2 Advisory and Consulting Services are part of the package we offer. Each project receives individual design consideration to best suit its specific purpose. Our projects have ranged from small two sheet curling rinks, commercial multi rink facilities, large multi purpose arenas, to the Winter Olympic Games. Other projects include ice plants powered by natural gas engines, ground freezing units for construction in unstable soil conditions, and numerous other specialty projects. After-sales service is important, and at present we service many rinks throughout western Canada. We have had extensive involvement in the U.S. Market, doing rink projects in New Hampshire, Illinois, Tennessee, West Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New York, Michigan, Indiana, Missouri, Texas, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Wisconsin, California, Ohio, Colorado, Oklahoma, Iowa, Idaho, Alabama, Kentucky, Washington, and Nevada. Gateway also has completed many projects in Canada, New Zealand, Scotland, Japan and Russia. Gateway Mechanical is a 40 year old company, one of the largest refrigeration companies in Canada. We are engaged in other aspects of the mechanical contracting business including HVAC, Supermarket Refrigeration, Industrial Refrigeration, Refrigeration for Natural Gas Processing, Plumbing, Sheet Metal and Electrical. 16 ICE RINK DIVISION Unique Projects Completed Engineering and installation of rink floor and sloping curved ice pathway for the movie set, Mystery Alaska, a Walt Disney production. Gateway (formerly Pace) received a call on a Friday, indicating the unexpected warm weather had melted the natural ice surfaces on a movie set in Canmore, Alberta, bringing shooting to a halt. Our personnel were on site Monday, and had a system in place allowing shooting to start again within 10 days. We utilized a large portable ammonia system (280 Tons) built by Gateway for this type of mobile, temporary application. Gateway was also involved with building special effects props for the Batman Mr. Freeze movie. Designed and installed a temporary 60 x 160 ice surface on the roof of two story connecting portion of New York World Trade Center. Were instrumental in the development of frozen conductor pipes to prevent "thaw back" under drilling rigs in the Delta portion of the Arctic exploration program. These refrigerated conductors have become standard equipment for production wells in the Arctic. Developed freezing points to stabilize "Quick Sand" conditions to allow deep sewer construction in municipalities with problem soil conditions. Developed a frozen pad to enable construction of an overpass for a new freeway system, and support pads for large cranes. Designed and built the largest portable ice rink refrigeration system in the world. It is contained in a 52' highway trailer with a capacity of 280 Tons. This unit (owned by Los Tres Papagayos of Los Angeles), has been used by the NHL for outdoor games and by others for temporary outdoor skating facilities all across the nation. Engineered and installed a complete artificial ice system where 3 phase electric power was not available. Natural gas engine was used to drive the compressor and pumps from a common shaft. This allowed a small northern community to have an ice rink, which otherwise would not have been able to.
