The company has set up a Sales Office in the United Kingdom and at the same time Branch Offices in Sofia, Varna and Bourgas cities. By expanding in this way, we are in a better position to give a more efficient service to our customers and to the tourists visiting these destinations. 6 S O F I A & a r e a Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria, with a 7000-year-old history, the country s leading industrial centre, the country s political and cultural elite, housing one eighth of the population. Several buildings and most of the sites of particular interest are found in the central area within easy walking distance of each other: the Church of St Nedelya, the Banya Bashi Mosque near Sofia s mineral baths and others. Bankya is a well-known health resort. It is situated in the green foothills of the Lyulin Mountain at an altitude of m., 17 km away from the Bulgarian capital Sofia. Rila is the highest mountain in Bulgaria and on the whole Balkan peninsula with mount Moussala -2925m. The circus of Seven Rila lakes is the most beautiful one in Bulgaria. It is situated in the northwestern part of the marvelous Rila mountain. The lakes are located in tiers. To the central part of the circus picturesque landscapes of green meadows with fragrant flowers and forests of dwarf pines and juniper can be seen and higher great steep rocks surround the lakes. Vitosha is the most visited Bulgarian Mountain. It rises immediately above Sofia and is one of the symbols of our capital. Few are the big cities in the world, and capitals are even fewer, that possess such a natural advantage. Vitosha Mountain is the most significant part of the Plana-Zavala Mountain system. With its highest peak - Cherni Vrah (2290 m.) it occupies the fourth place among the Bulgarian moun- tains. Vitosha is the cradle of hiking tourism in Bulgaria. The date 27 August 1895 is considered to be the beginning of the organized tourist movement in the country. The Boyana church is situated at the foot of Vitosha mountain. In 11 th century here was a fortification, which played a main role in the wars with Byzantium. The Boyana church is the most remarkable monument of the Bulgarian medieval painting art. At the same time it is one of the best preserved and interesting architectural monuments from the epoch of the feudalism. 8 9

7 V A R N A & a r e a GOLDEN SANDS The ALBENA seaside resort with The city of VARNA is the third largest city in Bulgaria with its population of people. It is widely called the seaside capital of Bulgaria as it is the biggest city at the Bulgarian coast. Varna lies on the same latitude of the famous Atlantic resorts Bayonne and Biarritz in France, on a large, flat and high terrace on the northwestern most curve of the bay which juts some 7 km inland. During the holiday season, July and August, the sunshine allows hours of sunbathing. There is nothing of the cold Baltic wind or the summer Riviera heat. The Golden Sands resort is located 17 km from the city of Varna, in the north part of the Bulgarian Black Sea Riviera. It is set on wellwooded terraces, the last foothills of the Balkan range reaching down to the sea. Its four kilometre beach slopes gently into water which has no dangerous currents. The rare combination of fine golden sands, fresh air, crystal clear sea and mineral water, medicinal herbs, various natural products and perfectly organ- its 5 km long beach lies in a picturesque bay only 32 km away from Varna. Its offers the same wide range of sporting facilities as Golden Sands, and there is a good selection of restaurants, folk taverns and other evening entertainments. ST CONSTANTINE AND ELENA Formerly known as Drouzhba, is the oldest resort. It too is well-wooded, but has small beaches and coves giving it a cosier atmosphere. Its tranquillity appeals to sedater visitors and participants in the many international conferences held here. The resort s Grand Hotel Varna is one of the finest hotels in Bulgaria, with a large range of facilities including a complete balneological complex, a casino, a nightclub and bars, two swimming pools, tennis courts and a bowling alley. There is a wealth of sporting and other facilities available, all very moderately priced. Water-skiing, wind-surfing, paraskung, snorkelling, tennis, volleyball, mini- ized Medical and Spa Centre make Albena a perfect location for family holiday and a most preferred tourist resort area both locally and in Europe. The health resort is 18 km north-east of BOURGAS is the fourth largest city in Bulgaria, situated in the south-eastern part of the country. The climate here is temperately continental with a distinct impact from the Black Sea. The town is an industrial centre too. It s notfamous as a beach resort (although few beaches you can find), but more as a turning point to the big southern Black Sea resorts in Bulgaria like Sunny Beach, Nessebar, Sozopol, Dyuni, Elenite, etc. The Airport of Bourgas is the one where the international flights land in the summer. SUNNY BEACH is situated in the southern part of the Bulgarian Black Sea Riviera, 35 km away north of the city of Bourgas and 40 minutes away from the airport of Sarafovo. Stretching along a beautiful semicircular bay facing east. Closed to the north by the descending ridges of the Balkan Range, thus blending sea and mountain in perfect harmony. Lying to the south is the small peninsula on which the ancient town of Nessebur is located - an architectural and historic monument of Bulgarian and world culture. Emine cape is the most eastern point of Bulgaria. It is situated at a distance of 