Delicious Gooey Lemon Butter Biscuits (I made these last week and they are delicious) Ingredients 2 ¼ cups plain flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 225g package cream cheese, softened ½ cup unsalted butter, softened 1 ½ cups granulated sugar 2 tablespoons freshly grated lemon zest 1 ½ tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract Yellow food colouring ¾ teaspoon salt 1 large egg plus 1 large egg yolk 1 cup icing sugar, sifted Method 1. Whisk flour and baking powder in a medium mixing bowl until well combined. 2. In another bowl, use an electric mixer to beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add sugar, lemon juice, zest, vanilla, a few drops of food colouring, and salt, beating continuously until well combined. Add egg and egg yolk, and beat for 2-3 minutes on medium speed, scraping down the sides of the bowl. 3. Gradually add flour, beating on low speed until just combined. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight. 4. Preheat oven to 170C and line baking trays with non stick paper. 5. Roll spoonfuls of dough into balls with your hands, then roll in icing sugar before placing on trays. 6. Bake for minutes, or until biscuits have flattened out and are crackly in appearance on top. Allow them to cool on trays for 10 minutes before gently transferring to a wire cooling rack. Dust with additional icing sugar before serving, and store in an airtight container (in the fridge if you prefer).

The year is flying by. Nullagine has had an influx of people, being tourists and a sorry camp at 1 mile. This week has been so cold, with icy winds whistling through the town. I really feel for these visitors, but fear not, it is predicted to heat up next week. DJ Rev will be here on Saturday afternoon, the 12th August for a fun filled time at Gallop Hall. I m sure the children will be excited about his visit. He puts on the best disco. The Nullagine Market will be held at the front of the CRC on Sunday 13th. The flyers have been out for about a month, so hopefully, we will have lots of stalls. The trading starts at 10:00 am with a set up time of 9:00 am. Stalls are $5.00 each so please bring the money with you. Payment for the stalls will be made to me (Cate) on the day. Looking forward to there being many interesting items for sale. Buyers please bring cash with you for purchases. Congratulations to Biddy and Joe on their Australia Day Awards. Congratulations also to Heinz on receiving his Naturalisation Certificate. Story and pictures in this issue. This was held on 30th June but due to bad road conditions and flooded creeks and rivers, it took until then for The Shire of East Pilbara staff to be able to get to Nullagine to present them. Cate Clancy, Coordinator, Nullagine CRC.

The Marble Bar CRC using the free Westlink broadcasting service, available to all members of the town that utilise the VAST Satellite TV service Channel 602. Held a viewing of You can make a difference (15Mins). A Series about disability and how we all can help people with disabilities live and work in our community. It was an insight into how individuals that have a disability would like to be treated and how we can interact with them in a respectful way. This 15 minute program has been developed to improve customer service for people with disabilities. It will help equip your customer service staff with the necessary confidence and skills to respond effectively to customers with disabilities. It is just as important to get this right with customers with disabilities as with any other customer.

MY GECKO IS PREGNANT This little Gecko has been visiting my bathroom window at night for months now. As soon as I turn on the light I tap on the window and she suddenly appears in readiness for her moth dinner. I say her because it seems that she is now carrying an egg as you can see in the 2 nd photo. She can t be too far off now. I d say only a few more belly warmers with the hair dryer and she ll be making her birthing nest somewhere under a close by rock. I am not a Gecko expert but I think that she might be Tree Dtella. Info below. Tree Dtella - Gehyra variegata The Tree Dtella is a moderately sized species of gecko which is highly variable in colour and pattern. The background colour is usually a shade of brown, grey or blue grey with darker markings in a shade of brown forming a reticulated pattern. In some populations, the darker markings may predominate, leaving the animals with an appearance of having lighter spots or blotches on a darker background. The Tree Dtella has a moderate build and usually grows to around 5cm SVL. Original tails are slender and often longer than the body, but the tail is readily broken and regrown tails are often shorter and much heavier than the originals. Occasionally when a tail is broken, two or more tails (sometimes up to seven!) are regrown at the same time. This species has a large distribution (see diagram) and is often very abundant where it occurs. Reasonably dry forest or woodland habitat is preferred, but they may be found in a range of habitat types including coastal dunes, heaths and rocky outcrops. Tree Dtellas shelter under the bark of trees, under rocks, fallen timber and in rock and wood crevices. They will forage under cover during the day but are strongly nocturnal and come out when it is dark, particularly at dusk and in the early evening, often at surprisingly low temperatures and records exist of animals actively foraging with body temperatures as low as 11 C. They eat small insects, spiders and other arthropods. Tree Dtellas are highly capable climbers and are highly arboreal, mostly foraging in trees or shrubs, but in some areas they have colonised rocky areas with minimal plant cover and in these circumstances they forage on the ground. Tree Dtellas have colonised human settlements in many areas, taking advantage of cover such as letter boxes, in brick piles, the insides of the walls of buildings and debris in peoples' yards. Females lay hard shelled eggs in the spring and may produce two or more clutches per year. Eggs are laid under rocks or in rock or wood crevices. It is quite common for several females to share the same nesting site, which may result in dozens of eggs incubating together. Because they can climb smooth surfaces such as glass and polished wood, and they are very fast moving, Tree Dtellas are not commonly kept in captivity, however, they are easy to care for. They feed readily on commercially produced insects such as crickets and feeder `roaches and they thrive in a very wide range of conditions, particularly in regard to temperature. This hardiness is probably due to their adaptations to the harsh conditions they often experience in the wild.

