5 EXCURSIONS - EASY DAY EXCURSIONS Western Lakes & Grey Glacier* Walking distance: 0.8km / 0.5mi Max altitude point: >200m / >660ft Estimated walking time: 0.45h We drive across the Park with views of Paine Grande and its snowy peaks, as well as Los Cuernos - the majestic black horn-like peaks of the famous granite towers and one of the most iconic sights of Torres del Paine National Park. We stop at various viewpoints on the way to observe and photograph herds of guanacos, Andean condors and other interesting fauna and flora. We drive down to stunning Lake Pehoe and take a scenic walk along the tip of its southern shores, with views of the vast Lake Toro. From here we drive to Lake Grey and wander along the beach on the shores of the glacial water. After relaxing with a box-lunch by the lake, we embark on a boat ride across the icy waters to the towering blue-coloured walls of Grey Glacier. After this incredible close-up view of the glacier, we drive back to EcoCamp. *During Shoulder Season (September, October, April & May) the navigation on Grey Glacier may be cancelled if the boat does not reach the minimum of 10 passengers required to sail. If this is the case we will plan an alternative excursion in the Park. Laguna Azul Walking distance: 5km / 3mi Max altitude point: 200m / 660ft Estimated walking time: 2h We start the day by driving towards Laguna Azul in the north eastern side of the Park. On our way to Laguna Azul we will have the chance to enjoy some fantastic views of the famous Torres, as well as passing through the Pampa Guanaco, where we should be able to spot many elegant guanacos and even hop out of the van to walk amongst them. After soaking up these beautiful surroundings, we continue our drive to Laguna Azul, where a picnic lunch will have been prepared for us. We eat our picnic lunch looking out over the lake, with a view of the three granite towers in the distance. After lunch, we will walk south to Macho Cañon, where we can observe the typical fauna of the Torres del Paine National Park, including more guanaco herds. From here we will return by vehicle to EcoCamp in time for cocktail hour. 5.

6 Salto Grande & El Condor Lookout Walking distance: 6km / 4mi Max altitude point: >500m / >1640ft Estimated walking time: 4h After breakfast, we head westwards by van, taking a route along the southern shore of Lake Nordenskjold. Our first stop is the magnificent Salto Grande Waterfall, with its impressive cascading waters falling from Lake Nordenskjold into Lake Pehoe. From here it is a short walk to Cuernos viewpoint, with a panoramic view of the mighty Horns. From the viewpoint we drive to Lake Pehoe and begin the two hour round-trip walk from its shores to El Condor Lookout. We go gently uphill through the steppe vegetation which gives us a great opportunity to learn about the local flora. Here we witness the piercing blue colour of Lake Pehoe and the Paine River. On a clear day we can see the immensity of the Southern Patagonian ice fields in the distance. We re-energize by taking in the vista of the whole Paine Mountain range and its stunning snow-capped peaks. After lunch in this perfect location, we backtrack along the same trail and the drive back to EcoCamp. Sarmiento Lake & Fauna Trail Walking distance: 6km / 4mi Max altitude point: >200m / >660ft Estimated walking time: 5h This predominantly flat trek boasts stunning, diverse natural scenery and offers the chance to 6.

7 feast your eyes on a startlingly blue lake that is secluded from all the other water systems of the area. There will be ample opportunity to spot many graceful guanacos and great grebes along the way. First we will examine the geology of the area s rock folds, before descending the isthmus that separates Lake Sarmiento from Lake Sarmiento Chico (the two lakes were once a single mass of water), walking along a slight slope and ambling beside the eastern edge of Lake Sarmiento Chico. We eventually arrive at an impressive bay on the western side of Lake Sarmiento. Here, we begin our ascent back to the van, along a path that takes us past a panoramic view of Lake Sarmiento from its western shore, looking towards its eastern coast glimmering on the horizon. We then drive eastwards along the northern shore of Lake Sarmiento until we reach the starting point of the Fauna Trail. As we walk northwards along the trail we see Patagonian park fauna including guanacos, ostrich-like ñandús and maybe the occasional puma print! We pass picturesque Goic Lagoon and after a relaxed 5 km walk, we reach the Laguna Amarga Ranger Station where we will be picked up and driven back to EcoCamp. 7.

