PAGE 2 Introduction Accessed through Faro on Portugal s south coast, we have set up this sun-kissed week of leisure cycling from an eco-lodge base close to Aldeia da Pedralva and just a short distance inland from the popular surfing beaches at Amado and Bordeira. Whilst we will aim to see as much as possible of this south-western tip of Europe during the week, there s also lots of time to take it easy and to enjoy the climate of a region which has more than 300 sunny days a year. We have included 5 carefully chosen and reasonably leisurely rides which will show off the splendour of this wild and spectacular region; the dramatic cliffs, sand dunes, hidden coves and sweeping golden beaches of the southwest coast and the contrasting interior which presents a lush green tapestry of scattered white-painted villages, farmland, meadows and forests of chestnut, eucalyptus and cork oak. One of the rides will take us to nearby Lagos where we ll stay the night at a hotel, with the chance to explore and to enjoy dinner at a traditionally Portuguese restaurant. There s also a free day with the option to take a walk on the beach, go for a swim or try an optional activity such as kayaking or a beginner s surf lesson. An absolute highlight of the holiday is the delightful accommodation we have chosen as our base. Nestled amongst 150 acres of farmland and garden close to the village of Pedralva in the Cabo Sao Vicente National Park, the lodge is a beautiful and tranquil place. Evenings will be sociable as we gather around the dining table for a feast of home cooked Portuguese cuisine, often created from ingredients grown in the lodge s vegetable garden, or sit around the fire pit under the stars telling stories and chatting over a glass of local wine. Those seeking a little peace and solitude can retire to the lounge to curl up by the corner fireplace and read a book; there is something here for everyone. You will be incredibly well taken care of and made to feel very welcome by our friendly hosts, Jon and Vio. This is the perfect Algarve leisure cycling holiday. Explore International. This holiday is part of our Explore International range. Participants on these trips can book through KE or through one of our international partners. This helps us to gather together sufficient numbers of like-minded adventurers to get your holiday up and running quickly. Led by an English-speaking guide, the cosmopolitan nature of these groups can be an important part of the experience! Is this holiday for you? LEISURE CYCLING. We have set up this holiday to offer a mix of pleasant cycling and rewarding off-the-bike experiences. We have included 5 day-rides which average just 30 kilometres each day with not too much ascent and descent. The riding is on a mix of tarmac country roads and gravel forest roads and trails; there s nothing very technical and the GT mountain bikes that we include in the holiday cost are perfect for the job. Taking it easy and stopping to admire the views, stopping for a coffee or an ice-cream and for a picnic lunch, we will be out on our bikes for about 4 hours on each of the 5 days. An experienced local guide cycles with the group each day and a back-up vehicle can be called up if needed. This is a suitable holiday for anyone who includes cycling amongst their leisure activities. HIRE BIKE INCLUDED. Holiday Itinerary Day 1: Arrive at Faro Airport. A single timed transfer to the accommodation is provided. KE Land only package services begin with a single timed transfer, usually at midday, from Faro Airport to our rural eco-lodge accommodation near Aldeia da Pedralva on the very southern tip of the Algarve. We have a late buffet lunch at the lodge before exploring the delightful property and surroundings, including its fresh water lake. There

PAGE 3 will be plenty of time to pick up our bikes, have them fitted for us, and try them out on the local trails. There will be a pre-trip briefing with our guide in the evening before we settle down for the first of our delicious home cooked dinners on the veranda overlooking the surrounding cork forest. LODGE MEALS LD Day 2: An introductory loop ride to the coast at Carrapateira. Evening trip to Cabo Sao Vincent for the sunset. After breakfast at our accommodation, we set off on our bikes to Vilarinha a small whitewashed Portuguese hamlet, passing through rolling fields where cattle and horses graze. Beyond Vilarinha, we reach the small Carrapateira River and follow this through a pretty valley with a mix of pine and eucalyptus forest and farmland. Heading down to the coast, we cross the river several times before reaching the small coastal village of Carrapateira, where we get our first glimpses of the Atlantic and the long white beaches that are a feature of this coast. At the mouth of the river is Bordeira Beach and here we pick up the small coast road and follow it southwards for 5 kilometres to Amado Beach where we take a break and have lunch. This is a popular surfing beach and we can watch the surfers as we eat our picnic. Taking a dip in the cool Atlantic Ocean can also be a popular option if it's sunny. The ride after lunch takes us off the beaches and up a valley with switchbacks which offer views back to the sea. We reach a high point and have a great decent into Pedralva which was abandoned until 2006 when a group of people