TRIP OVERVIEW Few people know about the wonders of Churchill,, but those who have made the journey have experienced a world virtually untouched by human hands. Churchill is accessible by train or plane, which makes the town a place that is a little on the wild side. Living in Churchill is a lot like living on an island in a sea of wilderness. There are no billboards, no chain restaurants, no traffic jams and no street noise. Our facilities offer a place of rest and relaxation in the midst of pure wilderness so wild that the lodge have taken precautions to prevent four-legged visitors from getting in. With 60,000 Beluga Whales filling the Hudson Bay and Polar Bears leaving the pan ice, summer is the perfect time to visit Churchill. Let our experienced guides take you on a jet boat tour of the bay and river estuaries where you ll see countless Beluga Whales. The chance to snorkel and kayak with Beluga Whales is something rated as an unforgettable experience. See Polar Bear in their summer environment on the rocks and swimming in the water. Polar Bear are the largest land carnivores in the world. Churchill s polar bear population is the most southern population of polar bears on the planet. Several natural processes help make Churchill the Polar Bear Capital of the World. On top of this, you also have the possibility of witnessing the Northern Lights which previous guests have spotted, making this one epic trip! ITINERARY AND DETAILS With 60,000 Beluga Whales filling the Hudson Bay and Polar Bears leaving the melting sea ice, Summer is an amazing time to visit Churchill! Over the course of this seven day adventure, our experienced guides will take you to beautiful wild places that offer the very best opportunities to see Polar Bears, Beluga Whales, Arctic Sik Sik, over 200 nesting or migrating bird species, seals, Arctic Hare, Arctic Fox, and more. Our guides will take you in the Sam Hearne, a coast guard certified custombuilt boat, on an adventure to experience one of the more remote Polar Bears, viewing areas on the west side of Hudson Bay. You will have the opportunity to view Polar Bears in their Summer environment, swimming and walking around the rocks and wildflowers. Along the same shoreline, hundreds of Beluga Whales come to feed, mate and give birth in the warm, shallow near-coastal waters. Our Beluga Whale boat tour will focus on viewing these beautiful mammals in their natural habitat in the Churchill River and into the Hudson Bay area as they feed on schools of caplin, arctic char and brook trout. We will also go ashore for a walking tour of the historic Prince of Wales Fort. Snorkeling and kayaking with the whales are available as optional extras. Next, we will tour the tundra in our Arctic Crawlers to view the beautiful landscape and varied wildlife in the area. You may see over 200 nesting and migrating birds, fields of wild flowers so colorful that they don t seem real, seals, small mammals such as the Arctic Hare and Arctic Fox. Back at the lodge and after a delectable supper, you will possibly see the Northern Lights. The cultural and heritage tour takes you to Churchill and the surrounding area where you will be exploring various historic sites. These include Cape Merry, an outside tour of the polar bear holding facility, the wreckage of the famous plane, Miss Piggy, and many other historic sites that make Churchill the town it is today. You may walk around and take pictures or stay on the bus if you prefer. Day 1: Arrive in and check-in to the conveniently located hotel at your leisure. Please note you will not meet your tour guide until the morning of day two after your flight from to Churchill. You will be provided with flight details and clear instructions closer to the time once flight details are available. Accommodation: Hotel included Day 2: to Churchill Generally, it s a morning flight to the Lazy Bear Lodge in Churchill. This renowned family-owned lodge has been handcrafted from local materials, with charming log buildings and decor to match the personal friendly service. A guide will meet you upon arrival at the Churchill Airport and escort you to Lazy Bear Lodge to enjoy your wonderful accommodations in s largest hand-built log building. Feel free to check the bulletin board to see if there are special events during your visit in Churchill. You ll have free time during your trip to explore special places in Churchill like the Itsanitaq Museum, the Canada Parks Museum as well as unique shops in town where you can also see authentic native art. On a cultural and heritage tour, visit the historic Cape Merry where the Churchill River spills into the Bay. Here you can take short hikes along the coastline with the group. It is not encouraged to walk alone due to potential issues with bears. Then it s on to the `Polar Bear Jail. One way the citizens of Churchill care for their Polar Bear friends is to put them in `jail. When someone spots a Polar Bear too close to town, they call a special phone number, and the bear is humanely trapped and placed in the `Polar Bear Jail until it can be safely transported back to the wild. Please note: You will transfer to the airport this morning for the flight from to Churchill a Lazy Bear staff will greet you at your hotel. The transfer will be arranged so you will arrive at the airport approximately one hour before your flight. Your flight will be included in your travel documents. You will be met by your tour guide upon arrival to Churchill airport. 