Our naturalists share local lore and explain how dolphins use sound to hunt. While exploring, look for onk saki and squirrel onkeys. (D Aloft) Day 2 Saturday Lia / Iquitos / Ebark riverboat / aazon river Tour historic Lia, visiting the Cathedral, Plaza de Aras, and the onastery and catacobs of the Iglesia de San Francisco. Fly over the Andes to Iquitos where we board our riverboat. Enjoy stargazing and storytelling with our local guides while cruising slowly on the Aazon River toward the confluence of the Marañón and Ucayali Rivers. (B,L,D) Day 3 Sunday origin of the Aazon River / Río Ucayali Wake to the ever-changing panoraa of rain forest life. Our first exploration, at the origin of this ighty river, navigates the waterways aboard stable excursion boats to areas where we ay find arsh birds such as oriole blackbirds, green ibis and yellowheaded caracaras. Venture into the flooded varzea in search of a variety of birds, giant water lilies, onkeys and sloths. (B,L,D) Day 5 Tuesday Río pacaya / pacaya-sairia Reserve This orning, enjoy a peaceful breakfast along the blackwater Sapote Creek. Excursion boats grant us deeper access to this vast wetland as we continue to the Pacaya-Sairia Reserve. At night, board excursion boats and perhaps walk in the rain forest for a chance to find caians, capybaras, coon potoos, frogs and nocturnal wildlife. (B,L,D) Day 6 Wednesday Río pacaya / pacaya-sairia Reserve Once we reach the depths of the reserve, we hike through the igapó (seasonally flooded forest). Lucky guests ay release turtle hatchlings. On an afternoon excursion we search for scarlet acaws, hoatzins, black-collared hawks and red howler onkeys. (B,L,D) Day 7 Thursday Río Ucayali / pacaya-sairia Reserve Learn about the lives of the Ribereño people as we visit a village perched on the riverbanks. This is a fantastic opportunity to stroll through their gardens learning about edicinal plants fro the village shaan, visit a school or join in a gae of soccer. (B,L,D) Day 9 Saturday Iquitos / Lia / depart Disebark in Iquitos. Enjoy a tour of this frontier city, visiting the Las Malvinas garden project after lunch. Drive into the historic Urubaba Valley, stopping in Chinchero to browse and shop for Andean handicrafts and alpaca sweaters. Visit the Urubaba Market and spend the night at the Aranwa Hotel. (B,L,D) Machu Picchu Cusco Day 11 Monday Machu Picchu Board the train to Machu Picchu, where we spend the afternoon exploring the ruins with our guide. Our hoe for the next two nights is the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel. (B,L,D) Day 12 Tuesday Machu Picchu Today is yours to explore Machu Picchu or siply relax! Wake up early and hike to the Sun Gate or enjoy soe early orning birding in the abundant gardens surrounding our hotel. (B,L,D) Day 13 Wednesday Ollantaytabo / Sacsayhuaán / Cusco Catch the orning train back to the Sacred Valley. Explore the ighty archaeological wonder of Ollantaytabo, built to protect the Sacred Valley. After a Paso Fino horse show at Wayra Ranch, continue across the valley toward Cusco. We stop at Sacsayhuaán a huge fortress of assive stones which zigzags across the side of the ountain. Spend two nights at the Aranwa Hotel.
