2 Welcome to Activ Recreation 2016 Where our purpose is to provide a better life! Activ Recreation offers support to people with intellectual disabilities 18 years and over wishing to access community activities for social, recreational and respite opportunities. We are confident this brochure has something of interest for everyone. From local day trips, weekends away, to weeklong holidays down south and trips further a field to a variety of destinations including Sunshine Coast, Broome and Sydney. International programmes for 2016 will be offered in the brochure. Whilst our day programmes, Rec Ends, Country Escapes and Summer Camps are coordinated in-house, the Travel Programme will remain a joint project with travelkey, which continues to enjoy its long association with Activ Recreation.Their continued support and dedication in providing innovative and exciting holidays is very much appreciated and we thank them for their continued commitment. We would like to thank our hard working team of Volunteers whose enthusiasm and dedication has enabled the Recreation Department to offer over 500 clients annually a programme. The continued commitment and support of our Volunteers allows Recreation the opportunity to provide an extensive selection of programmes and opportunities. 4 Rec End Programmes 2016 Rec Ends offer participants a variety of activities that run over a weekend. Programmes depart on Friday and return on Sunday afternoon. Activ Recreation continues to offer popular programmes from previous years, along with some new programmes. Where possible, Activ Recreation offers positions on Rec Ends to those with higher support needs. Programme prices include transport, accommodation, meals, support personnel and most activities. Spending money will be required for snacks, souvenirs and any other personal purchases made on the programme. 5 Special Events Weekends 2016 Our Special Events programme coincides with annual events on the Western Australian calendar, such as sports and music festivals. Departures will be either a Friday morning or afternoon depending on the event. Special Events run for the duration of a weekend. Cost includes transport, accommodation, meals, event entry fees, support personnel and some activities. Spending money will be required for the purchase of drinks, snacks and souvenirs. Due to the nature of these programmes, where large crowds may be present, Activ Recreation will be adhering strictly to support ratios and may require extra criteria to be met in order for the activity to run safely and be enjoyed by all. 7 Country Escapes 2016 Discover the delights of regional Western Australia with our very popular Country Escape programmes. Enjoy a variety of cultural, interactive and fun activities which allow you to have an in depth exploration of the area. Country Escapes visit a wide variety of locations from Moore River in the north, Avon Valley in the east and Margaret River down south. These programmes are four days in duration, departing in the morning and returning in the afternoon. The accommodation varies from farmstays, self-contained units and rented homes. Country Escape groups consist of six to nine participants accompanied by support personnel. Together we investigate interstate and international possibilities to offer a wide range of destinations to suit the most avid traveller. Each year we offer hundreds of fun seekers the opportunity to visit destinations such as Cairns, Darwin, New Zealand, Singapore and Hawaii. Our travel programmes offer participants from 1:2 to 1:4 ratios the opportunity to attend one or more of our programmes. Please note that the 1:4 ratio us only available for domestic programmes as we do not have the capability to support the 1:4 position when travelling internationally. * Participants with 1:1 support ratios will be offered a position if Activ Recreation can provide the required resources. Each holiday is individually tailored and detailed information is provided in the brochure. Our 1:1 programme still offers the same opportunities for socialising and recreation as well as a bit of extra attention to making your holiday experience more enjoyable. Activ Recreation now has the capability to help you organise your very own dream holiday for yourself, your family, and/or your support personnel. All you need is your imagination! Tap into the recreation team s expertise and create a personalised travel programme which suits your needs and your preferences. We can help you put together a holiday with as much or as little booked into your itinerary as you wish, to destinations of your choosing, in timeframes you wish to go. With our knowledge of the great places to stay and visit, your opportunities are endless. 24 Summer Camps January 2016 Summer camps are the biggest and most poular annual programmes hosted by Activ Recreation. Each of the two camps, held at Point Peron, run for 5 days in January. The fantastic summer season along with great weather brings exciting, enjoyable, and relaxing times. These camps cater for participants over the age of 18 who require 1:4 or 1:3 support ratios. The summer camps offer different programmes; one being faster paced for the young at heart, and the second being a bit more relaxed and easy-going. We sometimes offer a limited number of places for people who require a 1:2 support ratio, however this depends upon our volunteer availability. Accommodation at Point Peron is dormitory style, in a large camp setting on the beach. Traditionally, activities enjoyed by the participants on camp include swimming, arts and crafts, a disco, visiting local attractions, a restaurant outing, and much, much more! New Volunteers are always welcome to join the Activ Recreation Volunteer Team. As a Volunteer you will provide hands-on practical, social and emotional support to adults with an intellectual disability to ensure they enjoy and get the most out of their holiday and recreation experience. Activ Volunteers come from all walks of life. Volunteering is a great way to become more involved in your community, meet new people and develop your skills. No experience in disability services is necessary; just a willingness to commit your time and energy. On-programme training, accommodation, on-programme transport, activities and all meals are provided for Volunteers when on a programme. Most people are eligible to join the Volunteer Programme. Activ requires that you complete an application and screening process, including an interview, Volunteer Police Check, reference checks and that you are aged 18 or over.
