Built in 1880 to shelter the first mountaineers and travellers visiting the Mer de Glace, it features a plain granite façade broken up by lots of small windows. In the evening, after the last train and its passengers have departed, the site reveals itself and accompanied by the end-of-day colours is engulfed in a surprising sense of peace and calm. Visit the Mer de Glace; for the more adventurous, go hot-air ballooning or paragliding; for the more contemplative, fly over Mont Blanc in a plane or helicopter; practice yoga facing the Mer de Glace. When the magic of winter arrives, treat yourself to a ski touring outing, trekking on the glacier or the unmissable Vallée Blanche ski run starting from the Aiguille du Midi.
