3 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY INTRODUCTION Shankar Chandran Managing Director Laguna Lăng Cô As a socially responsible business, Banyan Tree, the developer of Laguna Lăng Cô integrated resort, was founded with the core value of driving sustainable development. Banyan Tree Global Foundation was established in 2009 with the call to arms of embracing the environment and empowering the people. Laguna Lăng Cô, as part of the Banyan Tree Group, has had sustainability at its core since the very first days, from its planning and design to its daily operation. We are proud to be a resort well-known for its socially responsible practices with our wide variety of programmes, from Group initiatives like Greening Communities and Seedlings Mentorship, to Laguna Lăng Cô s own special projects such as the popular English Summer Camp for local children. These longterm programmes not only sustain the resort s position as a leading CSR practitioner in the hospitality industry, but also ratifies Banyan Tree s long-held values of being a responsible world corporate citizen. It is my hope that Laguna Lăng Cô will continue to develop and grow in harmony with the surrounding environment and community where our resort is located, and all these efforts will have long-standing effects in the next ten, twenty years, turning Lang Co into a vibrant and engaged world-class holiday destination in Central Vietnam.

We at Laguna Lăng Cô are committed to be a leader of sustainability in Vietnam s hospitality industry, which is both our ambition and one of our Group s core values. For Laguna Lăng Cô, it is not just a responsibility, but also a privilege and opportunity to embrace our environment and support local communities. Each Laguna Lăng Cô associate, management member, and resort guest is our sustainability ambassador, all playing a key role in achieving great success through our Stay for Good and Work For Good programs. Our achievements in sustainability have been recognized by the local community and government in 2015, taking a lead amongst other enterprises in the region. There are still many missions and challenges ahead; however, with our clear commitments and goals, we are prepared to meet these head on and continue to shape a sustainable future. The continuous satisfaction from our guests, stakeholders, and associates as well as sustainability improvement through these CSR projects remain the measures of our success in 2016, all contributing to build our business growth. 7 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY CSR1 RESOURCE CONSERVATION ENERGY SAVING CAMPAIGN Based on energy consumption facts from Earth Check Benchmarking, the Energy Saving Campaign was to raise associates awareness in saving energy for sustainable development. The campaign used eye-catching posters and stickers to highlight the issue of resource overconsumption and list of tips to guide associates. In April 2015, Laguna Lăng Cô established the Energy Saving Committee to ensure the effective implementation of energy saving. EARTH HOUR During 27th 29th March 2015, Laguna Lăng Cô highlighted sustainability issues by participating in Earth Hour. Hotels guests were encouraged to join this meaningful event by turning off nonessential lighting in certain areas from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. A special fire-lit dinner with no electricity was also organized at Moomba Upper Deck for guests in the evening.

8 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY CSR2 GREENING COMMUNITIES Greening Communities was first launched by Banyan Tree Group in 2007 as a challenge for properties to raise awareness for climate change by planting 2000 trees per year. IN 2015 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ SUCCESSFULLY CARRIED OUT ITS BIGGEST GREENING COMMUNITIES CAMPAIGN, PLANTING 4515 TREES (LOCAL FLAMBOYANT & HOPEA TREES) IN 17 SCHOOLS IN PHU LOC DISTRICT WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF 97 HOTEL GUESTS 255 ASSOCIATES AS WELL AS 1218 LOCAL STUDENTS AND SCHOOL STAFF FUN EVENTS WERE ALSO ORGANIZED TO TEACH SCHOOL CHILDREN ABOUT THE BENEFITS OF TREES AND GREENING. 9 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY CSR3 SEEDLINGS MENTORSHIP Laguna Lăng Cô officially launched its Seedlings Mentorship program on 10th July 2015 HELPING 4 LOCAL STUDENTS with difficult family background and at risk of leaving the educational system to be mentored by 8 qualified Laguna Lăng Cô associates with experience of guidance. The program provides school fees for the mentees new school year, and monthly visits are conducted to guide and inspire mentees in their studies, assisting them with any problem that might hinder their educational path. This long-term project will follow the young students until they reach 18 years old. THE SEEDLINGS MENTORSHIP PROGRAM is a long term commitment of Banyan Tree Group, giving underprivileged youths from years old an equal chance of achieving their full potential in life.

