1 CONTRIBUTION TO THE STUDY OF THE SPIDERS (ARANEAE) IN SLAVYANKA MOUNTAIN (SW BULGARIA) M. Naumova Institute of Zoology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, 1 Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd, 1000 Sofia, Bulgaria Correspondence to: Maria Naumova munny@abv.bg ABSTRACT A total of 127 species from 28 families have been established in 10 localities from Slavyanka Mountain (South-West Bulgariа). Two species (Cheiracanthium rupestre Herman, 1879 and Haplodrassus bohemicus Miller & Buchar, 1977) are new to Bulgarian fauna. 94 species are new for Slavyanka Mt. Keywords: Bulgaria, faunistic, Slavyanka Mountain, spiders Introduction Тhe spiders of Slavyanka Mountain are not well studied in faunistic respect. Data of the spiders in the mountain could be found only in the works of Drensky (4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12) and Deltshev (2, 3). They reported 33 species. Materials and methods Slavyanka Mountain is situated in South-West Bulgaria, south of Pirin Mountain. The highest point of the mountain is Gotsev vrah peak (2212 m a.s.l.) located on the central part of the mountain. The examined materials come from 10 localities from different parts of Slavyanka Mountain. The list of the collected sites (and related data) is given in Table 1. The spiders have been collected mainly by hand, under stones, by sweeping and sewing. The taxonomic arrangements follow Platnick (14). The material is deposited in the Institute of Zoology (Sofia). 2 Results and Discussion Bulgarian fauna, show that the list is not final. In faunistic respect interesting are the species: The study comprises 127 species from 28 families: Atypidae Cheiracanthium rupestre Herman, 1879 Hitherto known 1, Nemesiidae 2, Scytodidae 1, Pholcidae 3, from Slovenia and Macedonia. The finding on this species in Segestriidae 1, Dysderidae 2, Oonopidae 1, Eresidae Slavyanka Mt. widen its range to Southeastern destination. 1, Oecobiidae 1, Uloboridae 1, Theridiidae 12, Haplodrassus bohemicus Miller & Buchar, Hitherto Linyphiidae 11, Tetragnathidae 3, Araneidae 15, known from Czech Repuplic and Macedonia. The new data Lycosidae 23, Pisauridae 1, Oxyopidae 1, Zoropsidae show that the species has Middle South-East European 1, Zoriidae 2, Agelenidae 4, Amaurobiidae 2, distribution. Miturgidae 2, Zodariidae 3, Gnaphosidae 13, Sparassidae 2, Philodromidae 2, Thomisidae 7, Salticidae 9 (Table 2). Two species are new for the Bulgarian spider fauna (marked in the list with **) and 94 species are new for the spider fauna of the Slavyanka Mountain (marked in the list with *). The number of the species is low and represents about 13% of the Bulgarian spiders (1). It should be emphasized, that the new reported 94 species, two from which are new to the Brachythele denieri (Simon, 1916) Rare species, hitherto known from single localities of Greece and Bulgaria, mainly in Struma Valley. Harpactea srednagora Dimitrov & Lazarov, 1999 Bulgarian endemic, hitherto known from Sredna Gora Mt, Vitosha Mt and West Rhodopi Mt (13). Zodarion pirini Drensky, Bulgarian endemic, a mountain element (above 1200 m altitude).
