1 HOBE Horseshoe Bend National Military Park Horseshoe Bend Road Daviston, AL Coordinates: a-4:30p On 27 March 1814, Major General Andrew Jackson s army of 3,300 men attacked Chief Menawa s 1,000 Red Stick Creek warriors fortified in a horseshoe shaped bend of the Tallapoosa River. Over 800 Red Sticks died that day. The battle ended the Creek War, resulted in a land cession of 23,000,000 acres to the United States and created a national hero of Andrew Jackson. LIRI Little River Canyon National Preserve 472 AL-35 Fort Payne, AL Coordinates: Limited Hours, Closed July 4 Little River is unique because it flows for most of its length atop Lookout Mountain in northeast Alabama. Forested uplands, waterfalls, canyon rims and bluffs, pools, boulders, and sandstone cliffs offer settings for a variety of recreational activities. Take a picture of the visitor center. RUCA Russell Cave National Monument 3729 County Road 98 Bridgeport, AL Coordinates: Russell Cave is an archaeological site with one of the most complete records of prehistoric cultures in the Southeast. Thousands of years ago a portion of Russell Cave's entrance collapsed, creating a shelter that, for more than 10,000 years, was home to prehistoric peoples. Today it provides clues to daily life of early North American inhabitants dating from 10,000 B.C. to 1650 A.D. Take a picture of the sign at the entrance to Russell Cave NM. Page 1 of 116

2 TUAI Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site 1616 Chappie James Ave. Tuskegee, AL Coordinates: Before the first African American military pilots became known as the "Red Tails" they wore striped tails as they began their flight training in the Army's PT-17 Stearman bi-plane. Their flying adventure started at Moton Field, in Tuskegee, Alabama, where the Army Air Corps began a military "experiment" to see if Negroes could be trained to fly combat aircraft. Take a picture of the sign for the site on the National Park Service pillar. TUIN Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site 1212 West Montgomery Rd. Tuskegee, AL Coordinates: In 1881, Booker T. Washington arrived in Alabama and started building Tuskegee Institute both in reputation and literally brick by brick. He recruited the best and the brightest to teach here including George Washington Carver who arrived in Carver s innovations in agriculture, especially with peanuts, expanded Tuskegee s standing throughout the country. Take a picture of the Park Headquarters building. DENA Denali National Park and Preserve Park Road Denali, AK Coordinates: Denali is six million acres of wild land, bisected by one ribbon of road. Travelers along it see the relatively low-elevation taiga forest give way to high alpine tundra and snowy mountains, culminating in North America's tallest peak, 20,320' Mount McKinley. 3 KEFJ Kenai Fjords National Park Old Exit Glacier Rd. Seward, AK Coordinates: At the edge of the Kenai Peninsula lies a land where the ice age lingers. Nearly 40 glaciers flow from the Harding Icefield, Kenai Fjords' crowning feature. Take a picture of the Exit Glacier Nature Center. KLAK Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park 2nd and Broadway St. Skagway, AK Coordinates: /7 Gold! is what the headlines read in 1897, starting the Klondike Gold Rush. Thousands, hoping to ease the woes of economic depression, sold farms, dropped businesses and boarded ships to follow their dreams north. Today Klondike Gold Rush NHP commemorates the bravery of the stampeders who voyaged north by protecting the trails, historic boomtowns and buildings of the Klondike Gold Rush era. WRST Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve 10 mi S of Glennallen on Alaska Highway 4 Copper Center, AK Coordinates: At 13.2 million acres, Wrangell St. Elias could fit Switzerland and Yellowstone and Yosemite National Parks within its borders! It stretches from one of the tallest peaks in North America, Mount St. Elias (18,008), to the ocean. Within this wild landscape people have been living off the land for centuries and still do today. 4 CACH Canyon de Chelly National Monument Indn Route 64 Chinle, AZ Coordinates: For nearly 5,000 years, people have lived in these canyons - longer than anyone has lived uninterrupted anywhere on the Colorado Plateau. Today, Navajo families make their homes, raise livestock, and farm the lands in the canyon. The National Park Service and Navajo Nation are actively working together to manage park resources. Take a picture of Canyon de Chelly from the Tseyi Overlook. CAGR Casa Grande Ruins National Monument W. Ruins Dr. Coolidge, AZ Coordinates: a-5p An Ancient Sonoran Desert People's farming community and "Great House" are preserved at Casa Grande Ruins. Whether the Casa Grande was a gathering place for the Desert People or