10 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY CSR4 CLEANING COMMUNITIES Every Monday and Thursday, the hotels organize beach cleaning along 3km of Angsana and Banyan Tree s beach, encouraging guests and associates participation. IN 2015 WE COLLECTED 2.5 TONS OF GARBAGE ALONG THE BEACH AND FROM THE SEA.

11 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY CSR5 GUESTS SUSTAINABLITIY ACTIVITIES ENGLISH SUMMER CAMP In summer 2015, Laguna Lăng Cô continued our annual English Summer Camp - Learning English is FUN project which was first launched in 2014 at Binh An and Nuoc Ngot Primary schools. The project strives to improve the level of English proficiency in the community by building up young students passion for learning English through fun games and interactive lessons. THESE WEEKLY CLASSES BENEFITED 180 STUDENTS AGED 7-10 RECEIVING GREAT FEEDBACK AND PARTICIPATION FROM 15 HOTEL GUESTS ALONGSIDE 10 ASSOCIATES WHO WERE REGULAR TEACHERS.

12 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY CSR5 GUEST SUSTAINABILITY ACTIVITIES ORGANIC FARM Laguna Lăng Cô launched its own extensive organic farm in 2014 which utilizes worm farming as the source of nutrition. The fully sustainable 10,000m2 organic farm, situated close to the golf course, is opened with the aim to: Provide much fresher produce for the hotels spa and kitchens with herbs, vegetables and other local plants Be an organic farming model for local farmers Become a destination for cooking classes and fun family ecoexperience for guests DURING 2015, THE ORGANIC FARM WAS PLEASED TO WELCOME MORE THAN 100 GUESTS AND PROVIDE NEARLY 450KG OF HERBS AND VEGETABLE FOR THE HOTELS

13 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY CSR5 GUEST SUSTAINABILITY ACTIVITIES SCHOOL WATER PROJECT As part of the Laguna Lăng Cô Marathon 2015 on October 24th, the Run For Water 5KM run course was organised with the aim to extend Laguna Lăng Cô s long-term School Water Project which provided clean water filtration systems to local schools in Phu Loc district. THE COMMUNITY RUN ATTRACTED 112 RUNNERS FROM DA NANG, HUE, HO CHI MINH, HA NOI, AND OTHER COUNTRIES, AS WELL AS LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ ASSOCIATES; COLLECTING A TOTAL OF 22,027,000 VND WHICH ALL CONTRIBUTED TO A FUND FOR A WATER FILTRATION SYSTEM AT LOC TIEN PRIMARY SCHOOL, ESTIMATED TO BENEFIT 750 STUDENTS IN AT LEAST THE NEXT 3 YEARS.

14 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY CSR5 GUEST SUSTAINABILITY ACTIVITIES SILENT WORLD ART EXHIBITION In April May 2015, Laguna Lăng Cô hosted the art exhibition Silent World - part of a series of exhibitions by Danang Deaf Club with the aim to help disabled young adults reach out to the world and build up their hidden art talents. The exhibition showcased over 40 paintings and calligraphy pieces from 12 deaf and disabled young adults, displayed at Angsana Lăng Cô s hotel lobby. After 1 month of exhibition from 23rd April to 23rd May 2015, 28 paintings, 2 calligraphy artworks and 14 paper fans were sold. BRINGING IN 18,000,000 VND WHICH ALL WENT TO A FUND FOR THE DEVELOPMENT AND OPERATION OF DANANG DEAF CLUB.