WHO WAS DES STRECKFUSS? Des was a long term employee with the Main Roads Department, serving them for over 35 years. His main responsibility was to maintain the Marble Bar road which was dirt at that time. It was then called the Great Northern Highway until the bitumen highway from Port Hedland to Newman, through the Munjina Gorge, was constructed and assumed the name. For a long period of time, Des with a small crew of around six men carried out sheeting works with a scraper. They were committed to ensuring that the dirt road remained open, work was finished on time and the quality of the work was maintained. A memorial to Des Streckfuss is located at Gorge Creek on the Marble Bar Road The Des Streckfuss Rest Area. Des Streckfuss Rest Area can be found just off the Marble Bar Road between Port Hedland and Marble Bar; 74 kilometres from Marble Bar and 79 kilometres from the Great Northern Highway junction. SUDOKU A Sudoku puzzle consists of 81 cells which are divided into nine columns, rows and regions. The task is now to place the numbers from 1 to 9 into the empty cells in such a way that in every row, column and 3 3 region each number appears only once.

On Friday 30th June 2017, Lynne Craigie, Shire of East Pilbara visited Nullagine to present 3 Awards to Nullagine residents. Due to bad, wet road conditions over the last few months, the presentation was delayed time and time again, but finally on 30th June 2017, Nullagine finally had it s ceremony. Heinz Prokop received his Certificate of Citizenship. After many years of living in Australia, Heinz has become a Naturalised Australian Citizen. Many people attended this special day, to see Heinz receive his certificate. Waving his Australian Flag, Heinz proudly displayed his award for everyone to see. Congratulations Heinz Joe Zabiela received an Achievement Award, for his services to the public. Many a time, people have been stuck somewhere and Joe has always come to the rescue, whether it be car problems or helping to pull people out of the flooded river. He does not do these things for a reward, but Joe is a person you can count on in times of need. He really deserves the award. Congratulations Joe Biddy Schill received a Citizenship Award for her services to the public over many years. Biddy worked tirelessly in this community and others and achieved the highest level of nursing that anyone can get. Her history, retold by Lynne Craigee was extremely interesting. Another well deserved award. Congratulations Biddy After the presentations, everybody enjoyed the delicious food that was supplied by the Shire of East Pilbara.
The McGowan Government through its Local Projects, Local Jobs Program has awarded the Marble Bar CRC a grant to upgrade our I.T Equipment. With assistance from the Pilbara Development Commission The Marble bar CRC has been able to upgrade all staff computers and repurpose those computers for public use. These computers will run faster after being decluttered and offer a better user experience with all public access computers now touch screen. To minimise impact on the day to day running of the CRC the computers were professionally installed over a weekend by Steve from Montec Network Solutions a local Port Hedland business. The Marble Bar CRC has also been able to purchase a new DSLR Camera package to use for capturing photos for our Mirage Magazine stories and to document any acquittals we may need photographic evidence for. We would like to thank the WA State Government for their ongoing support of Community Resource Centres. This project was Supported by the State Government s Local Projects, Local Jobs program