from Lisbon bought most of the village and turned it into a lovely resort of quaint cottages and traditional restaurants set amongst exquisite scenery. We stop at a café for a drink and a rest in the sun before completing our ride back to our eco-lodge accommodation. We will have plenty of time to relax; to kick back in a hammock and read or relax over a coffee in the lounge. In the evening we'll have a reasonably early dinner, before driving out to Cabo Sao Vincente to watch the dramatic sunset at the most south-westerly point of Europe. LODGE DESCENT 325M ASCENT 325M TIME 4 HRS CYCLING HOURS DISTANCE 22KM MEALS BLD Day 3: Rural ride via Alfambrasi and the region of Barrao de Sao Joao. Late afternoon at the beach. This morning we will drive out to a pass locally known as Ferro Gordo and from there cycle easily down to Alfambras on a small country road. Alfambras is a small hamlet set amongst rolling fields and vineyards with orchards, olive groves and stands of cork oak trees. We turn off here and ride on a mix of quiet tarmac roads and gravel roads into a region of unspoiled farmland; reaching the top of a ridge and continuing on forest tracks to a junction marked Barao de S. Joao (which we will pass through tomorrow). This is a really remote area with very little traffic of any sort and there are beautiful views in all directions. We can see the coast and, away to the northwest, the distant mountains of Monchique which include Foia (902m), the highest point in the Algarve. Arriving at the huge wind turbines of a windfarm, we turn back towards Pedralva, following a river valley through cork oak forest and stopping at a suitably picturesque spot for lunch. We can eat our picnic whilst keeping a look out for soaring birds of prey. Once again we have plenty of time to chill out on our return to the lodge and one option is to take a trip out to the beach for a swim or for a walk and for a drink at the café. 4 PAGE 4 Day 4: Cycle to Lagos. Afternoon explore the town and evening dinner at a typically Portuguese restaurant. There's no great rush this morning as we have a straightforward ride eastwards to the town of Lagos on Portugal's south coast. The route follows a good gravel forest road past the Pedralva windfarm and involves a little more than 100 metres of ascent within the first 5 or 6 kilometres. We reach a crest and from there we can enjoy an undulating and largely descending ride to Baroa de S. Joao. This is a good place to take a break and there is a quaint restaurant here where we can have an early lunch; try the fresh juice or a piece of Portuguse sweet potato cake, or just a cold coca cola. The onward ride to Lagos is on a quiet country road through typically Portuguese farmland and villages and on the final downhill stretch to Lagos we have views of the town, its port and beaches. We will check in at our hotel and have the remainder of the afternoon free to do some exploring on foot. Lagos has a picturesque historic centre (old town) which is surrounded by ancient Moorish walls dating from the 13th century. Fishing and tourism are important to Lagos and there is both a small fishing port and a marina for pleasure boats. The town also has several white-sand beaches, some of the backed by cliffs. In the evening we will go out to dinner in a traditional Portuguese restaurant. HOTEL DESCENT 350M ASCENT 300M TIME 3-4 HRS CYCLING HOURS DISTANCE 26KM MEALS BL Day 5: Cycle back to Pedralva, exploring the beautiful south coast along the way. Setting off on today's super ride along the coast and back to our base near Pedralva, we'll firstly cycle out to Lagos's lighthouse, the Farol Ponta da Piedade which is built on a rocky promontory. From here, we follow the little-used coast road which runs above the cliffs to the small town and laid-back seaside resort of Luz which is a good place for a café stop. As we continue westwards on this minor road we pass scattered houses and small villages with farmland on our right side and spectacular coastal vistas on the left. We'll have lunch at Cabanas Beach and then carry on to Boca do Rio, where we stop to see an important Roman port excavation site only discovered in the last couple of years. Heading inland now to Budens, we pick up a good forest road which will take us directly back to Pedralva, with the sting in the tail of a final hill which we need to overcome before dropping down to Pedralva and our welcoming lodge base. Free time for a couple of hours and then there's an evening of wine and cheese tasting, followed by barbecue under the stars. LODGE DESCENT 450M ASCENT 500M TIME 4 HRS CYCLING HOURS DISTANCE 31KM MEALS BLD Day 6: Free day to chill-out, explore independently or try an optional outdoor activity. Today is free to relax at the lodge, take a walk, visit the beach or take part in some optional outdoor activities. The activities on offer for those wishing to do something a little more energetic include kayaking on the estuary or taking a surf lesson with a local expert. The tour guide will be able to discuss the possibilities and help you arrange your activities for this day. In the evening we will wander into nearby Pedralva to enjoy dinner at an authentic Portuguese restaurant. Tonight's dinner is not included so that you can have our own choice of menu. LODGE MEALS B Day 7: Cycle to Cabo Sao Vincente and Sagres.

