3 Introduction Welcome to Getting to Football ! As the name suggests, this little volume provides directions to football grounds (and some other sporting venues) for the spectator who prefers to travel to games by public transport. It is my intention that a revised version will be released every month or so during the football season, and will incorporate corrections and changes since the previous edition. This first version is current for August and September 2018; the next release will be at the start of October. This work has its roots in a website which I ran a few years back. For various reasons I found myself unable to keep that website up to date, but I now have the time to do the thing properly, and I ve alighted on this new format which is considerably easier to work with. A full table of contents will be found on the next page, but about half of the work is taken up with details of every team in English football from the Premier League down to Step 6. I also cover the top two levels of football in Ireland, the top three levels of football in Northern Ireland, football in Scotland from the Scottish Premiership down to all of the Senior and Junior Leagues, and the top three levels of football in Wales. There is also limited coverage of some other sports. For the present, that is the top level of both men s and women s hockey in England, the top five levels of rugby union in England, the top three levels of rugby union in Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, and the top level of shinty in Scotland. The next sport to be covered will be rugby league, which will feature here in time for the 2019 season, while a couple of other sports are under consideration. The entries should be largely self explanatory. For every team, the address of the ground is given, followed by the name of the most convenient railway station (or in a few cases, ferry port) to which to travel. In most but not all cases this is the nearest railway station. The = symbol denotes a railway station forming part of the National Rail system in Great Britain (and equivalents outside Great Britain). The symbol denotes a railway station served by a light railway or tram (Blackpool Tramway, Docklands Light Railway, Edinburgh Trams, Glasgow Subway, London Tramlink, London Underground, Luas, Manchester Metrolink, Nottingham Express Transit, Sheffield Supertram, Tyne and Wear Metro, and West Midlands Metro), while the π symbol denotes a ferry port. After that, I provide directions from that railway station to the ground. If the distance from station to ground is less than miles, then only walking directions are given. The abbreviations L and R stand for left and right! If it is further than that, then details of bus services are given where a suitable bus service exists. The symbol ø (reversed in Italy because Italy drives on the right!) denotes a bus. All of the entries are to the best of my knowledge correct at the time of going to press, but I am afraid that I can accept no responsibility for any errors. If you spot one, please let me know by (edwardsandrewd@yahoo.co.uk) and I will correct it for the next release. I must thank assorted correspondents, most of them members of Tony s Non-League Forum ( for their valuable contributions and corrections to the six draft versions of this work which I have released during the long hot summer. Most of the content of this work is in the public domain, but I assert ownership of that part of the content which is not. Should any club or league wish to use part of the content in a programme or on a website then please contact me about this. Except as regards full time professional clubs and the leagues in which they play there will be no fee attached to use of the information, but I shall be disappointed if I find the information being used without reference to me.