4 VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR CANADA It is important you apply for your entry requirement, known as an Electronic Travel Authorization (eta), prior to arrival. Citizens from countries other than the US who do not require a visa to enter Canada will be required to obtain an eta before entering the country. Eligible travellers will need to go online to apply for their eta. To apply for your eta you will need your passport, credit or debit card and an address. At the time of publication there is a CAD$7 fee to process your eta. Your eta will be valid for a period of five years, or until your passport expires. We recommend you carry a print out of your eta approval when you travel. Please visit to apply. If you have not applied for and received authorisation via an eta prior to travel you may be denied boarding, experience a delayed processing or be denied admission at the Canadian point of entry. However, neither possession of a visa nor meeting the basic requirements for travelling visafree on the eta, guarantees admission to Canada. As with most countries, the final determination of admissibility is made by immigration officials at the point of entry. Please note: If you are arriving into Canada overland you do not need to apply for an eta. HEALTH REQUIREMENTS If you have any medical conditions, take prescribed medicines, or have a condition that will affect your participation in the tour, you must inform Grand American Adventures or your travel agent at the time of booking. Please be aware we may require a doctor s note prior to travel for some conditions. This information is essential in case of emergency. All of our vehicles carry a basic first-aid kit, but for everyday use you should bring your own medical supplies, such as pain relievers, antibiotic cream and upset stomach relievers, in addition to sunscreen and insect repellent. LYME DISEASE The Lyme disease bacterium is spread through the bite of infected ticks. It can be found throughout the US but is more common in the northeastern, mid-atlantic, and north-central United States. Ticks can attach to any part of the human body but are often found in hard-to-see areas such as the groin, armpits, and scalp. In most cases, the tick must be attached for 36 to 48 hours or more before the Lyme disease bacterium can be transmitted. Ticks can be found in any areas with deep or overgrown vegetation where they have access to animals to feed on. If you find a tick on you or suspect you may have been bitten by one, it is important you advise your tour leader and seek medical attention. WHAT YOU NEED FOR YOUR TOUR SPENDING MONEY Your spending money needs to cover meals not included in the tour, drinks, personal expenses such as souvenirs and snacks throughout. For this tour we recommend you take at least CAD$75 dollars per person per day, but it s better to bring more than you need rather than run short on tour. You will also need to budget optional activities should you wish. Please ensure that your credit or debit cards have international access and a PIN number to access your funds at the start of the tour. PRE-PAID CURRENCY CARDS It is personal preference as to how you take your money and it s recommended to take some cash with you to be prepared when you arrive, but Grand American Adventures is pleased to endorse FairFX prepaid currency cards. Please ask one of our sales consultants or click on the link to find out how to receive a FREE currency card, worth a retail value of TIPPING Although it may not be customary in your country, it is normal and expected in Canada to tip waiters, bar staff and guides on the tour. Service workers are paid a low wage and depend upon their tips for their livelihood. A minimum of 15-17% is standard in restaurants. Your tour guides also work hard for you, so if the guide s performance meets or exceeds your expectations, we recommend you consider a tip of CAD$50 per couple (tipping range can fluctuate anywhere between CAD$20-CAD$100). This is of course entirely optional. LUGGAGE ALLOWANCE Each passenger will be allowed one check-in one bag weighing 23 kilos for the internal flights. A small daypack and camera may also be carried in our vehicle. Please check with your international airline with regards to the maximum luggage allowance for the international flight as this may be different. PACKING TIPS CLOTHING Please keep in mind that our dress tends to be informal. Please see the temperature guide showing the highs and lows that can be expected in key locations that your tour visits. Remember Churchill is Polar Bear country, therefore, we recommend bringing warm and layered clothing. Please bring long underwear, snug but comfortable fitting outerwear and a fleece jacket or sweater. Outer clothing should consist of a windproof material, with an attached hood or very warm hat. The lodge does sell some clothing including hats and fleece jackets. A pair of ski or wind trousers is recommended for those who feel the cold, but for most, typically trousers and a jacket will suffice. We recommend a softer material that will not become hard and plastic in cold weather. As well when choosing wind trousers or jackets, if you blow through the material and your breath does not permeate easily, then it is a good windproof material. This is true for both jakets and wind trousers. Gloves should have ample insulation. Gloves may look like ski gloves and should have an upper extension to cover your wrist as well as your hands. This all being said, we are preparing you for our coldest temperatures, which may not always be the case. All of our tour vehicles are heated, but when the windows come down you will want to be protected. Weather permitting we may go on short hikes in patrolled areas. On this tour we recommend warm comfortable boots with ankle support and grip. Cameras and batteries act differently in cold weather. Keeping your camera in an outer pocket or case keeps the camera safe from extreme cold but also does not keep it too warm where condensation can develop. We recommend a few sets of spare batteries as when your batteries get cold your camera will stop functioning. Please also bring a pair of binoculars with you for viewing various wildlife. Please note: Airlines have various rules on what can be carried in your luggage - if in doubt check with your airline before travelling.

