BATES BULLETIN EDITION 12 AUGUST 2015 Our Mudgeeraba Dear Residents Earlier this year, you once again put your trust in me to represent you in the Queensland Parliament and ensure our local area receives the representation it deserves for another three years. You voted for better roads for a growing population, the schools and education our kids deserve, and to make our local area the safest place to raise a family. I will never take your trust for granted, and I have already been working hard to ensure, whether in Government or in Opposition, our community gets the funding, services and infrastructure it deserves. It has been a privilege to work hard for you as your local LNP Member for Mudgeeraba. In my seventh year as your representative, I am proud to say I have not lost sight of what our community needs. I am incredibly humbled by your ongoing support, and I look forward to what lays ahead for our community over the next three years. Yours sincerely Ros Bates MP Member for Mudgeeraba Deputy Chair, Health and Ambulance Services Committee Community Corners Catch up with me at one of my Community Corners from 9.00am to 11.00am on the: 2nd Saturday of each month IGA at The Mill Cnr Somerset Drive and Gemvale Road, Mudgeeraba 2nd Sunday of each month Coles at Worongary Shopping Village Mudgeeraba Road, Worongary 4th Saturday of each month Mudgeeraba Market Shopping Centre Swan Lane, Mudgeeraba 4th Sunday of each month Woolworths Reedy Creek Old Coach Road, Reedy Creek Check my website or Facebook page in case of unforeseen scheduling changes. p ros with supporters p ros with hardworking volunteer Barb Malcolm at the opening of the 55th Parliament p ros at a Community Corner at the Mudgeeraba Market Shopping Centre with Councillor Glenn Tozer Mudgeeraba Electorate Office Ph: Fx: mudgeeraba@parliament.qld.gov.au Shop C7 Mudgeeraba Professional Centre Swan Lane MUDGEERABA 4213 QLD Web: You can follow Ros on facebook.com/ros.bates

ros on the new $155,000 footpath on Gooding Drive, Merrimac Local Road Updates Footpath, Safety Fences and Signage for Merrimac Fences have been installed across the median strip on Gooding Drive outside Merrimac State School to stop students running across heavy traffic to their parents vehicles. The new $155,000 footpath on Gooding Drive between Jura Parade and Mike s Kitchen has been installed after I raised this issue on behalf of concerned locals, meaning residents can now walk along Gooding Drive safely. Signage and revised line markings have been installed on the left turning lane of the Exit 77 southbound M1 off ramp before Mike s Kitchen. Many near misses have occurred as motorists approaching from the roundabout attempt to merge into the left lane as traffic exiting the motorway approaches at higher speeds. new signage secured by Ros for the Exit 77 southbound off ramp before Mike s Kitchen Traffic Relief for Reedy Creek The City of Gold Coast will spend $7.7 million to extend Marchmont Drive in the Observatory to be a direct link to Gemvale Road, next to King s Christian College. Royston Crescent will also be extended to link Bridgman Drive to the newly extended Marchmont Crescent. This means traffic will be able to flow freely between the top of the Observatory, Gemvale Road, and Bridgman Drive, taking significant pressure off of Kingsmore Boulevard and easing congestion at our roundabout on Old Coach Road. This project will achieve practical completion mid M1 Upgrade Complete The southbound widening of the M1 between Exit 79 at Mudgeeraba and 82 at Robina was completed earlier this year, six months earlier than expected. The northbound section will be upgraded as part of a future upgrade of Exit 82 to Exit 85 at Reedy Creek, which is the next upgrade I am fighting to deliver for our local area. Safer Roads Sooner for Springbrook Safer Roads Sooner projects for Springbrook are underway, with a $1.1 million upgrade of an 800 metre section of Gold Coast- Springbrook Road near Monaro Road completed in late May. This project included a section of sealed shoulder widening, tree and vegetation clearing as required, and the installation of guardrails and guide posts. A $269,000 project to install guardrail and rub rail (for motorcyclist s safety), guide posts and curve advisory signs on a section of road approximately 1.5 kilometres before the Wunburra Lookout will begin in the second half of p ros solving Reedy Creek traffic issues with Councillor Daphne McDonald Worongary Creek Floodway Upgrade Complete The $2.36 million upgrade of the Worongary Creek floodway is now complete. This means in the event of flooding during severe weather, residents of Tallai, Gilston and Worongary will no longer be cut off. ros at the upgraded Worongary Creek floodway p ros with Scott Buchholz MP, Federal Member for Wright inspecting a newly upgraded section of Gold Coast-Springbrook Road Noise Testing for The Glades Noise testing on the M1 is underway six months early to address the concerns of The Glades residents. As part of this process, tests are being conducted to determine whether appropriate noise attenuation measures are required.

