Turning Space Heritage Into New Enterprise Nicola Musgrove A look at the work done by the European Space Agency s Business Incubation Centre where technology developed for the space industry is transferred into ground based applications. This talk explains how to get access to the available technologies, what support is available, and provides examples of successful companies that have completed the process. Nanosatellites : Enabling Technologies - Dr Katherine Smith The number of satellites under 10 kg mass in Earth orbit has increased dramatically over the last decade. In the main it is due to the rising popularity of Cubesats, but are they to remain in the educational domain, or can disruptive technologies convert these small engineering into a novel platform for industry and scientific research? This talk investigates the role that UK research and industry may play in development of enabling technologies, with particular focus on the potential for orbit maintenance and control. Skylon: Transforming Spaceflight Mark Hempsell SKYLON is a reusable spaceplane that will be able to place 15 tonnes into low Earth orbit. It is planned to be in service in less than a decade. It will transform access to space in terms of cost, reliability and availability. It should trigger a revolution in space activity enabling an expansion of government funded exploration missions and new commercial activity. Other Events Over the Weekend HoliOne - Stanley Park, Liverpool Sat 28th June Thousands of people dressed in white come together to share music, dance and art: Liverpool Science festival - Stanley Dock Warehouse, Liverpool, June25 to July 9. the inaugural Liverpool science festival is being held in the historic Stanley dock warehouse. 30,000 people are expected to attend over the course of the event: Tate Liverpool & Liverpool Biennial: Dazzle ship Tate Liverpool, Albert Dock, L3 4BB. 12 June 24 October. A commission by Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez.
