1 Compass Points November 23, 2011 Once again it s time for us to recognize some really outstanding members of our team. This edition of Compass Points is dedicated to the PRAISE winners for the 3 rd Quarter of Please take some time to read the writeups on our winners. We have a larger than usual number of winners this quarter, which is really great news. In past quarters, nominations have been light, making it hard for us to recognize the outstanding efforts that happen each day at Compass. As a reminder these nominations come from you and your peers. It is always especially rewarding when the Compass leadership team reviews the nominations each quarter. In many cases we get firsthand accounts of outstanding and extraordinary events that make Compass a great airline. As a leadership team we thank all of our winners for their efforts, as they are all part of the Compass Difference. Again, please read through these write-ups and take a minute to let our winners know how much they are appreciated. Great Job! 2 Steve Deplazes, Travis Anderson, Rick Hardy MSP Pilots - Training These three gentlemen exemplify the selfless attitudes that all companies of quality seek in their employees. On April 4 of this year, Compass Airlines was required by the FAA to conduct a top to bottom audit of the pilot AQP training program. This audit involved requiring that a qualified Check Airman (or APD) be in attendance before any FPT or FMT training event was allowed to be conducted. Coordinating a qualified auditor and matching them to each event required a great deal of flexibility on the part of the auditors we use. Steve, Travis and Rick burned the wick at both ends to make sure I had training events covered and that the training program could move forward in its effort to fill the desperately needed FO positions. Often times this required scheduling an auditor for two events per day to cover the need. At times that meant arriving at the Training Center for the first event at 5:30 AM and finishing the second event after 11:00 PM. This was a difficult period for Compass Flight Ops training for many reasons: the loss of the Supervisor of Scheduling left all of the scheduling duties to one person, the flow of Compass pilots to Delta, including all of the Management pilots, the two LOIs issued by the FAA and the loss of training capacity due in part by the scarcity of qualified auditors. Steve, Travis and Rick audited nearly 70 events in a 6 week period. Although there were other auditors involved, these three stand out in stark contrast. Kudos to these three for their effort to make the audit the success that it was.

3 Shirley Ragan Security Shirley is a very dependable and trustworthy employee. She is a team player and shares the responsibilities of other departments while managing to complete her own task on a timely basis. She has completed the construction of the Compass Corporate Security Manual which was new to the company in She successfully managed the Ground Operations, Cargo, Ground Handling and Security parts of the IOSA audit on our behalf. She is a valued member of the SMS Team as well as a Committee Chairperson of a Regulatory Committee for RAA Security. Best of all, Shirley is a well mannered and knowledgeable professional who is a very pleasant and kind individual. Thomas Janz IT Tom recently joined our airline family as part of the IT team with one of his first assignments to "migrate us from the Delta system to the TSH system". We all know it wasn't a seamless process and some issues are still being worked out. Tom deserves recognition for his dedication and hard work therefore I am nominating Tom for the PRAISE Award. When I first met Tom, I was impressed by his enthusiastic personality and he was clearly excited to be part of our team. Tom is ALWAYS pleasant, EXTREMELY patient, and ALWAYS makes time to answer your question(s). I realize that the migration has been no easy task and very painful for some, however I appreciate Tom's patience with all of our issues AND he always takes the time to listen and has been extremely helpful to our department. Paul Caldwell Flight Attendant Trainer On Sep 2, 2011, my crew and I experienced a medical emergency on flight 5826 from MSP to YVR. Much to my appreciation and I m sure the rest of my crew, Paul Caldwell demonstrated Compass core values on that flight. He was simply non-reving as an off duty passenger, yet he demonstrated integrity by stepping up to help during a medical emergency. In a challenging and stressful situation, he put the safety of that ailing passenger first. He was able to assist both flight attendants (who also did an amazing job) throughout the emergency by offering advice from his experience. He talked with me on the cabin interphone, relaying important information that I was able to use to make the best possible decision for the safest outcome of the flight. This allowed both working flight attendants to greater assist with the medical emergency, and the rest of the passengers. By helping with the situation, while not even at work that day, Paul made the outcome of that flight a safer one.

4 Kelsey Steger Crew Scheduling Supervisor I would like to nominate Kelsey Steger for the PRAISE award. Kelsey has been with Compass Airlines since October, In the year that she has been a member of our team, Kelsey has demonstrated time and time again that she is willing to go the extra mile. Kelsey's dedication to ensuring the best service to our crew members is what makes her an outstanding candidate for the PRAISE award. On one occasion, Kelsey became aware that a crew would be arriving in MSP and would not have enough time to stop for a meal break without incurring a flight delay. In order to avoid the flight delay, yet make sure that the crew was able to have something to eat, Kelsey picked up a pizza and drove to the airport and delivered it to the crew. On another occasion, Kelsey went above and beyond when, due to car problems, one of our reserve pilots would have had to take the Light Rail to the airport. In order to avoid a flight delay, Kelsey used her car to pick the pilot up and transport him to the airport. The flight actually ended up departing a few minutes earlier than scheduled. Kelsey works very hard to strike a balance between the needs of our crew members and the needs of the company to ensure a safe and on time operation. Kelsey has often stepped forward to take on special projects. Her organizational skills and attention to detail make her an excellent team member. Kelsey's dedication and professionalism make her an excellent candidate for the PRAISE award.

5 Sydney De Boer & Kristi Gildberg MSP Pilots We would like to congratulate CA Sydney De Boer and FO Kristi Gildberg for being nominated and chosen for this quarter s Compass PRAISE Award. They were nominated for their superb handling of a catastrophic engine failure. In particular, their operational excellence demonstrated during this emergency event, significantly contributed to a safe and relatively uneventful outcome. The crew experienced a sudden and unexpected engine failure in the climb through 3000 on departure out of Jacksonville, FL (JAX), en-route to Minneapolis. By all accounts, the crew did everything expected of them in an emergency situation and safely returned to JAX after completing all required procedures prescribed during this type of emergency. The crew handled the emergency exactly as trained in the simulator. CA De Boer remarked that he was very impressed by how well our Embraer 175 aircraft flew on a hot summer day in Florida on one engine. This was considering that they were a full flight (76 passengers) with a lot of bags. The aircraft weight at the time of failure was approximately pounds. For their exemplary handling of the event Flight Operations would like to recognize Sydney and Kristi.