5 BATTERY CHARGING Many of our travellers bring mobile phones, music devices and cameras that require frequent battery charging during a tour. Your lodge room will have an electrical outlet, just remember your international adaptor. EMERGENCY CONTACT In the event of an emergency or if you wish to report a problem on tour please do not hesitate to call our 24-hour emergency contact number. Remember, if we don t know about it we won t be able to do anything about it. Phone number for family to contact you in case of emergency: International: JOINING YOUR TOUR TOUR AND ACCOMMODATION VOUCHERS A tour voucher and joining details including internal flight times will be ed to you once your balance has been paid in full. Vouchers for any hotel nights you have booked before or after your tour as well as any additional day tours will also be sent to you. You can print off the PDF vouchers or download to your smartphone. For those without access your vouchers will be posted. Please make sure that these vouchers are correct. JOINING POINT Your joining hotel is likely to change prior to arrival due to availability. We use a different joining hotel between the summer and winter tours but there is some crossover so be sure to check your tour voucher for correct details. It will more than likely be Hilton Airport Suites. Hilton Suites Airport 1800 Wellington Avenue R3H 1B2, Canada Tel: Transfer: You are expected to make your own way to the hotel in but you will be issued with a taxi voucher to be passed to the taxi driver. Please note you will not be picked up by your tour guide (whom you will not meet until day two after departing the plane in Churchill). Inn at the Forks 75 Forks Market Road Canada R3C 0A2 Tel: ARRIVAL COMPLICATIONS Sometimes the unexpected can happen; your plane may be delayed or you may even miss it! If you have missed your tour departure, call the relevant emergency number and speak to our staff who will be happy to help you catch up with the group. Please note that you are responsible for any extra travelling expenses incurred due to you missing your tour s departure, so please be on time. FINISHING POINT Your post tour hotel is likely to change due to availability. We use a different final night hotel between the summer and winter tours but there is some crossover so be sure to check your tour voucher for correct details. It will more than likely be Inn at the Forks. Inn at the Forks 75 Forks Market Road Canada R3C 0A2 Tel: Transfer: The hotel does not operate an airport shuttle service but you can arrange a taxi from the hotel which will take approximately 35 minutes and cost in the region of CAD$ Hilton Suites Airport 1800 Wellington Avenue R3H 1B2, Canada Tel: Transfer: The hotel is nearby to the airport and will cost approximately CAD$5-8 for the journey. The hotel does operate a courtesy bus which you can arrange directly with the hotel reception. Please expect to tip CAD$1-$2 to the driver. ABOUT OUR TOURS TRANSPORTATION For internal flights we use a few different airlines depending on convenience and availability. On the ground in Churchill, the best way to experience the environment is on an authentic tundra buggy and old American-style bus. All of our tundra buggies are furnished with dual-pane frost-free windows and contain propane heating systems that closely resemble a cozy fireplace. ACCOMMODATION Accommodation will be in the Lazy Bear Lodge with en-suite bathroom facilities. If you book as a solo person you will be required to reserve a solo supplement tour price. A solo supplement fee covers the loss of income by the lodge when one single person occupies a room. That person pays a premium as room availability is limited during our operating seasons. If you book as two people you will stay in either a twin share or double room depending on your preference. LAZY BEAR LODGE - CHURCHILL Hand hewed from logs pulled from the nearby boreal forest, the Lazy Bear Lodge is as unique and memorable as Churchill itself. The friendly staff will make you feel right at home in the heart of polar bear country. Facilities include a handcrafted log building, 33 rooms with two double beds and private bath/shower, cable television with movie channels, wireless high speed internet and pleasant dining hall with homemade northern cuisine. SECURITY No matter where you find yourself in the world, you need to look after your valuables. In general, the safest place for items such as passports, flight tickets and cash is on your person or in a hotel safe where available, and do not leave valuables in the vehicle. When in doubt consult your tour guide. We would like to remind you that you are ultimately responsible for your safety and well-being. We request that you carry yourself in a mature and responsible manner - not only for your own personal safety, but for that of the group and other travellers.

6 SAFETY Use common sense when on foot in Churchill. Polar Bears do occasionally come right into town, and we recommend taking a taxi if you are out past 22:00 hrs. Stay in well-lit areas and travel with others before 22:00 hrs. MEALS To help you budget for your meals on average hotel lunches from CAD$10-20 and dinners from CAD$15-$30; this does not include alcoholic beverages. Wine costs approximately CAD$7 per glass and beer CAD$5 per bottle. Please also be aware that a tip of approximately 15-17% is added to group meals in Churchill restaurants. Applicable taxes will also be added to all listed menu prices. Please make sure we are aware of any special meal requirements before travelling. YOUR TOUR GUIDES Your tour guide is there to make sure you get the most out of your tour; organising activities, providing information and answering any questions you may have as well as sorting out any queries or problems you may encounter. If you have any particular interests or things you would like to do on your tour, then please let your tour guide know at the beginning of the tour and they will do their best to help you.