PAGE 5 On this final cycling day of the holiday, we follow a small country road from Pedralva to Vila do Bispo, climbing out of the Pedralva Valley via a series of sharp switchbacks and gaining around 150 metres in the process. Once we've left the valley behind it's flat and there's quite often a tail-wind as we continue to Vila do Bispo which is a regional market town and typically Portuguese. We can stop for a coffee here and then continue on a section of cycling that is a highlight of the holiday. Leaving Vila, there's a short sharp climb to a viewpoint inside the Cabo Sao Vincente National Park. We can look ahead to the cape where the south and west coasts join. There are great coastal views as we cycle through this nature reserve which is carpeted with wild flowers in the spring. Arriving at the point with its impressive red-roofed lighthouse we will stop again for a drink and a spot of exploring. It's just a short ride from here along the south coast to Sagres, a world-famous surf town with a 15th century fort on a promontory which was built to protect the region from North African raiders. We'll take our lunch here before cycling back to Vila do Bispo via a different route and then on to our base beyond Pedralva. In the evening, back at the lodge, we will celebrate with a delicious dinner freshly prepared by our hosts and accompanied by good wine and good company. Food & Water Dietary Requirements Whilst we can cater for vegetarians, albeit sometimes with a more limited choice, we cannot provide special diets. Due to the nature of the trips that we operate and the countries in which we operate them, it can be very hard (and sometimes impossible) to cater for a wide range of dietary choices and you may have to supplement your diet with food/snacks from home. If you have specific dietary requirements please do speak to our sales team and they will be able to advise you whether or not we will be able to offer your specific choice. Please note that we are unable to provide separate menus and cannot accept liability for any problems arising from special dietary requirements or intolerances. On the 5 nights that we eat in at the lodge in the evening meals will be 3 course feasts, with local wine, juice and water. We will generally return to the lodge after our ride each day to find it filled with the comforting smells of freshly baked bread, grilling vegetables or meats, or the smoky aromas of pizza baking in the oven or notes of sugar and spice and chocolate hints of what might be that night s tasty dessert treat. A note from your hosts: We love food; good food is one of our greatest pleasures in life. We believe that the better, the fresher, the more naturally produced the original products are, the higher the quality of the meals we serve. We strive to produce foods here on the farm that are in harmony with the environment; no pesticides or unorganic fertilisers. Planting our veggie garden is a labour of love, and the crunchy salad straight from the garden is credit to this. We believe local is great and it's this greatness we search for when we visit shops and markets and our own pantry to produce meals for our guests. Herbs, spices and fresh food are our inspiration! We cook delicately spiced meat dishes, exotic vegetarian meals, tasty vegan and gluten-free feasts - Violeta can make you something special, whatever your needs and desires, but please inform us of any dietary requirements on booking.

