1 4 12/20/1968 Lenape Vo-Tech Joint Board saw the preliminary drawings of enlarging the building in Manor Township. A new academic wing as well as a new vocational wing would be added. The estimated cost is just over $3 million. 12/20/1968 Four persons were injured in a two-car accident on Route 85, five miles east of Kittanning. Marilyn Heberling, 19, of Home RD1 was reported in satisfactory condition at the Kittanning hospital. William Myers, 21, of Worthington and his wife, Doris, 22, were both listed in satisfactory condition. Their son David, age six months, was treated for a fracture of the left arm and released. The mishap occurred at about 6AM today. 12/20/1968 Housing Authority Executive Director Michael Caruso said the Lee Haven Towers, an eight-story, 60-unit senior citizens Thursday December 20, 2018 housing project, will be ready for occupancy in January. It was erected at a cost of $904,927, not including property or architectural fees. The building is located at Main and Second Streets in Leechburg. 12/20/1968 Members of the Armstrong County Planning Commission last night discussed at length the need for and value of a long-range capital improvement plan for the county. Such a plan would encompass county parks, sewer and water program needs, a county airport, county home, other county building needs and major projects with which the county may be faced with in the future. Revived plans for a county airport being developed by the county Airport Authority suggested an airport site. No action was taken. 12/20/ A Kittanning young man, now a student at Mount St. Mary's College, Emmitsburg, MD, has taken to the current folk music craze in a big way. He is Michael Bridge of 551 Hawthorne Ave., Kittanning. Bridge is singing and strumming with a trio billed as the Blue Ridge Singers. 12/20/ The Armstrong Airys Caravan of Syria Shrine Temple of Pittsburgh was in- One Call, We Do It All Custom Cleaning done your way at an affordable price. Snyder and William Haile of the Syria Divan. 12/20/ A community carol sing will be sponsored again this year by the Junior Chamber of Commerce in front of the Farmers Bank Building. The Jaycees are sponsoring the event for the 2nd year in an effort to keep the spirit of community Christmas caroling alive. 12/20/ The Alumni proved too strong for Ford City HS passers as they won /20/ Season's first snow makes good sledding; perilous road travel. 12/20/ Burglars rifled a safe at the William GMC garage, N McKean St., sometime over the weekend and carried away about $75 in cash and approximately 400 vehicle inspection stickers. 12/20/ The Executive Board of the Butler-Armstrong Area Boy Scout Council voted last week to change the name of the council to Pioneer Trails Council. 12/20/ J.J. Meier, 40, of Sligo, fireman on PA Railway's Sligo branch freight train, suffered a fracture of the ankle, railway official ones said, when the Sligo train crashed into the caboose of a shifter train at Red Bank. 12/20/ From North Apollo came a report today that 87 students and a teacher were absent from school because of illness. It was decided The Kittanning Paper to close the school on Monday and begin the Christmas vacation earlier than planned. 12/20/ WantedOne winter conditioned town clock! Anyone having same please notify Ted Lindeman, who is getting good and tired of trying to keep Kittanning's principal chronometer on time. The venerable timepiece atop the McCullough building maintains a relatively even tenor during the summer, behaving for all the world like the sedate and even tempered lady she ought to be. But come winter, it seems, she's as temperamental as a $25,000 prima donna. 12/20/ Christmas came a week early for waitresses and hatcheck boys at the Steim Hotel. Members of Kittanning Rotary Club presented them with a purse that was collected at the regular meeting of the club in the hotel dining room. 12/20/ Harry G. Luker, justice of the peace who was elected at the general election in November to assume office on January 1, will occupy rooms formerly used by Justice of the Peace Frank M. Wray at 330 Market St. 12/20/ Funeral services for Dr. Samuel J. McMains, a pioneer Leechburg civic leader and booster for all good things in the Kiski Valley, were held at Leechburg United Presbyterian Church of which he was a trustee. 12/20/ John B. McPherson, a former resident of Kittanning and a Civil War veteran, died in Douglas, Alaska on December 15. Concert Fills Auditorium With Holiday Tunes The annual holiday concert was held last night in the Armstrong Junior-Senior High School auditorium. (photo submitted via Facebook from Bill Evans)
