Confirmation of the minutes of the WA Branch AGM 2015 Moved by Annamaria Arnall Seconded by Rossana Perino 2. Report from the Branch Chair The report is attached. Highlights included a summary of all the events AUSIT WA hosted or co-hosted including Translators - in Touch with Clients, a special session for interpreters working with cancer patients co-hosted with Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, and the Induction to the Profession held over 3 days. Members were encouraged to like the AUSIT WA and national AUSIT Facebook pages, and to keep an eye on these pages for early notification of events. 3 3. Report from the Branch Delegate to the National Council (Yutaka Kawasaki) It has been a very busy year preparing for the FIT conference, an international event in August 2017 in Brisbane. The structure of the national council has been undergoing changes by establishing specialist committees with the aim of ensuring smooth running of the Institute. Ella Davies: There was a big push from NAATI to make all practitioners part of the compulsory revalidation system (even those from before 2007 who did not opt into the revalidation system). In the end, this will not go ahead, because of the protest of AUSIT members and successful negotiations by AUSIT National President. 4. Report from the Treasurer (Catherine Pfammatter) The WA branch no longer has own bank account; there is one account for all branches now. This means the duties of the treasurer have been streamlined. Throughout the year, we host several of our own PD events, and co-host events with entities like hospitals or OMI. One of our most significant costs and logistical problems until now was PD event venues, but support from the UWA Masters Programme has eliminated this problem. We would like to express our sincere thanks for their assistance. We have made a small profit from each of our events. There are about 40 AUSIT members in the WA branch. Between 15 and 20 people attend each event, but participation numbers are low in comparison to other branches. We usually get a $ benefit after covering costs. A national professional development council was established in October last year, and they meet virtually about once every quarter. The council has set up many common resources so each branch can access information about what other branches are doing for their professional development, for the purpose of increasing consistency between the branches. Erika Gonzales, the national coordinator of the national professional development council, has offered to come to WA to deliver her ethics workshop. AUSIT WA hopes to host this in the first quarter of next year.

4 5. Other business Annamaria Arnall: The Young Translator of the Year competition has been launched this year for the first time. It has been advertised through OMI to second language schools (Saturday schools) in 2 divisions, years 5-9 and years We received responses from 10 schools. Applications are now closed, teachers have set the texts and the children have completed the translations. Annamaria Arnall has collected the entries, depersonalised them, and sent them to impartial practitioners in other states to judge. We are grateful for the sponsorship from UWA as well in the form of a book voucher as the prize. Annamaria Arnall is currently in the process of organising the award ceremony. Rebecca Ball, OMI Director, will most likely attend, and an invitation extended to the Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Interests. Rossana Perino: do you intend to extend to mainstream schools? Annamaria Arnall: Yes, we hope to do so in the future, and we also hope the competition will be run by other states as well. Cooperation with UWA: Rossana Peroni expresses her desire that we cooperate further with UWA to develop more robust PD events, especially on ethics. 6. Election of the Branch office bearers Lidia Elicegui moves, Michelle Dreyfus seconds to accept the treasurer s and the branch delegate s reports. All positions declared open by Ella Davies Catherine Pfammatter: there will be a working group on changes in the PD logbook used for the revalidation process. Ella Davies: encourages people to join this, or the committee if they are interested in working to make a better system. Motion by Annamaria Arnall: Sally Wals be accepted as secretary

There were no votes against any motions, and no one present abstained from voting. Motion by Yutaka Kawasaki: Michelle Dreyfus and Houtan Dehbonei be accepted as general members. Motion by Lionel Robert Ure: nominated himself as a general committee member. 7. Any other business New members to AUSIT WA : Several AGM attendees are interested, but have not completed the application process. New members can be accepted at branch meetings, and interested members were encouraged to check the AUSIT WA Facebook page for the time and date of the next meeting. Professional development workshops in the coming year : Catherine Pfammatter is hoping to fix a date for a professional development event next year with Dr Rocco Loiacono at UWA, who has just published a book and has run workshops interstate. We hope to have the same presentations here. During the next calendar year, AUSIT WA plans to hold 4 professional development events, 3 social events, and hold other events in cooperation with other organisations like WAITI, OMI and UWA. Catherine Pfammatter encourages members to attend the sundowner on November 25 th at the Oxford Hotel and the Afternoon Tea on Oct 1 st at the Millpoint Caffe Bookshop. AGM closed 12:45
