1 AUSTRALIA S NEWEST AND MOST LIVEABLE CITY
2 A FAST-EMERGING CITY IN THE EPICENTRE OF ONE OF AUSTRALIA S FASTEST GROWING CORRIDORS. WATCH VIDEO Cities like Greater Springfield are so important to the broader economy they create vibrant communities and engines for growth in terms of the economy. ADAM BENNETT GROUP EXECUTIVE, CBA
3 THE NEXT HORIZON For more than 25 years Greater Springfield has been blazing a trail. Australia s first master-planned, greenfield city since Canberra, the vision was always to create a new nation-building blueprint for longterm planning and future city design. Today, Greater Springfield is a fast-emerging city in the epicentre of one of Australia s fastest-growing corridors, just south of Brisbane. With half a million residents within 25 minutes of some 200,000 jobs, this burgeoning economic growth corridor is strategically positioned for new infrastructure and new jobs, comprising a new knowledge workforce, smart manufacturing and an aeronautical industry built around defence. At the heart of this growth sits Greater Springfield, with a clear vision built on health, education and information technology, and connectivity designed in its very foundation. Already, it is one of the few cities in Australia where families can work, learn and play within 10 minutes of home, a benefit for our existing nearly 40,000 residents and a drawcard for around 50,000 more as Australians pursue greater liveability beyond traditional capitals. With $15 billion invested in social and physical infrastructure so far, Greater Springfield remains steadily on track to provide at least one job for every three residents. Join Springfield City Group as we take full advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to harness world-class education, advanced healthcare and new technologies, and set a new benchmark for urban prosperity.
4 FIT FOR OUR FUTURE Australia has one of the fastest growing population rates in the developed world (to 30.5 million in 2031). [1] Greater Springfield is helping generate jobs in education and healthcare, two of the fastest growing sectors in south-east Australia. Queensland is the only mainland state in Australia with as many people living outside of its capital city as within. [2] The fastest growing industries of the future won t be based in traditional CBDs. Greater Springfield will be a key contributor to knowledge and white collar employment within south-east Queensland s western growth corridor. Education, science, tech and health-related jobs in outer business centres are expected to outstrip job growth in Brisbane CBD. 5 MESSAGE FROM THE PREMIER OF QUEENSLAND The Greater Springfield vision has grown to be a billion-dollar contributor to the Queensland economy over the last 25 years. It is now a gateway to the Western Corridor of south-east Queensland and it is one of the fastest growing emerging cities in Australia. Through the support of successive Queensland Governments over the last two decades, the project s master plan continues to attract strong private and public investment. Through this investment, Greater Springfield is generating new jobs and fostering new opportunities for Queensland. My Government acknowledges the role Greater Springfield plays connecting health, education and technology, which are so important to our State s future prosperity and essential ingredients to the Advance Queensland agenda. Greater Springfield s continued growth remains a showcase of what can be achieved through partnerships and long-term planning based on a vision. MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN Greater Springfield s ability to attract significant international and home-grown investment remains an impressive hallmark of this city-in the-making. Over fifteen billion dollars of investment so far, and that figure will climb steadily as construction starts on a number of long-term accommodation and other infrastructure projects. It s that growth which continues to cement Greater Springfield as the economic engine room of South East Queensland s Western Corridor, as well as being one of the fastest developing areas in Australia. We have become renowned for the longevity of our innovative masterplan. In 2010, that underpinning blue print, which anchors this city to interactive pillars of health, education and technology was declared world s best. In acknowledging our 25th anniversary, the Prime Minister, The Hon Malcolm Turnbull MP, also recognised the increasing importance of Greater Springfield s contribution to the nation, by setting valuable insights on how cities of the future should be planned. Our community, which will soon number close to 40,000 and those establishing businesses and interests here are the real beneficiaries of that architecture. We have a supersized CBD and an employment target of one job for every three residents. That s good news for families, the region we service and the state we support. The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk MP Premier of Queensland and Minister for the Arts Maha Sinnathamby Chairman, Springfield City Group