8 EXCURSIONS - ACTIVE EXCURSIONS Western Lakes & Hike to Cerro Ferrier Hiking distance: 6km / 4mi Max altitude point: >700m / >2300ft Estimated hiking time: 3h We begin the day by driving across the Park, admiring the view of Paine Grande and its snowy peaks and the black, granite, horn-like spires of Los Cuernos. As we walk along the shores of stunning Lake Pehoe, we will see the powerful Salto Grande Waterfalls where the water from Lake Nordenskjold cascades down into Pehoe. We continue by van south to a beach along the shores of glacial Lake Grey. From here, we begin our hike to Cerro Ferrier, a fairly steep route taking us through a picturesque Magellanic forest where we may spot the Huemul, the endangered South Andean deer. We continue uphill for about an hour and a half to reach a breath-taking lookout offering us a unique perspective on the Paine Massif, Grey Glacier and some of the most famous lakes of the National Park. We walk back to Grey Beach to meet our fellow travellers returning from the boat ride and head back to EcoCamp together to enjoy a relaxed evening. Tower Base Trek Trek distance: 22km / 14mi Max altitude point: 914m / 3000ft Estimated walking time: 9h After breakfast, we set off from EcoCamp towards neighbouring Hostería Las Torres and join the uphill path to Ascencio Valley on the Tower s eastern face. Mountain ridges, beech forests and small rivers line the scenic walk towards the valley. Our big challenge comes as we climb the steep moraine, a mass of boulders leading us towards one of the world s most famous views overlooking the Towers. The famous Torres del Paine (2,900 m/ 9,400 ft.) consist of three gigantic granite monoliths, the remains of a great cirque sheared away by the forces of glacial ice. After an uphill slog, the Towers eventually come into full view, rising majestically before us with the glacial lake visible below. Is there any better place in the world to have lunch? After feasting on the view and our picnic, we backtrack along the same trail through Ascencio Valley and return to EcoCamp. 8.

9 Lake Pehoe Crossing & Hike French Valley Hiking distance: 21km / 13mi Max altitude point: >200m / >660ft Estimated hiking time: 8h After breakfast, we drive to Pudeto dock, located on the shores of Lake Pehoe and board the catamaran that will take us to the north western sector of the lake. From here we begin the challenging trek to Valle Frances (French Valley) along a steep trail that leads to the very heart of the Paine Massif. How far we go will depend on the trekking rhythm of the group. A swifter walk will lead us to the hanging bridge over French River, located at the foot of the southeast face of the Massif, where we will be treated to spectacular views of the valley. We continue to ascend towards the upper section of the valley and are able to marvel at the extensive mass of the valley s geological formations. These include La Hoja (The Blade, 1,950m), La Máscara (The Mask, 1,850m), La Espada (The Sword, 2,050m), Cerro Catedral (Cathedral Hill, 2,220m), Aleta de Tiburón (Shark s Fin, 1,850m) and the magnificent Cerro Fortaleza (Fort Hill, 3,000m). After our upward trek, we will stop for a picnic and to relax a while. We then descend through an undulating terrain of mixed grassland and light forest that will take us to Refugio Paine Grande, located on the peaceful shores of Lake Pehoe. From here, we will board the catamaran that will take us back to Pudeto, where we will be collected and transported back to EcoCamp. An optional trek to Mirador Britanico (British Viewpoint) is also available. 9.

10 Please Note: The excursion to French Valley varies throughout the season depending on the catamaran connecting Pudeto and Refugio Pehoe: During September, October, April and May (shoulder season) the catamaran service will be out of operation. Therefore, the excursion will be replaced by a journey from Estancia Lazo to Weber Bridge. From 1st to 15th of November: Hiking is limited and restricted past Camp Italiano. From 16th of November till 15th of March: excursion operates on a regular basis. From 16th of March till 31st of March: Hiking is limited and restricted past Camp Italiano. Trek Cerro Paine Hiking distance: 16km / 9mi Max altitude point: >1200m / >3937ft Estimated hiking time: 7h We leave EcoCamp after breakfast and head to Cerro Paine, a nearby mountain characterized by its two imposing peaks. We hike along the mountain for half an hour, which allows us to warm up while admiring the view of the surrounding pampas. The challenge starts as we begin climbing the eastern part of Cerro Paine. We cross the lenga forest with the sound of the local birds accompanying us and enjoy a few stops to observe the immense Almirante Nieto Mountain and its glacier on our left side. With any luck we will follow the tracks of the puma as the Towers come into full view. We stop here for lunch. We are then ready to start the steepest part of the hike, leaving the forest to begin hiking on rock. As we ascend, we can admire the spectacular panoramic view of the immense pampas and the mountains in the distance, including Balmaceda Mountain. We climb for about an hour to reach the eastern peak of Cerro Paine at 1200m/3937ft, offering an unforgettable lookout over the Towers and the Ascencio Valley. After taking in one of the most striking views of the National Park, we backtrack along the same trail and return to EcoCamp. 10.

