for a third year, their love for experimenting with shape, form and function brings pizazz to Sand Safari with their ever-evolving collection of inflatable art and innovative lighting systems which have been admired across the seven continents of the world. Designs in Air have been creating original inflatable artworks for 20 years. In this time the artists have created hundreds of large-scale public installations, always pushing themselves and breaking new ground with technique and form. Designs in Air has sustained a regular presence on the international music festival circuit, however the pair are best known for their huge outlandish urban interventions under their Street Art monikers of Filthy Luker and Pedro Estrellas. The artists bring the best of both worlds together for us here on the Gold Coast, fusing their colourful inflatable creations with their eye for installation opportunities within the city-scape of Surfers Paradise. LUKE EGAN ARTIST STATEMENT: We love the colourful world of nature and often find ourselves creating inflatables inspired by the creatures of the sea. The weightlessness of the sculptures brought to life with air, the fluidity and movement of the object in the wind, the exotic curves, contours and colours and the magical luminescence of inflatables lend themselves perfectly to the creation of fantastical inflatable sea creatures. We also love the concept of our gentle giants taking over streets and buildings and transforming the urban environment into a dreamlike landscape
