10 VISA ARRANGEMENTS 28-day tourist visas may be obtained at Myanmar embassies worldwide. Please contact your local Myanmar Embassy for the latest information. Recommended is the Online visa application now possible for tourists. For more information and to apply online, visit evisa.moip.gov.mm CURRENCY Local currency is MMK (kyat), as of August the exchange rate is 1 USD = 1520 MMK Visa and Mastercard can both be used for ATM and payments. It is recommended to bring USD in cash as well in order to change to local currencies for use in taxi and merchants who does not accept card. Unionpay, american express etc cannot be used, COMMUNICATION At arrival there are sim cards to buy from four different operators. They all work well and offer 4G data connection. Just make sure to top up with MMK 10,000 or 5,000 and you will be good for a few days. HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS Visit your health professional to check whether you need any vaccinations or other preventive measures. Cash payment is often required prior to receiving medical treatment. Make sure you have adequate travel health insurance and accessible funds to cover the cost of any medical treatment abroad and/or repatriation. Cases of cholera have been reported in some areas of Burma. Poor sanitation and eating contaminated food can increase the risk of diarrhoeal illnesses. Drink or use only boiled or bottled water and avoid ice in drinks. Dengue fever is present in Burma, including in the regions of Yangon and Mandalay. You should take appropriate precautions to avoid being bitten by mosquitos.
