" r "';.' oj.," LEdICoN-F.2/0 II/W.P I 58.'lECAI,LING the definition of the term "from the nearest land" as set out in Annex A(1) of the International Oonvention for the Prevention of Pollution of the Se2 by Oil, 1954 and restated in the amended text of Article I of th(~ Convention as adopted by the Assembly in Resolution A.175(VI) on 21 October 1969, NOTING further thl.1.t Article XVI of the Illt8rn:ltional Convention for the irevention of Pollution (f the Sea by Oil, 1954, ~rovides for procedures fer amendment inv01ving participation by the Organization, HAVIHG CON3IlJ::::HJ.;D the particular qmendments to the International Convention for the ~revention of 2nllution of the Sea by Oil, 1954, ;),8 amended in 1969 by He solution A.175(VI) forming the Gubject of q recommend~tion by the Maritime Safetr Committee at its twenty-third session in nucordance with Article XVI of that Convention wi th a vtew to pr('tt:.'ctint~ the area known as the Great Barrier Reef from the effects of pollution by oil, ADOPTS the following amendments tn the Articles of the Conventirm (PI.s amendeu tn 1(69), the texts of which are attached to this Resolution: (a) (b) the replacement of th8 d'.d'ini tion of "nearest land" in Articlt: I by 8, n2w definition, the replacement of sub-paragraph (.Lv) nf paragraph (n) of Article III by a new sub. paragraph j t,,~q1jests the Secret8.ry-General of the Orgnnizll t ion 1 in conformity with Article XVI(2)(a), to communic'1~e certified copies of this Resolution to all Contracting Governments to the Internati'onal Ccnvention for the: Preventil)n of r,)lltit'inl of the Sea by Oil, 1954, together 'witb copies tr all Membe~8 of the Organization,
