5 Excursions Green Coast: Beach, History & Typical Food Eur 39,00/Adult - Eur 28,00/Chd (2-11 years) Welcomed by the guide, we will start our trip by crossing reclaimed areas. Once these wetlands were the testimonial of the big Campidano s Rift. Along the way, we will see seaside landscapes with lots of birds and lake plants. Heading towards south, we will reach a typical fishermen s town: Marceddì. It is an enchanted place, well known for its small colourful houses, used as storage for nets and boats called Cius (typical boats with a flat bottom). Marceddì is also famous for the quality of its fish production: shellfish and mullet, used for the famous Bottarga: Sardinian gold. After we will pass over the ancient one-lane bridge, and reach the Costa Verde (Green Coast). It is an uncontaminated and unique place, lashed by the mistral, which bend trees. Arrived at the sixteenth Spanish Tower of Flumentorgiu, to dominate 40 km of the Green Coast, we will enjoy a swim in the crystal Mare di Sardegna or a walk in the famous sand dunes of Pistis Beach. We continue towards south, on the west side of Monte Arcuentu, and we will reach Genna Serapis Path, in the nineteenth century village of Montevecchio Mine (abandoned for several years, but important for the Parco Geominerario Storico e Ambientale della Sardegna and the European Geoparks. These forests are populated by the Sardinian Deer. From the workers humble houses, to the luxurious palaces we may opt to follow the guide for a visit of Montevecchio Mine. In the afternoon before ending our tour and going back to the Hotel, going through the countryside and villages of S. Nicolò d Arcidano and Terralba, there will be a pleasant gastronomic surprise. Cagliari Panoramic Eur 29,00 - Eur 21,00 /Chd (2-11 years) We start our tour by passing through rice paddies and farms of Venetian charm, which were once ancient malarial and marshy areas. This area was reclaimed and today turned into green fields; then we will pass through the Campidano plain, which once was a great Rift of the Campidano period. Surrounded by almost unknown extinct volcanoes, which appear along the roadsides, we reach Cagliari the capital and main port of Sardinia. Cagliari s first inhabitants date back to prehistoric times - an ancient city with a long history, Cagliari has seen the rule of several civilisations. From the metropolitan area we pass next to the harbour and from here we will reach the upper town where there is the historic district and heart of Cagliari. During a pleasant stroll, we will observe the ancient ruins of the Roman amphitheatre and the Castello district with the Citadel, the Cathedral renowned for its neo-romanesque façade and baroque interior, the towers, magnificent ramparts and terraces which gaze at the Gulf of Cagliari. In the Castello area one finds a maze of narrow streets, small craft shops, which have preserved ancient architecture. We will have free time for shopping during the opening hours.at the end of the morning, we will continue with the bus towards the White Basilica of Our Lady of Bonaria and then stop at the panoramic view from the top of Monte Urpinu where we will take photos of the Gulf of Angels, Sella del Diavolo and Poeto Beach. On the way back, we will have the possibilty to ask our guide about funny Sardinian words, cooking recipes and typical products, legends and Sardinian behaviour. Oristano & Sinis Eur 39,00/Adult - Eur 28,00/Chd (2-11 years) Driving towards Santa Giusta and Oristano, we will pass Cabras and reach the ancient fishing village San Salvatore, frequently used as a film set for famous western movies. Here we will visit the rural church of San Salvatore which dates back to the eighteenth century which also leads to the most important hypogeum which has two rooms that date back to 2700 years BC. Among vineyards and artichoke crops, we will cross the rolling hills of Mont e Prama and we will arrive in Is Arutas, with typical constructions of Falasco (Cladium Falascus) and renowned for crystal waters and its white rice-shaped quartz sand. We will have a short break for swimming and sunbathing before proceeding to another beautiful and famous beach: S. Giovanni di Sinis. Here we will have a second break, where we will visit the ancient Basilica. Alternatively you may wish to spend this long break by visiting Tharros Archaeological Ruins and the panoramic view of Sinis Peninsula on a steam train (ticket not included). We leave early afternoon, with a brief stop at Peschiera Mar e Pontis and the sixteenth Tour of Torregrande, and drive back and complete the tour with a panoramic City Tour of Oristano. Before we drive back to the Hotel we go for a short walk through the ancient city centre of the Queen Eleonora d Arborea. We will have time for a shopping break. TREKKING Monte Arci Trekking Eur 34,00/Adult Eur 24,00/Chd (2-11 years) Our coach will drive us along old plains, now fully reclaimed, cultivated land used by farmers. we will arrive at the foot of Monte Arci, ancient volcano of Sardinia, now extinct, famous since the Neolithic period as one of the top three places in the Mediterranean where the obsidian was mined, the precious glassy rock used by Phoenician civilization to make jewellery gifts, but especially arrow heads and a large number of