5 1) The automatic operationnal pilot of gliders Server G1 kerbang Server G2 kerbang glider data SST observed (satellite data MEDSPIRATION) Glider trajectory FORECAST (in MERCATOR forecast fields) Coriolis DATA BASE glider data LOCEAN server - a kerbang is piloting automatically the glider and downloading in real-time the glider data - a cron is collecting and computing the marine environment data every day - but the waypoints are given at the beginning of the mission DATA BASE CRON : programs Glider Simulator figures of : -real-time glider data -marine environment (...) 6 2) A web interface for the gliderman (R. Luo) A web interface accessible easily for the gliderman (in a lab, at home, in a cybercafe...). Information given on this Web interface in real-time : - figures of the glider data in real time (tracers data, technical glider data...) - figures of the actual and forecasted marin environment Action to pilot the gliders : - a data base of the configuration files of the glider (masterdata, mafiles, mifiles) - the possibility to edit, modify, save and send new configuration files for the glider The gliderman do not need to wait a glider surfacing to modify the glider flight (flight parameter, waypoints...). He can use the web interface at any time, the new configuration files are sent automatically to the glider during its next surfacing.

16 4) Plans for Winter 2008 Why a Mediterranean Observatory Forecast? to dress a window for the maritim authorities, the army, the fishermen... advertisement for the EGO group a feedback for Mercator a tool to help the glidermen to steer their gliders Points to improve for Winter 2008 : the reliability of the operational forecast system (data not available or webserver down...) include the forecast figures in the Glider Mission Editor include all the EGO gliders in mission (contact blh@locean-ipsl.upmc.fr) add the gliderports the representation of the mesoscale structures in the MERCATOR forecasts (the northern current of Gulf of Lion appears rarely...)