DAY 1: Transfer from Punta Arenas to Torres del Paine EcoCamp This morning, we meet you at the airport or at your hotel in Punta Arenas to drive to EcoCamp Patagonia located in the world famous Torres del Paine National Park. En-route we stop in the town of Puerto Natales, a small but lively town on the shores of Seno Ultima Esperanza to enjoy a lunch of delicious local food. We continue on, making a second stop at the Cueva de Milodon (Milodon Cave), a massive prehistoric cave where the remains of a giant ground sloth were discovered in the 1890 s. The scenic journey takes us through beautiful Patagonian landscapes to arrive at EcoCamp inside the park in the afternoon. In the evening enjoy a hearty dinner and take advantage of the camp s relaxed social quarters to meet the guides and prepare for the adventure ahead. Overnight at EcoCamp in a Standard Dome. The internationally acclaimed Torres del Paine National Park is Chile s premier trekking destination and boasts panoramic scenery, incredible wildlife and diverse ecosystems. Declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1978, Torres del Paine is considered to be one of the most magnificent, untouched places on earth. DAY 2: Short W Trek - Valle Frances After breakfast, we drive through Torres del Paine National Park towards Pudeto Dock on the shores of Lake Pehoe. Here we board the catamaran that takes us to the north western area of the lake from where we begin the challenging trek to Valle Frances (French Valley) along a steep trail that leads to the very heart of the Paine Massif. French Valley is considered to be one of the most beautiful places in the Park and indeed the world. The high altitude valley is ringed by a curtain of almost vertical rock that creates an amphitheatre of granite walls and spires. It is famous for its 360 degree panoramic views of Los Cuernos, French Glacier and Lago Nordenskjold. How far 11.

From October 1st to November 15th and from March 16th through April the navigation operates only once a day, therefore the hike will be limited and only reach Italian campsite. From November 16th to March 15th the excursion operates on a regular basis. DAY 3: Short W Trek Grey Glacier Today we hike from Refugio Paine Grande along the shores of Lake Pehoe to the northern side of beautiful glacial Lake Grey. We enjoy a picnic lunch before boarding the boat to sail to the huge blue crystalline face of Grey Glacier. There is plenty of time to marvel at this calving glacier before the boat continues across Lake Grey weaving its way through the floating pieces of ice to the southern end of the glacier. Once on shore we transfer to EcoCamp. Occasionally weather conditions may prevent us from sailing across the lake, or during Shoulder Season (October and April) the sailing may be cancelled if the boat does not reach the minimum of 10 passengers needed to sail. In this case we will trek up to a sightseeing point offering spectacular views of the glacier. Since the Suite Domes are powered by solar panel generators, electricity is very limited inside the domes and so devices such as hairdryers and electric shavers are not permitted. Camera batteries, laptops and other devices can be charged in the Community Domes at EcoCamp. Inside Suite Domes Spacious 28m² / 300ft² area Open terrace to read, relax and admire the view Enclosed porch to hang wet clothing 21.

22 Comfortable king-size or twin beds Low-emission wood stove Patagonian decor Propane heater in bathroom Private fully-equipped bathroom State of the art composting toilet Standard Domes The 10 m²/108 ft² Standard Domes have wooden floors and are 2.1 m/ 7 ft. high allowing two people to sleep and stand comfortably inside. They are resistant to the fierce Patagonian winds, rain and snow, being well insulated to minimize the exchange of temperature. The domes have a panoramic window as well as ceiling windows allowing you to gaze up at the night sky and they feature two single beds with fleece sheets, blankets and quilts. EcoCamp s Standard Domes offer large, comfortable shared bathrooms that are gender divided. Shared bathrooms are more environmentally friendly, with water being better controlled and with waste being collected in a central heated composting chamber. Both male and female bathrooms have showers with ample space to dry and put on clothes, hot water, composting toilets and hand wash basins. They are decorated with Patagonian decor and receive ample sunlight during the day. Towels are provided on arrival and guests are asked to use the same towels during their stay. Standard Domes do not have electricity but there is LED lighting throughout EcoCamp and laptops, cameras and other devices can be charged in Community Domes. 22.

