Why invest in Pontevedra? There are many reasons why companies should choose the province of Pontevedra for their investments: it is a strategic location in the intercontinental market; its dynamism and business activities; its high human resource capacity; its infrastructures, etc.

Strategic geographical location Pontevedra is a natural point of entry/exit by sea into the EU, a market of more than 495 million consumers with high purchasing power. It also offers a point of direct access to the Spanish and Portuguese markets, which together total more than 56 million people with high purchasing power. Pontevedra, A Coruña and Porto, together form the big economic axis of the Atlantic Arc. This strategic location has been further strengthened by the communication infrastructures which have been created over the last few years, plus those which are now in the pipeline.

The dynamic centre of the Galicia-Northern Portugal Euroregion Pontevedra forms the centre of the Atlantic Euroregion, consisting of the region of Galicia and the North of Portugal. There is presently a strong social, economic and cultural relationship in this area, the objective of which is to drive transborder cooperation and promote the joint development of the regions of both countries. This Euroregion is also one of the areas included in the INTERREG transborder community cooperation programme, an EU initiative financed by FEDER, which aims to support transborder, transnational and inter-regional operations. The area has a population of 6.5 million inhabitants, and extends over some 50,853 Km 2, giving a population density of 128 inhabitants per km 2. The Galicia - North of Portugal Euroregion, has undergone a significant increased in its economic and trade relationships over the last few years: Portugal is Pontevedra s second most important client, and accounts for more than 12% of the province's foreign sales. It is also Pontevedra s second most important provider, supplying almost 15% of the province s foreign purchases.

Modern infrastructures Pontevedra has significant, modern infrastructures. The following are especially worthy of note: The motorway network: The province s landbased communications provide easy access to the main urban centres in both Galicia and the rest of Spain. The province's road accesses respond to the following two requirements: On the one hand, the need to provide communication links along the entire length of this side of the Iberian Peninsula. The AP-9 motorway performs this function, linking Galicia from North to South (A Coruña Tui). The motorway then joins the A-3 motorway in Portugal, which continues on to Lisbon. On the other hand, the need to communicate Galicia with the rest of the Iberian Peninsula, and as such, with the rest of Europe. This is achieved via

the A-52 motorway, which joins the A-6 motorway to Madrid in Benavente. There are also a series of road and dual-carriageways linking the main economic centres in the province. The Galician railway system will include the AVE (a project which is currently being executed) - a high-speed railway link which will communicate the main Galician cities with Madrid, with a maximum journey time of 2 hours and 59 minutes. The AVE link which will link Pontevedra to the rest of the Peninsula and the connection with Portugal will become a reality in the near future. Vigo has its own Free Trade Zone, the only one to currently exist in the Northwest of Spain. The province of Pontevedra has three ports of general interest: Vigo, Marín Pontevedra, and

motorway between Spain and France, its infrastructures need to be reorganised and extended. The Vigo Port initiative, along with other initiatives which have already been presented, such as the extension of the Areal and Transversal docks, are designed to extend the docking area for transatlantic cruisers and pleasure ships, in order to increase these types of visits. Peinador airport located on the outskirts of the city of Vigo, is a regional airport with a distinct international character. Peinador airport is just a fifteen minute car ride from the heart of the city, and offers daily flights to Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Valencia, the Canary Islands, London and Paris, thus providing connections with other national and international airports. Vilagarcía. The province s ports of general interest have received a large amount of investment over the last few years. They form part of one of the main international maritime routes. Vigo port is one of the principal exporting ports in Spain, and is currently the European leader and third in the entire world in terms of fish catches. Director Plan: In order to adapt Vigo airport to future flight traffic demands a series of important initiatives have been planned: such as the extension of the terminal building and the airport s car parks. The airport will thus have the infrastructures and systems required to attend to passengers and airplanes alike, ensuring the highest level of quality and safety in its services. Plan to extend and improve Vigo port: In order to continue in its leading position with regard to other nearby ports, and to confirm its key role in Vigo metropolitan area logistics and intermodal transport, and its condition as the head of the Mar

Industrial estates The 30 industrial estates which currently exist in the province of Pontevedra, and which have business activity, cover a total of almost 12 million square metres. We can then add almost a further 6.7 million square metres for the industrial areas associated with the province s large ports. A further 10 million square metres can then be added to these totals for planned industrial land, or industrial land currently being prepared. These areas include: Estate name Municipality Developer Total area (m 2 ) PLISAN Salvaterra-As Neves Autoridad Portuaria - Zona Franca - Xestur P.E. VAL DO TEA Ponteareas Xestur P.E.