79 km. south of Varna, at 54 km. north of Bourgas and at 14 km. south of Obzor. It is the Bulgaria s stormiest cape. Emine cape occupies a territory of 0.5 ha. It is considered to be the end of the Balkan Mountains. The picturesque town of Nessebar (population 9437 inhabitants), one of the oldest European towns is situated on a small peninsula, 37 km north-east of Bourgas and 429 km east of Sofia. The beach is considered to be the best along the Black Sea coast. Today Nessebar is one of the resorts most preferred by tourists. The old town of Nessebar is under the protection of UNESCO. The old building were restored and new houses in ancient style were buil. The Bourgas Humid Zones are the main stopover for dozens of bird species, along one of the major world routes of bird migration- Via Pontica. The zones include the lakes, Pomoriysko, Atanasovsko, Bourgasko, Mandrensko and the Poda locality. Besides considerable natural resources- curative mud, lye and salt- the zones are refuge to 40 species of fish, 15 species of amphibians, 35 species of mammals and hundreds of species of invertebrates

9 M O U N T A I N & a r e a Winter tourism The mountain relief and climate of Bulgaria are perfect for winter sports. Modern centers for winter sports are situated mainly in the mountains Rila, Pirin and the Rhodopes. The resort offer modern hotels, restaurants, discotheques, night clubs and of course modern skiing facilities and equipment. Apart from the major mountain resorts like Bansko, Pamporovo, and Borovets there are many smaller places with proper winter sports conditions. These places are much different and calmer. They posses their own atmosphere with unique wild nature sites. Bansko Old meets new in the up and coming Bulgarian resort of Bansko, where modern hotels rise above little fortified houses. The town centre is a listed World Heritage Site, and it is easy to see why with its quaint cobbled streets, where you can still hear the local Bansko dialect being used, and old clock tower, where the bell has been measuring the hours for over 150 years. Skiers of all abilities are well catered for as Bansko has over 65 kilometres of marked ski runs, which are easily accessed by the newly installed and impressive Gondola lift. As the day draws to a close, Après-ski is centred around the local Mehanas, friendly taverna type restaurants serving traditional Bulgarian cuisine and drinks, often with roaring log fires and live entertainment. For a truly enjoyable winter sports holiday, enhanced by warm Bulgarian hospitality, visit Bansko where you really can have the best of both worlds. Perfect Skiing and Snowboarding In less than 20 minutes a fast Gondola cable lift will take you to the ski centre, which is situated about 12 kilometres away from town. On your way back at the end of the day it is up to you to decide whether to return by the Gondola or ski down the ski road, which marks Bansko as one of the few resorts in the world to offer this option. The ski center has over 65 kilometres of marked ski runs and cross country tracks that have been extensively cultivated. More than 50% of the slopes are covered by snow cannons and all runs are groomed by more than 12 Kassbohrer slope maintenance vehicles to guarantee maximum safety and pleasure from the great selection of nursery, intermediate, and advanced pistes. The ski runs are serviced by a number of chair lifts and drag lifts, all of which are cutting edge Doppelmayer ski lifts, including the 8-man Gondola and the four-chair lift with bubble shields to protect you from harsh weather conditions. Intermediate Plenty of blue and red runs, suitable to intermediate skiers, make the resort a very good choice both for those committed to becoming experts, as well as for those who take up winter sports merely as a recreational activity. Most runs are accessible by chair lifts and there are a number of dining establishments by the slopes for skiers and snowboarders to recharge or unwind. Hands-free access to lifts and the rare occurrence of queues designate Bansko as a smart choice for intermediate skiers and snowboarders. Advanced and Off-piste While some red runs and the Alberto Tomba black run should keep most experts busy, Bansko is probably more popular with experts for its great offerings of extreme and off-piste skiing. The night skiing event allows skiers and snowboarders to relax after a hard day on the runs in one of the dining establishments in the Banderitsa area and then, after sunset, ski down the unique 7 km lighted ski run to town in the company of experienced ski and snowboard teachers. Night skiing, which is open to everyone on Saturday evening, can also be booked on weekdays through your holiday representative on the spot. Après-ski Among other Bulgarian mountain resorts, Bansko offers what is probably the best après-ski, because it is a unique combination of a modern mountain resort and a living rustic town with a population of about 10,000 people. Almost a hundred mehana dining places offer peculiar local cuisine dishes, such as kapama or Banski starets in the atmosphere of traditional songs and dances, performed by local artists. In some of the smaller mehana your waiter may very well be the proprietor of the place. Besides the famous local church, St. Trinity, there are many historical, architectural, and cultural monuments in Bansko, including the houses of many famous Bulgarians from the period of the Bulgarian Revival. Both winter and summer, Bansko hosts a number of festivals, including the Bansko Jazz Fest and the Festival of Local Traditions.