Flashing School Zone Lights for Mudgeeraba and Springbrook Flashing school zone lights have been installed at Mudgeeraba State School on Rainbow Drive and another set will be installed at Springbrook State School on Springbrook Road in September, enhancing student safety. I have asked TMR to install flashing school zone lights at Merrimac State School on Gooding Drive. Beechmont Road Update I am fighting to upgrade Beechmont Road after widening the section between Elimbah Court and Jardine Road was identified as the community s next major road safety priority. Unfortunately, the Government has already confirmed upgrading this road is not a priority after I wrote to them earlier this year. Instead, they promised to investigate installing line markings, despite already knowing the road is too narrow for line markings to be installed. The only funding secured for Beechmont Road upgrades has come about as a result of pressure I have put on former Governments. $11.4 million of funding has been fought for and secured for upgrades since I was elected in Prior to my election, no funding was allocated to upgrade Beechmont Road. Traffic Relief for Carrara, Merrimac and Robina The Carrara roundabout at the Gooding Drive, Nerang-Broadbeach Road and Robina Parkway intersection will receive a $5 million upgrade as part of preparations for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. The mammoth upgrade, first announced by the former LNP Government in January, will include the installation of an additional slip lane, improved signage and the groundwork for future signalisation in a project I have been fighting for since The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is considering installing traffic signals as part of TMR s Safer Roads Sooner program for at the intersection of Gooding Drive and Palm Meadows and Lakelands Drives, Merrimac. p ros at the soon to be upgraded Carrara roundabout on Gooding Drive LAW & ORDER Update Graffiti Prevention on the M1 Trees have been planted along the M1 between Exits 77 and 75 to prevent graffiti on this section of the motorway. Graffiti has decreased year on year since I have been your local Member, and these trees will add another deterrent for vandals. p ros inspecting newly planted trees along the M1 near Exit 75 Train Stabling Facilities for Robina As part of the former LNP Government s expansion of the rail network to cater for increased demand, $14.7 million will be spent to build new stabling facilities at Robina train station to house new trains. The new facilities will be equipped to cater for four six-car trains. Mudgeeraba is one of the top ten most Neighbourhood Watch friendly suburbs on the Gold Coast. We have established new Neighbourhood Watch groups after break and enters and criminal motorcycle gang activity in Reedy Creek, as well as hooning in Lower Beechmont. We have hosted the first meetings of these new groups. If you would like to get involved, please get in touch. p ros on site discussing road issues at Beechmont Road with Jon Krause MP, Member for Beaudesert ros discussing law and order issues in Mudgeeraba with the Shadow Minister for Police I hosted the Shadow Minister for Police in our local area so he could meet with our Police and see firsthand some of the law and order issues in our community.