An exclusive toll-free emergency number will be available for clients if they need additional support once they are in Chile. Weather & Climate The vast unbroken stretch of ocean to the west and south of the South American continent leaves the Patagonian Andes very exposed to the saturated winds that circle the Antarctic landmass. The strong marine influence and the effect of the Southern Patagonian Ice field also make the weather hard to predict. In spring or early summer, fine weather may deteriorate almost without warning, bringing rain and even snow. Even in summer (December to March) you should come prepared for strong, cold winds (up to 130 km/hr) and rainfall. The summer s average temperature is 11 C/52 F (24 C max, 2 C min). 27.

28 Rest assured, however, since just as quickly as the weather turns nasty, it can become pleasantly warm! Night-time temperatures generally range from -1 C to -5 C (30 s to 40 s F). Physical Demands This trip does not demand physical activity other than walking a maximum of two consecutive hours over mainly flat terrain with as many stops as necessary to fit in with the rhythm of the group. You need to be more energetic and have a higher level of fitness to take part in the active excursions. To enjoy these treks it is essential that you are in shape before arriving. All trails visited in the programs are below 1,000 m / 3,000 ft. so there should be no problems with altitude. *Please note that all travellers aged 60 years and above must complete an EcoCamp medical form. Please contact your Chimu Adventures sales consultant for more information and a copy of the form. What to Bring Passengers need to be prepared for all weather conditions and bring at least two changes of clothes. Some essential equipment is a small day pack (10 litres, to carry camera, water bottle, sunglasses, rain jacket, etc.), trekking or hiking boots (well-worn in), extra shoes for evenings or in case boots get wet, waterproof jacket (Gore-Tex jacket recommended), two pairs of wool socks plus thin inner socks, fleece jacket or sweater, wool/fleece hat & gloves, shorts or comfortable loose pants, sun protection (sunglasses, sunhat, lip balm and sunscreen) and optional thermal underwear for the upper and lower body. Trekking poles are optional but highly recommended. US$ cash for buying extra drinks/snacks or souvenirs in Torres del Paine NP is also recommended as is a small flashlight or headlamp with spare batteries, personal first aid kit and dry sacks for protecting cameras etc. If you wish to hire gear, does provide rental gear such as sleeping bags, mats and trekking poles. Please contact Chimu Adventures for more information on equipment hire in. *Please note that the Short W Trek and the 7-day W Trek both include sleeping bags during your stay. Itinerary Modifications The weather in Patagonia can be unpredictable and difficult to deal with at times. We reserve the right to change the order of the days in any itinerary under the sole discretion of the trip guide and based on operational considerations. The trip guide can also modify, change or eliminate part of the itinerary based on safety/weather considerations. 28.

29 Passenger Flight Information Chimu Adventures requires that passengers send through their flight arrival and departure details at least one month before their departure date, to enable us to co-ordinate your trip with EcoCamp and avoid any issues. When sending flight details, please ensure that you send your flight number, arrival and departure time and the airline reference number for your flights. National Park Rules Torres del Paine is a National Park and as such enjoys protection by Chile s National Forestry Corporation, who are in charge of ensuring legal and environmental standards are met. The Park s ecosystems are fragile and precaution needs to be taken to ensure wildlife is protected from potential harm caused by visitors. The following rules apply inside the National Park to ensure no harm is caused to the wildlife and ecosystems: Lighting fires is prohibited in all circumstances Only walk on marked paths or paths indicated by a guide Plan your hike according to the path closing times Only camp in authorised campsites, for your safety Remember that conditions are extreme in Patagonia and any carelessness can be fatal If you see something you consider a risk, alert a park ranger or guide immediately Ceasefire! Causing forest fires is a crime punishable by law 29.