PAGE 7 A tasty surprise this winter was the discovery that our farm produces an array of the most incredible edible mushrooms! We will take breakfast at the lodge on 6 days and this which will include fresh bread, porridge, eggs, bacon, fruit and croissants. On the bike rides we will generally carry with us a freshly prepared packed lunch, usually including a couple of rolls, fruit and a snack bar. There are 2 lunches and 2 dinners which are not included, leaving you free to sample the delicious treats offered by some of the traditional Portuguese bistros/restaurants or pick up a simple lunch from a café or bakery. Filtered water is provided at the lodge. Please fill your personal bottles for your day in the morning. Tap water is not generally drinkable. We do not encourage the purchasing of single use plastic bottles. Accommodation A unique holiday highlight is our charming eco-lodge accommodation where we will be made to feel very welcome by our friendly hosts, Jon and Violeta. Nestled amongst 150 acres of farmland close to the village of Aldeia Da Pedralva in the Cabo Sao Vincente National Park, our lodge is a beautiful, tranquil place. The building have been tastefully renovated and built to integrate into the natural splendour of the landscape. The accommodation is off grid and all its electricity comes from solar power. The rooms only have 12V, enough for the lights. The main room has 220V for charging equipment. We will be accommodated in individual cottages set among the cork oak forest and surrounded by unspoilt nature. Each room/cottage is a unique space, individually designed and offering its own cosy areas. There are 5 twin/triple/ double bedrooms, 3 with ensuite bathrooms and 2 with a shared bathroom. If you are travelling by yourself, you will be paired up with another single client(s) of the same sex. Please contact the KE office if you have specific rooming requirements. We try to ensure that everyone is happy with the rooming and will do our best to arrange this. All rooms/cottages are their own bathroom or shared bathroom, but should you wish to get back to nature, you can try the outside 'bush showers' overlooking the river. Hidden among the trees you are secluded from the outside world and can shower surrounded by nature. There is much to explore in the large grounds surrounding the accommodation, including a fruit orchard and a vegetable garden, a spring-fed fresh water lake for swimming, hammocks hanging in the shade - perfect for relaxing, a sun deck for breakfasting in the morning sun, a traditional pizza oven and an outdoor fire pit. Our evenings will be sociable as we gather around the dining table for a feast of excellent freshly home cooked Portuguese cuisine, often created from ingredients grown in the garden, or sit around the fire pit under the stars telling stories and chatting over a glass of local wine. Those seeking a little solitude might want to curl up in the lounge by the corner fireplace to read, write, drink tea or play board games. You will be incredibly well taken care of, fed and wined in the evenings. It's a winning formula and we guarantee you won't want to leave! Group Leader & Support Staff Our hosts at the accommodation will also lead the day rides. They are professional and qualified tour leaders. Spending Money Approximately 120 (or equivalent in US dollars or Euros) should cover you for non-included meals, miscellaneous expenses, tips, drinks, snacks etc... This figure does not take into account optional activities or alcoholic beverages. Some wine is included with dinners and other drinks can be paid for directly at the end of the week. Euros can be

PAGE 8 withdrawn from ATMs at Faro Airport and locally. If you are intending to buy expensive souvenirs, you should budget accordingly (credit cards can be useful in this respect). Guidance On Tipping Tipping is the accepted way of saying thank you to your leader and local team. Tipping is entirely voluntary and should be dependent on good service. We recommend that you decide levels of tipping and give any tips as a group rather than from individual group members. Optional Activities On the free day there's the option to do a half-day activity arranged by our host at the lodge. These include surf lessons or kayaking. Each activity will be led by a qualified guide and costs approx. 45 per person, this includes transfer, guide and any specialist equipment required. Activities can be arranged over the course of the week with the tour guide and will be paid for directly. Bike Hire Bikes are provided locally within the cost of the holiday. Our hosts at the eco-lodge have GT Timberline 2 mountain bikes, which are alloy-framed hardtails with Shimano components, triple chainsets (24 gears), 75mm Suntour front suspension and Shimano V-brakes. The bikes come in a range of sizes, they are well maintained and in good condition. They are fitted with flat pedals and fast-rolling all-round tyres. You can take your own pedals and even your saddle if you wish. These will be fitted for you. Please provide us with your height when you book, so we can make sure you get a bike of the appropriate size. Vehicle Support There is no vehicle support during this holiday. The rides are quite short and the group is never too far from home. If there is a mechanical breakdown or one of the group needs to take a break, the guide will call up assistance from the lodge. Free KE Gift We would like to give you a free gift as a way to say thank you when you book your holiday. Choose from exclusive KE branded t-shirts, caps, neckwarmers, trek bags* and more. Once the minimum number is reached, the trip status will change from 'Available' to 'Guaranteed to run'. You can check the trip status for each departure in Dates and Prices table. 