15 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY CSR5 GUEST SUSTAINABILITY ACTIVITIES ELDERLY CARE PROGRAM Helping the local elderlies with many activities such as building kitchen, installing water pump and electricity system, waterproofing, as well as bringing donation from our volunteers (rice, milk, bed sheets, noodles, shampoo, etc.) Elderly Care Program was launched by Laguna Lăng Cô on 10th February 2015 with the aim to ensure a warmer home for the local elderlies. IN 2015 NEARLY 150 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ ASSOCIATES AND GUESTS HAVE JOINED THE MONTHLY VISITING DAYS

16 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY CSR6 SOCIAL ENTERPRISE SEEDLINGS RESTAURANT In April 2014, Seedlings started collaborating with local N.G.Os, mainly with REACH a Vietnamese non-governmental organization specialized in vocational training and employment for Vietnam s most disadvantaged youths. seedlingshoian.com /SeedlingsRestaurant Seedlings Restaurant, opened on 26 th April 2013 in the heart of Hoi An Anicent Town, is the first restaurant launched by Laguna Lăng Cô with the aim to provide training and job opportunities for disadvantaged local youths, giving them the necessary life skills to forge successful careers in hospitality. TO DATE, SEEDLINGS HAS REACHED REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENTS: 71 INTERNS AND TRAINEES BENEFITED AND GRADUATED FROM SEEDLINGS INTERNSHIP & TRAINING COURSE 7 TRAINEES TRANSFERED TO LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ FOR CAREER DEVELOPMENT 5 TRAINEES RECRUITED AS SEEDLINGS OFFICIAL STAFF 59 GRADUATED TRAINEES WORKING AT LOCAL RESTAURANTS OR HOTELS & RESORTS Seedlings staff have had major contribution in several of Laguna Lăng Cô s CSR projects, highlighting the restaurant s commitment in giving back to the community (e.g. Cleaning Communities, Run For Water).

17 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY OTHER COMMUNITY-FOCUSED EFFORTS HARBOUR PROJECT On 23rd-27th September 2015, Laguna Lăng Cô CSR supported Harbour Project, led by Ms. Lee Siew Yian - an independent consultant of Banyan Tree Lifestyle - and a group of 5 Singaporean guests, with the aim to support a local widow with 3 young children (the eldest is part of Laguna Lăng Cô s Seedlings Mentorship Program). On 27th September, Harbour Project handed over a brand new house and basic home equipment/amenities to the family who will now no longer have to worry about bad weather and tropical storms.

19 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY BE GOOD PLATFORM BUILD FOR GOOD By launching Build For Good platform, Laguna Lăng Cô is set up to operate efficiently while supporting the community and ecological efforts. From 2013, led by the GPS Development Service team, Laguna Lăng Cô has achieved the EarthCheck Precinct Planning and Design Standard which is in line with Banyan Tree s commitment to continually develop responsibly and sustainably. MEET FOR GOOD IN 2015, LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ HAS BEEN VERIFIED BY EARTHCHECK as a responsible event venue after demonstrating compliance to the EarthCheck program for Banyan Tree event venues based on the criteria of the ISO Standard for Events Sustainability Management Systems. This achievement places Laguna Lăng Cô as a leader in the unique worldwide group of sustainable tourism operators that are able to ensure all events held at their venue are responsible.

20 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY BE GOOD PLATFORM STAY FOR GOOD GREENING COMMUNITIES TOGETHER To celebrate the World Environment Day, Laguna Lăng Cô planted 270 trees in nearby Binh An Primary School and Nuoc Ngot Physical Rehabilitation Social Center in June 2nd-4th. The two days gathered 95 of the resort s associates, local students, and hotel guests as volunteers.

21 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY BE GOOD PLATFORM STAY FOR GOOD FEEDING COMMUNITIES TOGETHER In conjunction with Banyan Tree Group s Stay For Good initiative and World Food Day 2015, Laguna Lăng Cô continued to hold its Feeding Communities Event, in which every guest room night at the resort during the week of World Food Day was turned into one nutritious meal for the local community. This year, the Feeding Communities event was organized on 18th October at the local Phu Loc hospital. WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF 40 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ ASSOCIATES, SERVING UP 200 NUTRITIOUS MEALS COMPRISING PORK CONGEE, BANANA, AND MILK FOR PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES

