2 TOURISM ENTERPRISE ZONES AND FLAGSHIP TEZS A New Look in Tourism Development
3 R.A Tourism Act of 2009 tourism is indispensable to the national economy, an important catalyst of socioeconomic growth and cultural affirmation in generating investment. Investing in tourism in the Philippines is an important yet crucial step in attaining a positive growth in the national economy and in moving towards sustainable development.
4 What is a Tourism Enterprise Zone? CRITERIA: (1) the area is capable of being defined into one contiguous territory; (2) it has historical and cultural significance, environmental beauty, or existing or potential; integrated leisure facilities within its bounds or within reasonable distances from it; (3) it has or it may have strategic access through transportation infrastructure and reasonable connection with utilities infrastructure systems; (4) it is sufficient in size such that it may be further utilized for bringing in new investments in tourism establishments and services; and (5) it is in a strategic location such as to catalyse the socio-economic development of neighbouring communities.
5 Two Types of TEZ Ordinary TEZ Initiated by the proponent (corporation, LGU/government instrumentality, Joint Venture Corporation) Must be five (5) hectares and has a minimum investment of $5 Million and managed by the private corporation Flagship TEZ The Flagship Tourism Enterprise Zones (Flagship TEZs) is a joint initiative of the DOT and TIEZA to seek out and develop areas in the Philippines with viable tourism potential.
