4 TRAVEL NOTES OUR GUIDE Africale Travel is owned and run by Alessandro Gilli (Ale), originally from Torino, Italy. Alessandro visited South Africa when he was 17 years old, and vowed to come back permanently one day. Since arriving in the region 14 years ago, Ale has travelled, worked and/or lived in Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Uganda, Zambia and South Africa. With a good command of English and Portuguese, and fluent in Italian, Ale carries Level 1, 2, and 3 First Aid Certification and an added Certificate in the identification and treatment of venemous snake bites. He has a current South African Tourist Transport License and is registered as a guide with CATHSSETA. There will be an English-speaking female tour facilitator/assistant, for the duration of the tour, from start to finish. Roads are all tarred and in good condition. The only dirt roads are those in the National Parks RECOMMENDED CLOTHING Although it is nearing the end of Winter, it is still quite cold in the evenings. We suggest that you wear layers of light-weight cotton clothing, which you can remove as the days get hot. A beanie or head scarf, as the mornings and evenings are chilly. Make sure that your passport is valid for a minimum of 6 months by the END of your voyage, ith full blan pages available. For VISA ON ARRIVAL, your passport will be stamped and the free tourist visa will be pasted on a full page valid for 3 months. LUGGAGE Your large case/bag should not exceed 15 kg, plus a small backpack for excursions and walks etc. CURRENCY ome places accept or, but in general, outh frican ands are the currenc of exchange. Most hotels, restaurant and shops accept credit cards (VISA, MASTERCARD) There are ATMs everywhere, where you can draw cash. Please let your bank know that you will be travelling, before ou leave home. Africale does provide a South African mobile phone which is available to clients, so they can send and receive messages from home, via WhatsApp. You are welcome to purchase your own simcard on arrival at the airport.