10 PAGE 10 Preparing For Your Holiday This is intended to be a fairly leisurely holiday and you do not need to be in top physical shape to take part. However, if you are reasonably fit you will enjoy your trip more. We suggest that you adopt a sensible weekly exercise regime and fit in a number of cycle rides ahead of this holiday. Climate The Algarve enjoys a sunny Mediterranean climate with over 300 days of sunshine a year. Summers are dry and hot, but the south-western tip of the continent enjoys a mild climate all year round thanks to the influence of the ocean. Spring (April) and autumn (October) are delightful, but a little rain is possible. We can expect day time temperatures between 14 and 25 degree centigrade in either of these months. Travel Aware As a reputable tour operator, KE supports the British Foreign & Commonwealth Offices' Travel Aware campaign to enable British citizens to prepare for their journeys overseas. The 'Travel Aware' website provides a single, authoritative source of advice for all kinds of travellers and we recommend that prior to travel, all KE clients visit the official UK Government website at travelaware.campaign.gov.uk and read the FCO Travel Advice for their chosen destination. North Americans can also check out the U.S. Department of State website: for essential travel advice and tips. KE treat the safety and security of all clients as the most important aspect of any trip we organise. We would not run any trip that we did not consider reasonably safe. Should the FCO advise against travel for any reason, we will contact everyone booked to travel to discuss the situation. We receive regular updates direct from the FCO and are in constant touch with our contacts on the ground. If you have any questions about government travel advice, please call our office. Single Use Plastic KE do not encourage the use of single use plastic items. We are ensuring that our agents all over the world are working together to reduce the problem and educate those around them. We are leading by example in our KE office by reducing our plastic use. We have pledged to AITO s Project Protect that 70% of our agents stop using single use plastic bottles. Books Pocket Algarve. Lonely Planet. Algarve. Marco Polo Pocket Guide. Maps Portugal South. Group Tour Leaders All of our holidays are accompanied by an experienced leader, some of whom have worked with KE groups for many years. Many are professional guides and instructors with an unrivalled knowledge of the areas in which they work. In many parts of the world, we recruit local guides with appropriate training and experience. In addition to having the technical skills to ensure your safety, KE expects its leaders to be active members of the group. A leader should be fun to travel with and ready to share with you their enthusiasm for adventure travel and their knowledge of the area. Alongside the group leader, there will be a local support crew, which could be just a driver, or a complete team of guides, drivers, porters, mule-herders and cooks. The hard work of our support crews, along with the fascinating insight they can offer into their local culture, is integral to providing you with the very best adventure travel experience. Sustainable Tourism Since we ran our first trip in 1984, we have been committed keeping the world's most beautiful places pristine by minimising our environmental impact. Recognising the fragility of the world's wilderness environments, we keep our groups small and operate according to a Mountain Code, which is provided to all groups, trek leaders, agents and staff. We make sure that our local staff are well treated and well paid, we respect indigenous cultures, take care to protect the environment of the places we visit and take every opportunity to make a positive contribution

PAGE 12 wherever we travel. Our philosophy of 'leaving nothing but footprints' has been integral to KE's approach right from the start over 30 years ago. In recognition of our efforts we are proud to have achieved the highest award of 5 Stars for Sustainable Tourism by AITO. We continue to travel responsibly, and more information on our policy, practice, and specific projects can be found at and on the website of our partner charity the Juniper Trust: KE's Mountain Code is issued to our staff, trek leaders and overseas agents, and we recommend it to our clients, too! Booking Your Holiday The easiest way to make your booking is online. You will need to pay a deposit at the time of booking. This is normally 200 but for some holidays with special permit fees or internal flights, this may be more. The amount of deposit required for an individual holiday is given on the dates and prices page of the holiday. Late bookings will require full payment. We cannot confirm any booking until we receive your fully completed booking form. Adventure Travel Insurance It is a condition of joining any of our trips that you are insured against medical and personal accident risks (to include repatriation costs, air ambulance and helicopter rescue services). We also strongly recommend that you take out holiday cancellation insurance, as all deposits paid are non-refundable. Please ensure that your insurer is aware of your KE Adventure itinerary and can agree to cover the activities being undertaken. You will then need to advise us of your policy details and complete an Insurance Declaration Form. CAMPBELL IRVINE DIRECT travel insurance is available to EU residents and will cover the majority of KE Adventure holidays. It has been designed to provide cover for activities normally excluded by other insurers such as trekking, mountain biking and climbing. Please note that certain activities may attract a higher premium. In addition Campbell Irvine Direct cannot provide cover for KE climbing trips above 6000m. Cover for these can be obtained through either the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) or Snowcard. TRAVELEX is a USA based insurer offering travel insurance, which can be used by US citizens and US residents only. KE recommends the "Travelex Select" package for our holidays. If your holiday involves using mountaineering equipment (ropes, harness or crampons), for climbing or glacial travel, you should consider the "Adventure Plus Pak" optional upgrade on the Travelex Select Plan. Please refer to the 'Description of Coverage' for a summary of the terms, conditions, exclusions and limitations of the applicable Protection Plan. This policy will also cover KE climbing trips above 6000m. We hope that this trip notes has answered most of your questions. Please feel free to contact us and speak to one of our experts.
