5 Aomori, Japan Aomori, located in the far north of Japan, is one of the country's most beautiful prefectures and is among Japan's most pleasant towns to visit or live. There are a handful of attractions scattered around the city including a pleasant harbourfront area near the port. Shinmachidōri, the main drag, rolls east from the port and has a refreshingly sleepy inaka (country) vibe.