cutting tools. The trekking is challenging, with stony and bumpy sections, alternating with hard and drained parts. We will have some photographic breaks and a stop for an optional snack on wooden tables surrounded by the woods. The duration is about 3 hours of walking, a mix of hills and slopes, along a loop trail, which allows an extremely wide viewing area, joining several ancient paths. On the paths there are still obsidian and coal, fallen by ancient merchants saddlebags. In fact, the area has been important for hunting and forest cultivation to produce wood and charcoal, at least until the middle of 900. We come across the remains of many charcoal pits, used above all by Sardinian-Piedmont. Then we will walk among the forests of oak, strawberry tree, heather, etc. We will admire breathtaking views showing the underlying plains to the sea, from Monte Arcuentu and Capo Frasca to Oristano, Sinis Peninsula and Montiferru. Trekking Monte Arcuentu Eur 34,00/Adult Eur 24,00/chd (2-11 years) Among forests of pine and oak woods, with many typical Mediterranean species, we will walk along the ancient paths used during the nineteenth century.you will discover the history and mining archeology that made this area famous. We depart by bus from the hotel, and head south reaching the volcanic mass of Arcuentu. Since Roman times the minerals were mined for the production of metals: lead, zinc, silver. From the town of Genna Serapis, ( genna in the Sardinian language) has always been dedicated to the god Serapis (greek-egyptian god), we continue our trekking, on the lava flows of the ancient volcano. The area is known as Montevecchio Mine, awarded by the European Union in 2011 as a Tourist Destination of Excellence, it is one of the most important jewels of the Historical and Environmental Geo-mining Park of Sardinia, proclaimed a UNECO World Cultural Heritage Site. The miners present at the massacre of Buggerru ( ) and the subsequent 1st National General Strike of Italian and European history worked over here. The trekking is fairly simple, mostly in the shade of the woods, with stony and bumpy sections, alternating with compact and well-drained stretches. We will stop for some photographic shots especially in areas with beautiful views and where we will meet the imposing and best preserved mining buildings erected in the mid-nineteenth century. We will also stop for an optional snack, probably in the picnic area in the woods. The distance is estimated at about 2 hours of walking, with a prolonged descent and another climb, along a loop trail, which allows an extremely wide viewing area and combines two old paths used by the miners. Then we will walk through woods formed by pines, oaks, strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo), heather, etc. Flamingos &Beach Walking Eur 10,00/Adults - Eur 7,00/Chd (2-11 years) We start the trekking in the early afternoon led by our guide. We will walk through Pine Forests typical of the Region, to the Basin of S Ena Arrubia. The name of the basin translated means the red Vein. Here you will admire Rosa (Pink) Flamingos and other birds such as the ancient Black-Winged Stilt and Herons. Before proceeding to the Hotel, we will walk along the beach and we will stop at S Ena Arrubia fishery to see the ancient fishing activity. Alghero Eur 45,00/Adult - Eur 32/Chd (2-11 years) Explore one of Sardinia s most beautiful medieval cities on a tour of Alghero, the island s main resort town in the northwest. Discover its unique character and proud, independent spirit. Alghero is a pleasant fortified old town with quaint streets filled with shops, cafes and restaurants. It is a land of hidden treasures. Also known as the little Barceloneta of Sardinia. Alghero is a charming old town, surrounded by seven great towers and old walls. We will enjoy walks on the cobbled streets and alleys of this old town where activities are held until late at night. The multi occupation of this town has left an impact till today where one finds a rich variety of monuments and buildings, amongst which is the Alghero Cathedral. A trenino ride (optional) will take us around the town of Alghero. Free time for optional lunch in one of the many typical Sardinian restaurants. (Neptune s Grotto - Optional & Weather Permitting) These caves are reached by boat. They are composed by different rooms, each one adorned by beautiful stalactites and stalagmites reaching 20 metres in height. The route winds along a beautiful salt lake with clear waters and rooms very rich in concretions, with a total length of 200 metres. Typical lunch with the shepherds - Supramonte - Orgosolo A lunch with the shepherds that make you discover the most genuine flavours of this ancient land. In the mountain sheepfold, the shepherds cook the lunch open air, under the shade of the holm-oaks and age old junipers, among the natural environment and the flavours and perfumes typical of our menu, based on salami, cheese, boiled sheep with patat a perras and roasted pork, typical bread, and everything becomes tasty twice if accompanied by the full-bodied local wine, the cannonau of strong colour and taste. If you wish to taste a genuine and simple digestive liqueur, the local brandy, of alcoholic content above 50, the ideal drink to end at best a rich meal.
