WASCA was formed in October 1956 to provide an organizational structure to host a regional Spring Festival in the greater Washington DC area. The first few festivals were held at a major Washington DC hotel. In 1992, the festivals were held in Reston, Virginia in March of each year. Starting in March 2006, the Festival will be held at the HILTON ALEXANDRIA MARK CENTER HOTEL, ALEXANDRIA VA. WASCA cooperates with the National Capital Area Square Dance Leaders Association (NCASDLA) and the Round Dance Teachers Association (RDTA) activities in provide publicity and other assistance to promote Square and Round Dancing and to assist clubs. The board members have been active in setting up parades, demonstrations, and other activities to promote dancing and clubs in our area. WASCA produces a publication, Calls'n'Cues, for their members giving them the opportunity to communicate what each club is doing and who is doing it. Dance information and special articles about Round and Square Dancing are included. The mission of WASCA is and always has been to join forces of individuals and their clubs to accomplish what cant be done by an individual or club. The greater Washington DC area has about 85 clubs with thousands of dancers. The area WASCA clubs encompass four states: Virginia, Maryland, parts of Delaware, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. Dancing occurs at all levels every day of the week. You will be able to dance somewhere in the area. Square and Round Dance Classes are taught year round in the area. Contra and Clogging are taught too!
