The it o tai s 11 monolithic churches that were built in the 12th century and are carved out of the pink granite rock; they have been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We spend the rest of the day visiting fascinating churches within the town and countryside; some are made from the rock and dating back to around the twelfth century. We will walk/mule ride through dramatic highland scenery and which eventually ends in a beautiful serene agricultural hamlet. In the afternoon drive to Yimrahene Kirstos(let Christ Lead us) monastery church. The water of the Awash River passes through a spectacular gorge; the park shelters 392 bird species and various other mammals: Oryx, gazelle and antelopes. 12 HARAR y 16 Drive to Driredawa and visit the colorful market place of Dire wa and the Chat market (mildly stimulant plant) market of Aweday. In the evening head to the Hyena man, to see an entertainer who feeds the wild hyena in bare hands. Accommodation Ras Hotel Included Activities: Market and Scenery ADAMA y 17 Today We will have a site seeing of the walled city of Harar (the 4th Islamic center in the world) namely, the traditional Harari Museum, the famous poet, Arthur Rimbaud`s former house, the grand Jami mosque, the Ras Teferi`s (the last king of Ethiopia, Haylesilasse) former house, the colorful Christian and Muslim Markets and drive to Adama. A long section of the road offers magnificent views of Lake Abaya, surrounded by mountains. The lake has volcanic origins and is almost pink in color. Today we visit the Dorze village, one of the many small group of tribes in southern Ethiopia. Once warriors, the Dorze are now turned to farming and weaving to earn a living. 13 TURMI y 19 D i e to Tu ie oute eet the people of Konso and their villages. The cornerstone of Konso culture is a highly specialized and successful agricultural economy. Meet the people, take photographs and learn of a culture that has had very little outside influence and continue to Turmi. We will visit the weekly market of the Hamer and Bena in KeyAfer Market (Thursday Market) a highlight of Omo Valley where all the ethnic tribes come to shop. The market is exciting and you may have the opportunity to buy some of the tribal regalia and artifacts. One of a small group of the Omo Valley tribes, called sanach. We also visit the Hamer tribes in Turmi area. In the Second day we will visit one of the colourful markets in the Omo Valley, Dimeka Market and continue to Jinka for a visit of the Ari people and villages. The Mursis are known for their decorative lip plates that adorn the lower lips of the Mursi women. The various cultural aspects of the tribe will be explained and you will be able to take their photographs and interact with them.