simply a waypoint marker in an extensive system of canals and trading partners is but part of the mystique of the Ruins. Willcox, AZ Coordinates: :30a-4:30p winter hours A "Wonderland of Rocks" is waiting for you to explore at Chiricahua National Monument. The 8-mile paved scenic drive and 17-miles of day-use hiking trails provide opportunities to discover the beauty, natural sounds, and inhabitants of this 11,985 acre site. 5 CORO Coronado National Memorial W. Montezuma Canyon Road Hereford, AZ Coordinates: a-4p Coronado National Memorial commemorates the expedition to the southwest by conquistador Francisco Vásquez de Coronado, who was inspired by rumors of vast quantities of gold. The expedition brought rich traditions and new technology into the southwest, irrevocably changing the lives of the native peoples and continuing to influence the area today. Take a photo of the Visitor Center. FOBO Fort Bowie National Historic Site 3327 S. Old Fort Bowie Road Bowie, AZ Coordinates: Sunrise to sunset Fort Bowie commemorates the bitter conflict between Chiricahua Apaches and the U.S. military which paved the way for settlement and the taming of the western frontier. It provides insight into a "clash of cultures," a young nation in pursuit of "manifest destiny," and the hunter/gatherer society fighting to preserve its existence. Take a picture of the ruins. GLCA Glen Canyon National Recreation Area US 89 at Glen Canyon Dam Page, AZ Coordinates: Encompassing over 1.2 million acres, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area offers opportunities for water-based & backcountry recreation. The recreation area stretches for hundreds of miles from Lees Ferry in Arizona to the Orange Cliffs of southern Utah, encompassing scenic vistas, geologic wonders, and a vast panorama of human history. 6 GRCA Grand Canyon National Park South Entrance Rd. Grand Canyon, AZ Coordinates: A powerful and inspiring landscape, Grand Canyon overwhelms our senses through its immense size. Unique combinations of geologic color and erosional forms decorate a canyon that is 277 river miles (446km) long, up to 18 miles (29km) wide, and a mile (1.6km) deep. MOCA Montezuma Castle National Monument Camp Verde, AZ Coordinates: a-5p One of the best preserved cliff dwellings in North America, this 20 room high-rise apartment, nestled into a towering limestone cliff, tells a story of ingenuity, survival and ultimately, prosperity in an unforgiving desert landscape by the Sinagua indians. 7 NAVA Navajo National Monument Northern end of AZ-564 Shonto, AZ Coordinates: a-5:30p Prehistoric Puebloan Ancestors built Tsegi Phase villages within the natural sandstone alcoves of the canyons and paved the way for current Native American groups in the Southwest region. These villages, which date from AD 1250 to 1300, have original architectural elements such as roof beams, masonry walls, rock art, and hand and foot holds. Take a photo of the Visitor Center sign. ORPI Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument AZ-85 and Puerto Bianco Dr Ajo, AZ Coordinates: Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument is the site of cultural resources that reflect long, widespread and diverse occupations by American Indian, Mexican, and European groups. The intersection of these three cultures is significant archaeologically, geographically, and internationally. Take a photo of the Visitor Center. PEFO Petrified Forest National Park I-40 Exit 311 Chambers, AZ Coordinates: June 29, 2:30 pm Petrified Forest National Park contains the fossilized remains of a forest from the Triassic Period (over 200 million years ago). It is a unique and spectacular landscape. Have your Rider Number recorded by IBR staff not later than 2:30 pm at the roadside parking area at the specified coordinates. Fredonia, AZ Coordinates: a-5p American Indians, Mormon pioneers, plants, and animals have depended on the life-giving water found at Pipe Spring. Visitors can learn about pioneer and Kaibab Paiute life by exploring the museum, historic fort and cabins, garden, orchard, and Ridge Trail. Take a photo of Winsor Castle behind the Visitor Center. SAGU Saguaro National Park 3693 S. Old Spanish Trail Tucson, AZ Coordinates: Tucson, Arizona is home to the nation's largest cacti. The giant saguaro is the universal symbol of the American west. Take a photo of the Visitor Center. TUMA Tumacácori National Historical Park 1891 I-19 Frontage Rd. Tumacácori -Carmen, AZ Coordinates: More than just adobe, plaster, and wood, these ruins evoke tales of life and land transformed by cultures meeting and mixing. Father Kino s 1691 landmark visit to an O odham village when he established Mission Tumacácori was just one event among many. Take a photo of the sign for Tumacácori National Historical