Gesine Varfis, Consultant 15:30 16:15 REFRESHMENT BREAK & SOFTAWARE DEMOS EXHIBITION HALL Optimizing Crew Planning and Scheduling The lost art of Crewing OPS EFFICIENCY Effective Crew Planning and Scheduling is essential for airlines. Recent high-profile cases of airlines cancelling flights because of lack of crew and the need to keep hold of key staff in this era of high turnover and crew shortages has brought this issue to the forefront of the industry. Over the years Crew Planning has evolved greatly. Starting with paper rosters where little yellow stickers were placed one over the other every time you made a change, and you knew the name of every pilot, and could call in favours at 3 in the morning... To a world where systems are relied on and have replaced experience.staff now are recruited from outside the industry and taught how to use the computer. Rostering agreements often seem to be the front line of the war between Crew and Operations, and a Summer in Crew Control is a very challenging environment... So it is important now more than ever to have a system airlines understand, processes that are robust, agreements that are monitored and workable, leaders and mentors to take the inexperienced people by the hand. This presentation outlines best practices to achieve these goals. Dean Stewart, Lead Consultant Crew Planning, Aircraft Commerce Consulting What s going on with MRO IT? How is it going to affect me in the cockpit? DIGITAL FLIGHTDECK The digital transformation of the aerospace and airline industry continues to gain momentum.
