1 TITLE NAVIGATION - GARMIN G1000 ENHANCED SEARCH AND RESCUE ENABLEMENT EFFECTIVITY The following G1000-equipped airplanes with system software version (or later) installed: MODEL 172R 172S 182T T182T 206H T206H SERIAL NUMBERS and On 172S9810 and On and On T and On and On T and On REASON To provide enablement instructions for the Garmin G1000 Enhanced Search and Rescue (SAR) feature. The enhanced SAR upgrade enhancement provides air crews with step-by-step tracking procedures for SAR missions by incorporating search patterns into a flight plan. DESCRIPTION This service bulletin provides procedures to upload the enhanced SAR option. The enhanced SAR option includes the following: Parallel track search patterns Sector search patterns Expanding square search patterns Circle search pattern Flight planning parameters such as time, speed, distance, and fuel remaining are displayed on the flight planning pages throughout the mission Search patterns may be coupled to the automatic flight control system Adjustable search pattern parameters to modify the size and direction of the route Programmed search pattern from a single given waypoint. NOTE: Airplanes that have accomplished Cessna Service Bulletin SB Garmin G1000 Search and Rescue Enablement have already enabled all of the features above except the circle search pattern. COMPLIANCE OPTIONAL. This service bulletin can be accomplished at the discretion of the owner. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS 1. Connect external electrical power to the airplane. 2. Make sure that approved system software is installed on your airplane. A. Make sure that all of the necessary circuit breakers are pushed in for normal mode startup of the G1000 System. B. Put both the MASTER BAT and AVIONICS MASTER switches to the ON position and let the system power up. C. On the Multifunction Display (MFD) startup screen, make sure that the model and software version system shown in the upper right corner of the screen is the same as that shown in Table 1. NOTE: You can also find the system software version if you turn the large and the small FMS knobs on the MFD to go to the AUX-SYSTEM STATUS page. MODEL TABLE 1. (2) If the software version is not that of Table 1, load the correct software per Cessna Service Bulletin SEB or SEB (or latest revisions), and then go to Step 2D. Page 2 March 22, 2012

3 D. Put both the MASTER BAT and AVIONICS MASTER switches to the off position. 3. Do the search and rescue configuration upload to the G1000 Avionics system as follows: A. Remove the Primary Flight Display (PFD) and the MFD database SD cards from the bottom slots of the PFD and the MFD. B. Disengage the PFD (ESS and AVN BUS 1) and MFD (AVN BUS 2) circuit breakers. C. Put both the MASTER BAT and AVIONICS MASTER switches to the ON position. D. Push and hold the ENT key on the MFD and engage the MFD (AVN BUS 2) circuit breaker. E. Release the MFD ENT key when the message that follows appears: INITIALIZING SYSTEM. F. Install the Enhanced Search and Rescue Enablement Card in the PFD top slot. G. Push and hold the ENT key on the PFD and engage the PFD (ESS and AVN BUS 1) circuit breakers. H. Release the PFD ENT key when the message that follows appears: INITIALIZING SYSTEM. I. Turn the small FMS knob on the PFD to go to the SYSTEM group SYSTEM UPLOAD page. Push the small FMS knob to activate the cursor, turn the small FMS knob to highlight ENHANCED SAR in the group field, and push the ENT key. J. Turn the small FMS knob to highlight ENHANCED SEARCH AND RESCUE in the item field and push the ENT key of the PFD. K. Push the LOAD softkey. L. Monitor the status of the upload. When UPLOAD COMPLETE appears, push the ENT key to acknowledge it. M. Make sure that the summary field shows COMPLETE. N. Do Steps 3I through 3M again if the summary field shows not completed. Do not cancel a software upload before it successfully loads or fails. Wait until a successful load or fail shows in the summary field before you begin Steps 3I through 3M again. NOTE: You can do Steps 3I through 3M again for a maximum of five times because of a failed or cancelled upload prompt message. If the system does not upload after the fifth attempt, refer to the Garmin Line Maintenance Manual, Revision P or later, Appendix B.3 Software / Configuration Troubleshooting. If the system still does not upload, contact Cessna Propeller Aircraft Product Support: Telephone or FAX O. Disengage the PFD (ESS and AVN BUS 1) and MFD (AVN BUS 2) circuit breakers. P. Remove the Search and Rescue Enablement Card from the PFD top slot. Q. Insert the PFD and the MFD database SD cards into the bottom slots of the PFD and the MFD. 4. Make sure that you have done the Enhanced Search and Rescue configuration upload to the Garmin G1000 Avionics system correctly as follows: A. After a minimum of 15 seconds, engage the PFD (ESS and AVN BUS 1) and the MFD (AVN BUS 2) circuit breakers to apply power to the system. B. Push the ENT key on the MFD to continue. C. Push the FPL key on the MFD. D. Push the MENU key on the MFD. E. Make sure that Search and Rescue option shows in the page menu in the upper right corner of the MFD screen. (1) If Search and Rescue option shows in the page menu in the upper right corner of the MFD screen,gotostep4f. March 22, 2012 Page 3

4 (2) If Search and Rescue option does not show in the page menu in the upper right corner of the MFD screen, do Step 3 again. F. Put both the MASTER BAT and AVIONICS MASTER switches in the OFF position. 5. Remove external electrical power from the airplane. 6. Make sure that the Garmin G1000 Search and Rescue Pilot's Guide, Part Number Rev. C (or latest revision) is in the airplane. 7. The Enhanced Search and Rescue Enablement Card should be stored in the Pilot's Operating Handbook, Aircraft Software sleeve. 8. Make an entry in the airplane logbook that states compliance with this service bulletin. MATERIAL INFORMATION Order the parts below to install the SAR option. Once the Search and Rescue Enablement Card is used on an airplane it must remain with that airplane. NOTE: You must have installed software version or later before installation of the Enhanced SAR Enablement Option.