Park. TUZI Tuzigoot National Monument 25 Tuzigoot Rd. Clarkdale, AZ Coordinates: a-5p Crowning a desert hilltop is an ancient pueblo. The pueblo shows us this ancient village built by the Sinagua people. Flagstaff, AZ Coordinates: a-5p Among the remarkable geological cliff formations of the canyon itself, the shapes of the former homes of ancient inhabitants of Walnut Canyon are easily evident. Take a photo of the Visitor Center. WUPA Wupatki National Monument N. Wupatki Loop Road Flagstaff AZ Coordinates: a-5p Wupatki is one of the warmest and driest places on the Colorado Plateau, with little obvious food or water, but people once lived here and others visited from far and wide. Gillett, AR Coordinates: Grounds open 8a-sunset Located at the confluence of two rivers, Arkansas Post has served as a gathering place for many cultures throughout human history - it represents cultural cooperation, conflict, synthesis, and diversity. 11 BUFF Buffalo National River 170 Ranger Road St. Joe, AR Coordinates: :30a-4:30p Established in 1972, Buffalo National River flows freely for 135 miles and is one of the few remaining undammed rivers in the lower 48 states. Visitors can experience running rapids to quiet pools while surrounded by massive bluffs while travelling through the Ozark Mountains down to the White River. FOSM Fort Smith National Historic Site 301 Parker Avenue Fort Smith, AR Coordinates: From the establishment of the first Fort Smith on December 25, 1817, this site preserves almost 80 years of history on the edge of Indian Territory. HOSP Hot Springs National Park 369 Central Avenue Hot Springs, AR Coordinates: Rich and poor alike came for the baths, and a thriving city built up around the hot springs. 12 LIRO Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site 2120 West Daisy L Gatson Bates Drive Little Rock, AR Coordinates: Little Rock Central High School is recognized for the role it played in the desegregation of public schools in the United States. The nine African-American students' persistence in attending the formerly all-white Central High School was the most prominent national example of the implementation of the May 17, 1954 Supreme Court decision Brown v. Board of Education. Take a picture of the memorial across the street from the school. PERI Pea Ridge National Military Park E AR-62 Garfield, AR Coordinates: On March 7-8, 1862, 26,000 soldiers fought here to decide the fate of Missouri and the West. The 4,300 acre battlefield honors those who fought in one of the most pivotal Civil War battles. It is the most intact Civil War battlefield in the United States. Take a photo of the Visitor Center. WJCB President William Jefferson Clinton Birthplace Home National Historic Site 117 South Hervey Street Hope, AR Coordinates: On August 19, 1946, Virginia Blythe gave birth to her son, William Jefferson Blythe, III. 13 CABR Cabrillo National Monument South end of CA-209 San Diego, CA Coordinates: a-4:30p Climbing out of his boat and onto shore in 1542, Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo stepped into history as the first European to set foot on what is now the West Coast of the United States. Visitors to the Monument can learn much about 16th century exploration. Take a picture of the statue near the visitor center. CESA César E. Chávez National Monument Woodford Tehachapi Rd. Keene, CA Coordinates: a-4p This is a monument to Cesar Chavez, the most important Latino leader in the United States during the twentieth century. Chavez led farm workers and supporters in the establishment of the country's first permanent agricultural union. Take a picture of the Chavez grave. DEVA Death Valley National Park CA-190 Death Valley, CA Coordinates: In this below-sea-level basin, steady drought and record summer heat make Death Valley a land of extremes. Towering peaks are frosted with winter snow. Rare rainstorms bring vast fields of wildflowers. Lush oases harbor tiny fish and refuge for wildlife and humans. 14 FOPO Fort Point National Historic Site End of Marine Drive San Francisco, CA Coordinates: Fr-Mo, 10a-5p From its vantage point overlooking the spectacular Golden Gate, Fort Point protected San Francisco harbor from Confederate and foreign attack during and after the U.S. Civil War. Its beautifully arched casemates display the art of the master brick mason from the Civil War period. Take a picture of the Fort with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. GOGA Golden Gate National Recreation Area 3301 Lyon St San Francisco, CA Coordinates: Golden Gate National Recreation Area chronicles two hundred years of history, from the Native American culture, the Spanish Empire frontier, the California Gold Rush, the evolution of American coastal fortifications, and the growth of urban San