We started our journey at the MGM Grand Detroit hotel, an award-winning hotel nestled in the heart of Detroit. Visit to plan your getaway. The MGM Grand Detroit is a destination in itself. You really do not need to leave the hotel because it seems like all you every need can be found there. It is like a small city and there are over 3000 employees, all of whom seem focused on making your stay the best it can be. The casino was busy all day and night and people really seemed to be having a great time. The buzz of positive energy filled the atmosphere. In addition to the many celebrity signature restaurants were establishments with plenty of entertainment. Even the room was so comfortable that we really did not want to leave it. It seemed that the hotel went to every effort to offer the highest quality in furniture and amenities. 74 Canadian Destinations

6 We managed to venture out into the city and spent hours combing the streets and visiting the featured attractions. With superb acoustics and an orchestra pit large enough to accommodate 100 musicians, the restored 1922 Detroit Opera House is the home of Michigan Opera Theatre, which produces grand opera and presents a dance season. The Casa de Unidad Cultural Arts Center is an Hispanic/Latino cultural and arts education center located in southwest Detroit that offers art exhibits, films, dance classes, and workshops. The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History is another great draw. It is the world s largest museum dedicated to the African American experience and showcases the culture of African Americans as well as their African roots. This museum is located in the heart of the Midtown Detroit Cultural Center, and close to many other attractions. That evening we finished our day dining at the much anticipated Rattlesnake Club restaurant. The Motown Historical Museum was a great place to visit. It was founded in 1985 by Esther Gordy Edwards to preserve the legacy of the Motown Records Corporation. The museum has exhibits meant to inspire youth to explore their creativity. Most Americans are very familiar with Motown Records and their artists-this museum is a Mecca of sorts for fans of the popular music genre. The Henry Ford Museum, housed in a replica of Philadelphia s Independence Hall, offered major collections in transportation, machinery, agriculture, lighting, and communications of near-smithsonian quality. Our last stop was the Detroit Historical Museum founded in For 20 years the Society operated the Museum and preserved the region s rich history through the collection and conservation of artifacts. In 1945, the Society transferred ownership of the Museum and the collections to the City of Detroit, and the Society focused on fundraising and marketing activities for the Detroit Historical Museum and, later, the Dossin Great Lakes Museum. As you could imagine after a long journey around Detroit, we were desperate for little rest and relaxation. We found this at the Motor City Casino Spa and it turned out to be the ultimate indulgence for our tired bodies.
