1 Summer 2014 Issue 39 Newsletter Runway Improvement Project Enters a New Phase! by David Heal, AAE, Sr. Aviation Consultant, Mead & Hunt Inc. With the coming of summer, construction on the Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport (STS) runway improvement project has continued in earnest. The majority of operational enhancements to Runway 2-20 are anticipated to be completed by the end of June. These enhancements include a new partial parallel taxiway (new Taxiway B), a medium intensity runway lighting system, and Precision Approach Path Indicator lights serving Runway 2. In addition, the old Runway 32 localizer antenna array has been removed and will be replaced with a new, state-of-the-art array when Runway is reopened later this fall. In early July, Runway 2-20 will be reopened for air traffic (day/night and VFR/IFR) with a temporary length of 4,831 feet. The Temporary Airfield Configuration can be found on page 8 of this Newsletter. Runway will then be temporarily closed until mid-october 2014 to enable construction of the various runway safety area enhancements and the decoupling of the runway approach ends. During the construction of the culvert on the Airport s northwest side, pilots can expect to see a crane operating near the approach end of Runway 14. The crane will be operating at night while the airport is closed. Re-designation of taxiways will occur throughout the construction project. Pilots are strongly encouraged to check for FAA NOTAMs regarding the many changes occurring during this summer s airport construction project. It is anticipated that the STS runway improvement project will be substantially completed by mid-october For up-to-date information regarding this project, visit: Culvert night work Pacific Coast Air Museum REACH updates Alaska Airlines Redwood Bench Development Opportunities For Rent Aviation Commission Rack Card/Advertising Opportunities..7 Temporary Airfield Configuration Airport Tenant Directory

2 PCAM Air Show 2014: New Date / New Location The Wings Over Wine Country Air Show will be held on September this year instead of the usual August dates. The main reason for the date change is so that we can compete for Canadian acts and demonstration teams that usually reserve June through August to fly in Canadian air shows. In addition to the date change, the 2014 air show will be located south of the airline box at the Charles M. Schulz - Sonoma County Airport with the show front crowd line on the ramp in front of, to just south of Sonoma Jet Center. The location change is primarily due to construction that is anticipated to be ongoing in September on the KaiserAir Santa Rosa Jet Center ramp area. The air show performer lineup is looking very good for this year and includes: Greg Colyer in his T-33, Jerod Flohr in his Extra, Frank Dr. D Donnelly in his clip-wing Taylorcraft, and Dan Buchanan with his hang glider routine. Our headline act is Chuck Aaron with the only U.S. aerobatic helicopter routine, and the Marines will be coming with their MV-22 Osprey demonstration team. Chuck Aaron aerobic helicopter On the ground, we ll have over 30 static display aircraft to look at and climb aboard, and the 501st Star Wars reenactors will be walking around keeping an eye on things, as well as to give our guests some great additional photo opportunities. In Sonoma Jet Center s Redwood Hangar, we ll have interactive demonstrations that will include battle bots where guests can battle each other using remote controlled robots. As usual, we ll have a nice collection of novelty vendors and local food vendors, and a kids world for our younger guests. A pancake breakfast will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 10am for guests who want to get an early start on their air show outing. Save the date for September 20th and 21st for your 2014 Wings Over Wine Country Air Show experience. It s going to be a great show! Check out our website for details: MV-22 Osprey 2
