37 CHALLENGING SCENARIOS As you are working with your travel group to plan your trip itinerary, your cotrip advisor is making sarcastic suggestions and derailing the conversation. What do you do? On the trip, your co-advisor wants one adult to carry everyone s passports. You disagree and feel it is important to have the girls be responsible for their own passports. What steps to you take to resolve this issue? After reviewing the health forms, you and your co-trip advisor learn that Janie has issues with wetting her bed. Your co-advisor announces to the group that everyone has to make sure that Janie uses the bathroom at night before everyone goes to bed. What steps do you take to fix this situation? What steps could you have taken to avoid it? While on a trip to India, the van driver who is going to drive your group to the next location is 25 minutes late. When he arrives, your co-advisor starts getting angry and yelling at him in front of the girls. What do you do? Your travel group is on a crowded city bus in Costa Rica. Part way through the ride your co-advisor states this bus smells like dirty Mexicans. How would you address this situation with your co-advisor and the girls on the trip? It is the third day of an activity packed trip to Washington D.C. The whole group is gathered in the lobby and prepared to depart for a tour of the White House. Your co-trip advisor is still upstairs and running late again! Advisor's Workbook - The Travel Pathway Revised Jan 2014 Page 33

47 TRIP PROGRESSION Through Girl Scouts, girls can participate in four different types of travel opportunities: 1. Local: travel or trips within the city or area 2. Regional: travel or trips within the state or surrounding areas 3. National: travel or trips throughout the United States 4. International: Global travel opportunities Within these types of travel, several trip options exist. This list is not exhaustive, and there are certainly other websites you can visit to find out more. Half the fun of planning a trip is exploring what options are available to you so this is just a good place to start! Type of Travel Description Find out More Ecotourism Destinations Service Projects Travel to fragile, pristine, and usually protected areas that strives to be low impact and (often) small scale. It helps educate the traveler; provides funds for conservation; directly benefits the economic development and political empowerment of local communities; and fosters respect for different cultures and for human rights.
