After breakfast start for Lava - Lava is a small hamlet situated 34 kilometres (21 mi) east of the town of Kalimpong via Algarah in Darjeeling district of the state of West Bengal, India. Lava is situated at an altitude of 7,016 feet (2,138 m). It is one of the few places in West Bengal to receive snow in winter. It is the entry point to the Neora Valley National Park from Kalimpong. The route to Lava is scenic with the change in vegetation from tropical deciduous to the wet alpine trees of fir, pine and birch. The verdant forests are a popular spot for picnicking, trekking and bird-watching. Lava has now become a favorite tourist destination for people living on the coast of West Bengal, and tourism has become the source of living for the inhabitants. Wild animals such as the Himalayan Black Bear and barking deer are found in these parts. A Buddhist monastery is present on one of the hills of Lava. Notable sites include Changey Waterfalls and Lava Jamgyong Kongtrul Monastery Delo or Deolo is located at an altitude of 5556 ft on the edge of a reef connecting Delo Hills and Durpin Hills. 12 3 03-Nov Mon 1 - Jhalong & Bindu Hill Safari 2 - Gorumara National Park Jungle Safari (Optional) Teesta. Delo has been converted into a nature park by the Government. Delo Hill is an extended nature park with very well maintained gardens, fountains, views of Mt. Kanchenjungha and River Teesta. There is a huge statue of Lord Hanuman near Delo. You would also find a very nice statue of Lord Buddha on the way while returning from Delo to Kalimpong. Monasteries or Buddhist gumphas form a very important feature of the surrounding and there are three important gumphas Tharpa Choling Monastery, Zong Dog Palri Fo-Brang Monastery and Tongsa Gompa that stands witness to the journey of Buddhism in India. There is also the Lepcha Museum & Monastery situated in nearby Big Dhara which showcases everything about the Lepcha community and culture. - Overnight stay at Gorumara National Park After breakfast go for forest & hill safari to Jhalong & Bindu - The Jaldhaka River is formed by the conjunction of three streams at Bindu, the end point of the Jaldhaka Police Station at Darjeeling district in West Bengal - The three streams are known as Bindu Khola, Dudh Pokhri and Jaldhaka that originates from the Kupup Lake, a small glacial lake in Sikkim. The combined streams meet at Bindu to form the Jaldhaka River, thus forming a riverine boundary with India and Bhutan in the left bank - There is a dam known as Bindu Dam over the Jaldhaka river which is used for controlling water supply to the Jaldhaka Hydel Project at Jhalong and acts as a bridge for crossing over to Bhutan. After coming back from Jhalong & Bindu go for a Thrilling & Adventurous Jungle Safari (Optional) at Gorumara National Park - Gorumara National Park is a National Park in northern West Bengal, India. Located in the Terai region of the Himalayan foothills, it is a medium-sized park with grasslands and forests. It is primarily known for its population of Indian Rhinoceros. The park has been declared as the best among the protected areas in India by the Ministry of Environment and Forests for the year The park is located on the flood plains of the Murti River and Raidak River. The major river of the park is the Jaldhaka river, a tributary of the Brahmaputra river system. In this regard, Gorumara is a significant watershed area between the Ganges and Brahmaputra river systems. The park is very close to Jaldapara National Park and Chapramari Wildlife Reserve. The Park is rich in large herbivores including Indian rhinoceros, gaur, Asian elephant, sloth bear, chital, and Sambar deer. Small herbivores include barking deer, hog deer and wild boar. There is a comparative lack of large carnivores, with the only big cat being the leopard. The park is not home to any resident population of Bengal tigers, Indian wild dogs, or Indian wolf. Tigers are, however, occasionally spotted here. It does have numerous small carnivores including various civets, mongooses and small cats. The park has a large resident population of wild boar, but the critically endangered pygmy hog has been reported from the park. It also has numerous rodents, including giant squirrels. The vast grassland with patches of riverine forests, was declared a sanctuary in 1943 for protection of the great variety of flora and fauna. Principle among them is the Asiatic one horned Rhino. The sanctuary is a mixture of a mosaic of woods, grassland, swamps and streams. The Sanctuary covers an area of sq km. Drained by rivers Torsa, Malangi, Hollong, Chirakhawa, Kalijhora, Sissamara, Bhaluka and Buri Torsa, the Sanctuary provides extensive grassland which is refuge to a wide variety of mammals, amphibians, reptiles and birds. Jeep safari inside the forest is the other option of visiting inside the forest Nov Wed 06-Nov Thu 1 - Buxa Tiger Reserve & Jayanti Village Drop at NJP - NJP to Howrah by Satabdi Exp After Breakfast Visit Buxa & Jayanti - Once famous for dolomite mining, Buxa was declared a tiger reserve in 1983 and got the status of National park in Located in the Assam-Bhutan border, Buxa has an area of 745 sq km, the largest forest in North Bengal and has the second highest tiger population in West Bengal after Sunderbans. The park holds maximum number of elephant, Indian bison, leopard, many species of deer and many smaller mammals, innumerable species of birds and reptiles. Buxa is rich with bio-diversity and has a great collection of rare orchids and medicinal plants. Because of inaccessible terrain, some parts of Buxa hills in the Sinchula range are still unexplored. Jayanti is a small forest village within Buxa Tiger Reserve in Alipurduar district of West Bengal, India. It is located along the Jayanti River, forming a natural border with the Bhutan hills. It is popular with hikers for its beautiful views of the surrounding landscape and wild fountains. The 13 km trek from Buxaduar to Jayanti is especially popular, passing through the dense forest of the Buxa Tiger Reserve. Jayanti also features a stalactite cave known as the Mahakal cave.