StrengthenING Our Community School Visits to Parliament This year, I have continued my tradition of inviting the Principals of our local schools to accompany their student leaders to Parliament House in Brisbane. Already this year, students from local schools such as Emmanuel College, Somerset College, Mudgeeraba Creek State School, St Michael s College and Robina State High School have visited as my guests. During their visits, the students explore their Parliament, learn about its institutions, have a one on one chat with me, and meet the Speaker, Leader of the Opposition or Deputy Leader of the Opposition. I am looking forward to catching up with more student leaders during the second half of this year. Security Fence for Robina State High School ros discussing school safety with Robina State High School students The safety of staff, students and facilities at Robina State High School has been secured after I ensured security fencing will be installed around the school s perimeter following a series of incidents involving vandalism and trespassing. I was deeply concerned when I heard about the shocking vandalism which caused $280,000 in damage in May, and I am pleased to have worked with the school community to deliver security fencing. p ros introducing the student leaders of Emmanuel College to Lawrence Springborg MP, Leader of the Opposition John Stacey Suspension Bridge In a huge boost for tourism for the Springbrook community, the John Stacey Suspension Bridge is now open to the public. After a $1 million investment from the former LNP Government, Springbrook now boasts a wonderful new tourism attraction in this suspension bridge at the base of Purlingbrook Falls. ros announcing the John Stacey Suspension Bridge with Springbrook locals in early 2014 Funding our Community Organisations Whether in Government or in Opposition, I will always ensure our local area receives the funding it deserves to support the many local organisations and clubs which provide important services for our community. Since being re-elected, I have delivered over $180,000 in funding for local organisations such as the Trinity Family Support Network at Robina, Bonogin Valley Community Association, Mudgeeraba 6 Neighbourhood Watch, Gold Coast and Hinterland Spinners and Weavers Group, Krawarree Project Incorporated, Careflight, Giddy Up Gold Coast, Mudgeeraba Spartans Junior AFL Club, Clover Hill State School P&C Association, Mudgeeraba Show Society and Springbrook Men s Shed. This funding will go a long way to helping these organisations serve our community in a number of areas. ros presenting a $1,250 cheque to Nikki Beaver from the Bonogin Valley Community Association Authorised by Ros Bates MP, Unit C7 Mudgeeraba Professional Centre, Swan Lane, Mudgeeraba, QLD Printed by: Nova Press, 9 Leda Drive, Burleigh Heads, QLD 4220

Pressure from the Opposition has seen the Government re-commit to the LNP s hugely popular Get in the Game program.

Stephen is fighting for a better Burnett. Lawrence SPRINGBORG MP Leader of the Opposition The LNP has a plan for the Queensland economy. Dear Fellow Queenslander A secure future for all Queenslanders relies on a sustainable and growing economy which creates jobs, supports a diversity of industries and is insulated as best it can be from global instability. A sustainable and growing economy doesn t just happen. The LNP has a plan for the Queensland economy that will deliver the security we all want now and into the future. holding the Government to account SCRAPPED vital job-creating infrastructure projects We need a government that has experience in managing the state s economy so that we can invest in the schools, hospitals and infrastructure which support a growing economy. In Government the LNP worked hard to put Queensland s finances back on track, and back in the black after years of neglect by. s decades of unsustainable debt and deficits have left Queensland poorer and less resilient. We ve already seen that Palaszczuk s Government is back to s old ways of debt and tax increases like raising family car registration by 3.5% - well above the inflation rate. has no plan for our economy, no plan for jobs, no plan to grow business confidence and no plan to avoid more debt, higher interest payments and more deficits. The LNP has launched a real economic plan for Queensland s future. It s a clear plan to deliver a growing economy which creates jobs and provides a financially secure future for Queensland. Please visit to see our plan, and to have your say on what s important to you. Yours sincerely Lawrence Springborg MP Leader of the Opposition, and Leader of the LNP DROVE UP the cost of car rego for families by twice the inflation rate SOFTENED stance on crime and criminal motorcycle gangs CANCELLED the successful surgery Wait Time Guarantee RIPPED millions of dollars out of regional Queensland has NO PLAN to create jobs, grow the economy or build vital infrastructure To find out more about our Real Economic Plan visit