Francisco. The recreational opportunities provided include bicycling and hiking. Take a picture of the Palace of Fine Arts at the Presidio in San Francisco. JOMU John Muir National Historic Site 4202 Alhambra Ave. Martinez, CA Coordinates: As America s most famous naturalist and conservationist, John Muir fought to protect the wild places he loved, places we can still visit today. KIMA Kings Canyon National Park Turn W off of Hwy 180 just North of Grant Grove Village Kings Canyon NP, CA Coordinates: Home to the world's largest trees, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks sit side-by-side in the southern Sierra Nevada, east of the San Joaquin Valley. LABE Lava Beds National Monument Road 10 Tulelake, CA Coordinates: a-6p Over the last half-million years, volcanic eruptions on the Medicine Lake shield volcano have created a rugged landscape dotted with diverse volcanic features. Take a picture of the visitor center. MANZ Manzanar National Historic Site Manzanar Reward Rd. Manzanar NHS, CA Coordinates: In 1942, the United States government ordered more than 110,000 men, women, and children to leave their homes and detained them in remote, military-style camps. Manzanar War Relocation Center was one of ten camps where Japanese American citizens and resident Japanese aliens were interned during World War II. MOJA Mojave National Preserve Kelso Cima Road Kelso, CA Coordinates: Sand dunes, volcanic cinder cones, Joshua tree forests, and carpets of wildflowers are all found at the 1.6 million acre Mojave National Preserve. PINN Pinnacles National Park 5000 CA-146 Paicines, CA Coordinates: :30a-5p, Friday open until 8p Rising out of the chaparral-covered Gabilan Mountains, east of central California's Salinas Valley, Pinnacles National Park is the spectacular remains of an ancient volcanic field. But the parks also protect vast prairies, oak woodlands, wild riverways, and nearly 40 miles of pristine coastline, all supporting a rich mosaic of wildlife diversity and cultural traditions. ROSE Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park Marina Park, near the intersection of Regatta Blvd. and Melville Square Richmond, CA Coordinates: The Rosie the Riveter Memorial honors the efforts and sacrifices of American civilians on the World War II home front. SAFR San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park 499 Jefferson Street San Francisco, CA Coordinates: Located in the Fisherman's Wharf neighborhood, San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park offers the sights, sounds, smells and stories of Pacific Coast maritime history. SEKI Sequoia National Park Generals Hwy Three Rivers, CA Coordinates: Home to the world's largest trees, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks lie side-by-side in the southern Sierra Nevada, east of the San Joaquin Valley. 20 YOSE Yosemite National Park 9035 Village Drive Yosemite National Park, CA Coordinates: First protected in 1864, Yosemite National Park is best known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 1,200 square miles, you can find deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and much more. BEOL Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site CO-194 East La Junta, CO Coordinates: a-5:30p Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site features a reconstructed 1840s adobe fur trading post on the mountain branch of the Santa Fe Trail where traders, trappers, travelers, and the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes came together in peaceful terms for trade. Towering monoliths exist within a vast plateau and canyon panorama. You can experience sheer-walled, red rock canyons along the twists and turns of Rim Rock Drive, where you may spy bighorn sheep and soaring eagles. CURE Curecanti National Recreation Area US-50 at Mile Marker 142 Gunnison, CO Coordinates: Curecanti National Recreation Area is a series of three reservoirs along the once wild Gunnison River. The reservoirs that make up Curecanti today are a destination for water-based recreation high in the Rocky Mountains. Best known for salmon and trout fishing, Curecanti also offers opportunities for hiking, boating, camping, and bird watching. DINO Dinosaur National Monument US-40 Dinosaur, CO Coordinates: The fossilized remains of dinosaurs that lived here more than 65 million years ago are still visible embedded in the rocks. 22 FLFO Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument Teller County Road 1 Florissant, CO Coordinates: a-6p Beneath a grassy mountain valley in central Colorado lies one of the richest and most diverse fossil deposits in the world. Petrified redwood stumps up to 14 feet wide and thousands of detailed fossils of insects and plants reveal the story of a very different, prehistoric Colorado.