22 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY BE GOOD PLATFORM DAY 1 2ND JUNE CANH DUONG BEACH CLEANING COMMUNITIES TOGETHER More than 70kg of waste were collected by 22 associates. The effort was highly appreciated by the local community with their support and spontaneous participation. Celebrating Banyan Tree s group-wide Cleaning Communities campaign, Laguna Lăng Cô organized 3 Cleaning Communities events from 1st to 7th Jun at 3 different locations. DAY 2 4TH JUNE BINH AN COMMUNE AND PRIMARY SCHOOL More than 50kg of waste were collected by 26 associates and nearly 100 students from Binh An Primary School. DAY 3 6TH JUNE HOI AN ANCIENT TOWN More than 50kg of waste were collected by 16 associates including Laguna Lăng Cô management and Seedlings restaurant s staff, with the support of nearly 30 trainees from the local REACH organization. Participants also went around the town to meet foreign travelers, creating 4 videos and encouraging 15 tourists to get involved in the event.

23 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY SUSTAINABILITY CERTIFICATION Laguna Lăng Cô has continued our commitment to achieve the best practices in environmental and social sustainability. Since 2013, Laguna Lăng Cô has partnered with EarthCheck to ensure scientifically proven and critically defendable systems towards environmental preservation and conservation across operations. BRONZE EARTHCHECK BENCHMARKING CERTIFICATE In 2016, Laguna Lăng Cô is proud to have achieved the Silver EarthCheck Certification for sustainable environmental development, making it the only EarthCheck-certified resort in Vietnam, strengthening Laguna Lăng Cô s position as a leading sustainable hospitality business after only 3 years of operation. This year, Laguna Lăng Cô has shown improved performance in most evaluated sectors; including energy consumption, greenhouse gas emission, potable water consumption, and waste sent to landfill. 24 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY MEDIA Laguna Lăng Cô s CSR efforts garnered attention and positive feedback from local media in the region to media on a national level for its numerous projects, from the Silent World Art Exhibition with Danang Deaf Club to its Seedlings Mentorship launch, but especially for the 5KM Run For Water as part of the inaugural Laguna Lăng Cô International Marathon 2015.

25 LAGUNA LĂNG CÔ SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY GUESTS AND ASSOCIATES FEEDBACK Ada Lo, PhD Laguna Lăng Cô guest We got the opportunity to join the CSR team to teach in the English summer camp they organized for the children from the village. It was a good experience for my children. They are already asking if they can go back for English teaching again next summer!! They are already planning what they can bring to the children. We also visited the organic farm of Laguna. It was a good learning experience for my city kids where they learn about the worm farm, the different types of vegetables being grown, feeding the goats and rabbits. We also visited the Seedling restaurant in Hoi An. It s really great to see the efforts which the group has put into helping the youngsters who are disadvantaged. My children are now Facebook and friends with Tien which was a seedling member but now employed at the Saffron in Banyan Tree Lăng Cô. Lee Siew Yian Independent Consultant of Banyan Tree Lifestyle I visited and worked with the CSR team on many occasions. I am truly impressed by the engagements at many levels, with so many areas being looked into. The projects made a huge difference to the lives of the community, the environment, and helping the villagers to be sustainable. Thank you for the chance to share the great work, and I look forward to working with the team again to help the local community in the near future. The CSR projects which I participated gave me good opportunities to learn and appreciate what I have right now. I think it will be very useful and nice for other children to have experience like this. Huong Luong Spa CalxBeloved Seedlings Restaurant s guest Seedlings café restaurant was set up to help training the under-privileged to work in the hospitality industry. So while the food is good, patrons also have the opportunity to help the young Vietnamese. Do not miss this place when in Hoi An. Sow a seed, change a life. As a mentor of Seedlings Mentorship program and volunteer in Elderly Care days, I find these such meaningful and humane programs. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to be involved in these great projects. Hang Nguyen Human Resources I think our CSR program is really built upon our core value of supporting the local communities in which we live and work. Our CSR programs give me the chance to contribute my ability to help out local children (English Summer Camp), to protect the environment (Greening Communities), and to share love and care with everyone (Feeding Communities). I really love our CSR activities and I will absolutely be with CSR as long as I could. My Anh Nguyen Training I find our programs very meaningful and helpful for the local community as well as for our company. As a mentor in Seedlings Mentorship Program, I think it is worth supporting our mentees to give them a good education, and I do hope that my mentee Yen will make her dream come true in the future.
